I've been out of touch for a while, so I may have missed this if it has been posted already...
But, I was reading a copy of JetGala magazine the other day, and I came across an ad with a claim by London based hatter, Lock & Co., stating they provided the original hat for the Indiana Jones movies. Is this the original store where Ford found the original Herbert Johnson fedora?
Anyway, they have a few fedoras on their page, a few of which could have possibilities:

Re: Interesting Find
Hi there! Good to see you back around!
Check out this page for history of the Indy fedoras.

Interestingly enough, when I attended my first summit here in the UK, we all visited Lock and Co in London and we were told by the lady in the store that Harrison had gotten his Indy hats from there store. I spoke to the owner, James Lock and asked him what size hat Harrison wore, and he told me with a thick Irish accent: "Oh yes. Well, Harrison is quite a big, tall fella. I think he was about a size 60." What was also awesome was the fact that he let a few of us go into the back of the store and take pictures of some of their blocks. The way they keep their hats in that store is incredible, all neatly stacked, unlike Swane, Adeney, Brigg who we also visited before hand, had them stacked on top of each other.
Out of interest, I've just found this page: http://www.swaineadeney.co.uk/products/ ... index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Interesting Find
Call me a cynic, but that info on the Swaine Adeney Briggs site sounds bit forced. Anyone know how long that information has been on their site? Reads like they took some of the material right off the main page.

Re: Interesting Find
First - OK, I deserved that.
Second - I was hoping you might chime in since you have much of the back story. I knew from reading that Swales' recounting of events us most consistent with other parties involved. The text of the SAB site was just a little 'too good' knowing what has been researched, discussed and written around these parts. Almost like COW provided the credibility for them to make the claim they were the source of the original fedora.
It's probably splitting hairs, but the way they describe the encounter with HF and SS seems too good to be true. "Hi. I'm SS and I'm making this movie called ROLA and I want you to provide a hat for it." Maybe he was very different back then, but my sense is his level of secrecy with a film project is a little higher than that. Certainly it was by CS.
And 45 hats ordered for the film? I don't remember a number that high ever being kicked around before.

Indiana Jeff

Re: Interesting Find
It's been my observational experience that Lock & Co do not keep strict track of things, and often make vague claims based on a star buying hat for themselves, or buying one for a movie and assuming it was in the next movie of their to come out. They claim to have supplied a hat for Sherlock Homes that clearly turns up in the the film with Foxx about the homeless musician (I forget the name). Another model they sold to a star showed up in press photos and candids, not a movie at all. So, I think of Lock & Co claims as breadcrumbs that may lead to the truth, rather than truth itself.
