Indy gun misinformation!

Michaelson, what kind of Webley is this? It looks like it has the 6-inch barrel of the MK-VI, but the birdhead handle grip style of the earlier Webleys. Any info here would be greatly appreciated!

It's the MkVI officers model, and can be seen in the temple scene in LC where Indy surrenders his revolver to the Nazi soldier. They usually came with 4 inch barrels, but there 6 inch tubes as well. This is a nice example.Their movie usage info is TOTALLY wrong, since it was only used in Last Crusade and NEITHER one of the first two movies, but at least they tried.

Neat-o! I wonder if the gun pictured is, in fact, an actual film-used gun. I think their information, though, is a bit off, to say the least!

Geesh...it's an epidemic! This fits right into what myself and others were saying in another post (In the Fedora section) about people, companies and institutions not getting their facts straight in regard to the Indy Movies. These guys displaying the Webley on their site obviously had to do some kind of research to find out Indy used a similar type of weapon, but apparently were too lax to find out exactly WHICH movie he used it in.

Out of three (count 'em, three) choices, they picked the two WRONG ones? I just don't get it!

It's still a nice lookin' piece though...pretty cool find.

Well, as I discussed 'ad nasium' in a related string regarding auction and sales firms, they are only responsible for showing you the item in it's best light, and not necessiarily the content of the item description. That is the fault of the owner of the item.

Whipwarrior, if I'm reading this site description (as well as the photo tag owner), then this is the one used by Ford in the movie. Regards. Michaelson

I made a careful examination of the relevant scenes on the DVD, and the Webley does indeed have the birdhead grip. But on the Mediterranean beach scene, if you pause just as Indy reaches down to pull the gun from his waistline, and track it frame-by-frame, you will see that the screw going through the handle is set into a metal ring, exactly like the standard Webley MkVI. The gun pictured on the website, however, does not have this configuration, leading me to believe that it is not the exact same gun. Plus, the gun in the movie has black handgrips, and this one does not.

Funny I e-mailed them a question concerning if Antonio Banderas guns in Desperado were p-89's (9mm) or p-90's (45 acp) and never got a response, so I wonder how infomative they are. I'd stay here on Indygear for Indy guns and Info. They do homework!!!!Never did find out 89 or 90's. Oh well.

I'm pretty sure the brace of guns from Desperado were of the .45 caliber variety.
