Wested's HERO jacket...

Post by Texan Scott »

Looks like Wested is offering the Hero jacket in either vegetable tanned 'Crispe' or 'Shrunken Lamb' with the LC label.

Shrunken lamb looks nice. 6ft hide shrunk to a 4ft one! Crispe looks like that awful "crocodile handbag" effect that some punters like.

Q: Could this be the jacket that members always wanted to receive from Wested?

I think the vege-tanning is the best thing to come out of this offering. My two centavos :TOH:

Yes, very attractive price, and very appealing design!

Both hides look good, but it's nice to know Wested has another option. I've yet to get my own Indy jacket, so I'm still looking around.

Not being picky, but it's it spelled 'vegetable' tanned, not 'vegitable' tanned.....or is that a different process they're advertising? :-k

I talked Peter into making me an early Hero a couple of months ago, just went with dark goat so I can't coment on the veg-tanned hide. IMO the pattern is REALLY good. Zip finishing about an inch from the bottom is the only major detail not SA. I've been keeping this one to myself but now might be the time to share.
Pics coming soon.

They're charging £250 for this??? I think that far too pricey! Unless Peter is selling an ACTUAL jacket worn by Harrison Ford himself in the movie, I don't see him selling very many of these ones.

Actually, that sounds pretty good. If I can find the drape of Wested's lamb with a bit more texture, in a good pattern, with a good label, I think it's worth every penny. Bravo Peter!!

I think that's wonderful that Wested is going to do this, but....

I hate to be the one to point things out like this. A lot of people are excited but I can't get past the fact that isn't going to fix their other issues most likely. Are they going to follow the pattern and not send so many variations for once? Are orders going to be filled correctly? How about QC and customer service?

I know nobody can answer this right now, but I'm very hesitant. Especially with a price like that, I expect everything to go smoothly like you'd get with Flightsuits or Tony.

Not bashing or starting a war, just sayin'. :|

I like how the website is now "Hidden," but we can still link to it :- . I think this jacket looks really great, especially in the shrunken veg. tanned lambskin. The price is a bit high, and with it, I would hope that Wested really delivers. As to the spelling mistake... ugh. Wested's website has always been full of them. So, far, though, this is a pretty awesome looking jacket.

I'd buy a G&B goat before I'd pony up $400 for any lamb jacket from any vendor. Even though lamb drapes nicely, it tears more easily than goat, cow, horse, etc. I could have bought four "Bantu Wind" jackets for that price and beat the poop out of them and kept the others as backups!!! Eh, if it's $400 it better be built to last, and for me that precludes lamb, period.

Edit: Other than the price...it looks like a nice jacket. Now, why can't they offer this patter in other hides an charge their normal prices?

The price is now listed as $313.89 or £195.00.
If that is indeed the final price, I say it's worth it.
However, the page is hidden and under construction, so who knows what the final price will be.

That's good to hear. Perhaps only the jackets made in this specialty leather will cost extra (which is understandable as shrunk hides are just that, shrunk. It would take more leather to make the same jacket)

This is exciting news for me. If I can get a "Hero" jacket in a dark brown, durable goat, I'll be ecstatic! I'd like to have a good fitting adventure jacket that will stand the test of the great outdoors.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Yes please Zoltar, and you can always start a new thread with the pics and ask the mods to immediately lock it so we can see the photos but no one can comment on them etc.

Just discuss the new Wested Hero, post photos if you have them, and stop dragging old arguments back into these new discussions. That's old news. This is new.

Thanks.

To commemorate the 30th Anniversary release of Raiders of the Lost Ark, I decided to buy a Wested Hero jacket. It was made in original dark goat with a few modifications: antique brass fittings and the ever present hidden press stud anchored firmly to the bottom of the storm flap. Could this iteration actually be the jacket that you always wanted Wested to make?

For comparison's sake, the first two images are of the Raiders dark brown lamb that was made for me around 1 1/2 year ago:
