Just got my Hi-Power

Post by Pyroxene »

I just received my FM Hi-Power (Argentine) These pistols are based on license-produced examples of the FN-Browning Hi-Power HP-35. All for $300.

It's great! I had Tip Burns check it out and it's a shooter. Needs some cleaning. I'll do that tonight. Then it's bright and early at the range on Saturday.

This gun completes my Indy gun collection. Thanks to RonC for the suggestion.

Got to shoot the gun today. It's great. Easy to use. It has the classic "Browing Bite" and the webbing on my hand between my thumb and forefinger was red. I didn't mind too much. I guess a pair of WL Gloves will fix that. ;)

I had some Failure to Extract (FTE) problems with it. I did some extra cleaning on the extractor rod to see if that will do the trick on fixing it.

Other than that, it worked really well.

I have heard that the extractor is an issue with the Argentine Hi-Power. A Belgian replacement is the fix if the additional cleaning doesn't help.

Excellent buy, Pyro! Hopefully we can get together soon for an impromptu shooting session somewhere here in Texas.

Thanks! I talked to Tip and he has an extractor on order. I really hope this pans out as it's always fun to hit the 10 ring when you are at the range. This gun can do it.

Tip Burns replaced the extractor on my Hi-Power on Friday.

After a little minor fitting, he was able to make it work. He test fired 5 rounds and they worked fine. I went to the range the next day and put 70 rounds of various mfg. ammo through the gun and there were no problems.

This was the fix for the problem. Thanks Tip for your help.

Congrats, Pyro.

Welcome to the BHP asylum. :D

You may want to (or have your gunsmith) do a detail strip and cleaning. It is insanely easy. I'm at work, so I don't have an address for breakdown instructions, but I'll see if I can't find them later.

Be sure to check out the BHP guru's (Stephen A. Camp's) website: www.hipowersandhandguns.com . The books he sells are worth their weight in gold.

Be sure to keep us updated on how it does at the range. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm very interested to know.

Cheers!
Wes
