Tried to get my teenage daughter to take some pics but she was scared of getting hit...out of 35, these were the few decent ones....using two different size snakewhips....(my David Morgan was on display at the time)

steerpike, why are you holding the handle in the middle of it? Rather than holding the heel knot? You'll get more leverage and

easier cracking holding the heel knot in your palm.

Thanks Buddy...I have a two story house with wide open flat roof. The garage also has a big flat roof and that is where we (me and my daughters) usually practice whipping. I tried to do these pics on the roof cuz one can see the beach from up here as we live like one street away but my teenage daughter was scared I was going to hit her and wouldn`t sit still. But, yeah, its a great practice arena as there is nothing to get in the way.

Here the summer weather is a bit too much

The ground is too dry, the grass is like thorns it's so burnt. I've made a habit of putting a sprinkler where I crack my whip every

other night for 30 minutes just to keep it somewhat alive. In a lot of area's it's bare dirt because the sun just bakes everything.

Thanks guys..I love this thread. I practice about twice a week but it is usually in the evening and the sun is just about setting so no light for pictures... but I am trying to get my wife and older daughter to take some..if they can get over their fear of getting hit. They can stand 5 feet out of radious and still they flinch and run. And I`ve NEVER hit them or anyone else before so...
soon enough, I`ll get more...this thread is really awesome.

You're the ideal I aspire to, DHW. :) I tried to keep it flat yesterday and only managed to hit myself in the back of the head.

This is currently the only whip-action picture I have, a screen grab with my 10-foot Todd's roo.

Image

Since we already had fireworks going off yesterday, I took my CnC out and did a little showing off for the family. My sidearm improved a little and I actually whacked a plastic cup pretty good, once, between fouling my cracker and wrapping my own legs. And speaking of whacking, I felt the sting of my own lash quite a bit yesterday. I got myself across the back and side of the neck, and it gave me pause. I thought, Can you imagine getting worse than that 38 more times? I could not.

(Yes, I am a redneck.) ;)

OUCH!!!! :o :-0

yeah, you don't want to do that. Which crack were you attempting that caused all the damage? The sidearm? If so, make sure the whip is properly aligned aside and behind you. That should prevent that from happening. Once you're comfortable with that, then you could try winding up the crack with the whip in front.

And hey, thanks for the compliment. It means a lot!

Judging from the marks, I'd say most of that came from trying to reduce the angle on my overhead, but who knows? I didn't realize it looked so bad; I thought I only had the one mark on my neck.

I start my sidearm with the whip behind me and as long as I'm focused, I can get a decent crack with no collateral damage. Maybe I rushed it and/or let my mind wander.

For the overhead crack, then, I would say, that you should be able to see the whip coming around your right shoulder (provided you are right handed) before you reverse the direction to crack it. If you do this, then you can be confident that whip has passed your body and probably your head, and thus the risk of hitting yourself is nearly zero.

Here are some old shots of me in my older gear. I've been out of the Indy thing for a while and am getting back into it now only this time I got rid of the beard. LOL Here's my old cheap jrzjoe whip. Glad I wasn't the only one who had trouble cracking this gargbage whip.
