Confused and in need of four jackets
I've only been a member since March, so up until then my knowledge of screen accuracy was not entirely accurate (a polite way of saying I was extremely ignorant). It's amazing how much I've learned about the gear, props and even the films (which I thought I REALLY knew).
I'm trying to acquire four jackets, which are as screen accurate as possible, to represent each of the four films. When I say screen accurate, I don't mean the distress...I'm talking about a brand new version, which is identical in every way...except distressing.
In 2008, I bought an OFF THE RACK Wested ROTLA in dark brown lambskin. And I thought it was very nice...until March, when I joined this site. Now I see debates about the weight of goatskin, Magnoli versus G & B etc..
I'm hoping that I can get an expert opinion, which will point me in the proper direction to obtain a screen accurate jacket (in the correct leather type) from each of the four films. Money is not a problem...I'm willing and able to spend a lot, in order to acquire the correct jackets. Which companies make the best jackets, in regard to the individual film style...and in which types of leather?
I've read a few threads, containing the words of many well informed individuals, on this topic in particular. I was going to PM these guys, with this set of questions...but I figured "this is a club", so I will treat it as a club...and post them, instead. And perhaps the answers I receive will be beneficial to others, who have similar questions.
If anyone would care to answer, I would be most grateful.
Thank you,
David

if you are after SA as possible I would go for a Tony Nowak (Riley)for Raiders. Wested for Temple of doom. Magnoli for LC in a naked cowhide and Tony Nowak for CS. duh!

I thought Tony had passed. Are his jackets still available new? Which leather types for the Raiders, TOD and CS?

yes, he has passed. That's why I wrote Riley. you can still get them from him for a price I call RIDICILOUS, but hey, you said money wasn't a problem. so...
and yes weston, Todds aswell. his jackets are very SA.
my opinion is given.
I'm out.

That's pretty much bang on. Wested can be extremely variable in quality, so if money really is no problem, get a Wested ToD and send it to Riley (Nowak) or Magnoli to copy.Indiana Holt wrote:if you are after SA as possible I would go for a Tony Nowak (Riley)for Raiders. As what Todd said. Raiders you have a few options. They say the real deal was ribby marino sheepskin. Todd's, Mags, though G&B goat is a must for quality and expert construction. Todd's and G&B.
ToD: Mags, Wested (maybe). lamb.
LC: Mags is tops in this category. distressed cow, goat makes a good jacket also.
CS: TNO. dark crystal skull (cowhide) leather. Thats what they call it at TNO.

Man, I just saw the dogs all lining up to chase their tails. It's just a big circle jerk. Call it what it is...
The visual on that is just too good, P!

Re: Confused and in need of four jackets
The man knows of what he speaks. The ideal simply isn't there. Ultimately, you have to prioritize what details make each film jacket "the jacket" in your own eyes. Only then can you ever begin to hope to find satisfaction._ wrote: Seriously, what you're saying you want? It doesn't exist... That's the most accurate and honest answer you'll get. And I've been doing this a long time...
You say money is not an issue, but what you really need is time. Time to dig through the wealth of information on this website regarding all of the subtle details of each jacket, who has gotten what from which vendor, etc.
Me; I'm not a nit-picker about small details. I like the over-all look to be right, as well as the spirit of the design. I'm not one who tends to fit well into standard sizes, so I go custom when I can. That said, speaking in ideals, my choices would be...
Raiders - Todd's Costumes standard (if I fit well in standard sizing) or Magnoli, with a few special requests.
ToD - Wested, but in person only. Failing that (I'm and American who won't fly), Magnoli, again.
LC - Toss-up between Magnoli and US Wings (depends on budget). Magnoli very preferred.
CS - US Wings.

Now there's something... I did not know ferrets liked kippers. Fountain of information this place.
Re: Confused and in need of four jackets
Thank you all. The people I was going to PM, have given their advice...now it's up to me, to just roll the dice.
