Anyone who has heard of the Glastonbury Festival must have heard of the famous Glastonbury rain and mud.... right?
Well, I took my AB Deluxe this year.... it put up with a bit of a battering from the elements, including 6 hours standing in a queue in the driving rain, and as well as keeping my head completely dry, it was also by some distance the most stylish hat at the festival, IMO.
A guy with another fedora walked past me at one point, stared at my hat and then looked back rather sadly at his own as he held it. I knew how he felt.... that's why I waited all that time for mine.
Well worth the wait. Thanks Marc!

Great hat in a great story. Would dig on seeing the drenched version too.
Cheers!

Re: AB Deluxe at Glastonbury
I actually think I saw you up near The Meeting Place Bar (or it could've been The Cider Bus - my memory is a little - er - hazy!) on the Thursday night (I spotted the hat from a mile off!). I was there in my Fed IV deluxe, which also held up magnificently in the conditions (though I did wear a tweed cap on the Thursday and Friday during the heaviest of the rain). (EDIT - I wasn't the guy looking sadly at his own hat! I love my Fed IV!)
Did you see the screening of Raiders in The Lost Picture Show tent in The Common on Friday night? My friends and I stumbled on it by accident. We were only going to watch the opening sequence, but stayed for the whole thing of course!
By the way, my avatar pic is of my Fed in the heat and dust of last year's festival.

Montana - you will likely have seen me at the cider bus as that's something of a haunt of mine during the festival. I usually take my Fed IV (as seen in my avatar picture where I'm sat in front of the Pyramid). No shame in an akubra! I saw the Raiders screening was on, bit missed it sadly.
Re. The soaking my AB got, I didn't get any pictures on my camera, but should be able to rustle one up from my friends (we have a ritual when we get in of serving fresh mojitos, and it'll be pictured in that. I'll have a dig around and post it when I find one). Essentially what happened was it gained a lot of weight and sank onto my ears a bit, but the lining stayed almost entirely dry, certainly no more than slightly damp. Dried out no problem.
I got lots of comments all festival. You get loads of hats of all sorts here, and people in the queue seemed surprised I could wear it in the rain. I had to explain it was beaver a couple of times. Lots of random "nice hat" comments from strangers too. No one called me Indy though. In fact, no one ever has. Too tall, I guess!

Re: AB Deluxe at Glastonbury
I must've spotted you when my friends and I stopped off for a mulled cider en route to Guilty Pleasures at The Meeting Place then. I saw the back of your hat first and knew imediately that I was looking at a high end Indy fedora - I wasn't sure whether it was an AB or a Penman. I could tell by the fullness at the back of the crown. That's the area of my own Fed IV that doesn't seem quite SA to me. I think this is the first time I've seen and AB "in the flesh", and I was well impressed.swisslet wrote:Montana - you will likely have seen me at the cider bus as that's something of a haunt of mine during the festival. Glasto is one of the few places that we limeys seem able to let our reserve down and enthusiastically wear hats for a week! I've never had an Indy comment either, but last year a boy of about 12 or 13 said enthusiastically to his dad "WOW! Look at that hat!" when he saw me in my Fed IV. I was well pleased, and guessed he might be an Indy fan.
It's a pity you missed the screening of Raiders. They showed it in high definition, and there was a very attractive waitress bringing round cocktails and popcorn. There were lots of big comfy cushions on the floor for lounging around on, and best of all, we missed the rain, and Bono too! I was in heaven - I'm not ashamed to admit that, even though I was at a music festival, watching Raiders for the billionth time was defnitely the highlight of my weekend!
