Hi, Am interested in a G&B Expedition jacket but have a few questions. I’ve tried searching but can’t find the answers yet.
1. My actual chest measurement is 42”, which size do I need. I’m guessing “42” but the sleeves and back height look small/short. Does anyone have a 42 to give me accurate measurements from ?
2. Is it a brass zip ? can I replace it with a silver/nickel one ?
3. does it have leather facings ? I don’t want to keep getting my shirt caught in the zip.

As far as the leather facing, I'm not sure that would keep your shirt out of the zipper. It's meant more to keep the jacket lining away from the zipper. If your middle is pushing your shirt into the zipper teeth as you're zipping up, that's a separate issue.
If your chest is actually 42 than 42 in a jacket will be too tight. You need room to zip up, wear other clothes, breathe, etc.
I have a 42 T; I am six feet 2 and 185 pounds. I think my chest is around 40 inches. The jacket is far from short. It is 27 inches from the back collar to the bottom and the sleeves are 25 and a bit inchs long.
If your chest measures 42 inches, then you would most likely need a size 42R or T (I measure 44 and ordered a 44R). They build into the jacket extra girth, in addition to your true size. The G&B does not have leather facings along the zipper, but I've not ever needed facings in a G&B, because the lining is sewed tightly against the leather. If you get an OTR, pre-made G&B, then it will have a brass zipper. If you go custom, they might be able to accomodate the silver zip request, but usually custom sizing, etc., adds $250 to the price tag. A sales person can tell you if they can source a different zip.
Some people have ordered one size smaller with a G&B and found it to fit just right.

Problem is Dave is G&B's historian, and he has mentioned before that he deals with the historical accuracy and technical stuff. Sales would be of more help in this sitation. What they will do is follow up with a sizing chart that he will need to fill out. Then they will determine what size would best fit. I just went through it.

Sleeves: 24 3/4", Pits: 26", back length: 26.
Nonetheless, Dave can provide quite a bit of assistance, and at the very least can pass along the questions to others there who can answer them if he himself cannot.

Your questions are pretty basic, though, so I don't think you'll need to 'talk' to anyone else.
Thanks for all answers guys. Someone at G&B finally wrote back to me after a week (reason I posted here was I got no answer). All they said was a 40T. Think I need to follow that up now. Whats confused me is that the sizing chart jon the G&B doesn't have a back length measurement (as far as I can see), which is surely one of the most important measurements.
