Did Indy Always have a Gun in his holster?

Post by Canada Jones »

Except for the scenes where his holster was supposed to be empty (like when he went to shoot the thugees in Temple and the gun was missing), did they put a gun in the holster? If so, would this have been the firing gun or some kind of fake prop one? I assume they wanted a gun with some weight so that the holster hung properly.
thanks

I would assume that it was mostly empty when filming, or stuffed with foam, like they did for the MkVII in order to give the bag some shape. It wouldn't make sense to use the "hero" guns when they didn't require actual screen time.

I think it depends largely on the shot at hand. Even a rubber gun could hurt/bruise if fallen on so in scenes where Indy will be rolling around, probably foam is used to just fill out the holster a bit. In other scenes where a glimpse of the holster may show no gun, a rubber stunt gun would be used. There's a picture of Indy from LC fighting on the tank that shows the butt of the pistol in Indy's holster is not a WG.

Bink:
I did not even think about the bag...and yes foam makes sense. As you suggested it also makes no sense to have the hero gun in the holster and as you suggested IJ that injury could result in a fight if you fell on it. Good points. I would love to see that pic of the non WG in the holster!

Found a thread with the the picture I was thinking of. Well, not the exact picture, but these will serve the purpose. About 3/4 way down on page one of this thread.
