In a dilemma

Post by darthbish »

I have a jacket but it's not terribly accurate and I'd like to get a new one..

Thing is. Thanks to gym work I'm 5'7", 195 pounds, with a 45" chest, 37 waist and 18" arms (flexed) 15" relaxed.

Global Gear's apparently not that good and odds don't have anything my size..(except for a XXL which I'm thinking will be wayyyyyyy too long)...as would most other manufacturers.

Any suggestions?

Without going custom, you could try a u.s. wings jacket. There are several to choose from, and for the most part are quite roomy in the arms and chest. The Wested I owned was tighter in my biceps, but I haven't had any problems with my wings jackets. If you're wanting light weight, you may want to check out Todd's standard...but check the measurements.

The Wings may be long tho, my VIP is 27 inches in the back although the Legend is shorter i think. The Todd's in XL is 25.25, (old size xl). The Todd's may also be tight in the bicep, mine measure 16" and there is just enough room. The Wings is more roomy.

Darthbish,

I am roughly your size except a little taller than you at 5'9" (5'10" after a good back cracking!)
Chest is 45", waist 37", biceps 15" (body by "Internet" )

My US wings Legend Cowhide is a size large, and is roomy on me, but not so much that looks baggy. It has a very "Raiders" fit to it.
The back length on mine is 25" even and sleeve length is 26" even. The bicepts on my jacket are pretty roomy and I would suspect that your 18" Guns would have no problem filling them out comfortably.

Plus the leather stretches a bit and conforms to the wearer quite quickly.

My only concern woul be the sleeve length, as they are a little long on me when my arms are at my side.
Luckily it is an eash and realatively inexpensive fix.

darth, you might consider going custom in a Wested. To be honest, there aren't really any other vendors that will basically let you choose whatever skin you want, particularly horsehide, goat, various textures and shades of cowhide or lamb, AND have it customized for around $300. Go custom and get exactly what you want in skin, sleeves, back length, etc. AND nail it the first time with a great value.

A few questions up front....

thin or simi-thick leather? Raiders or LC-ish? Any skin you are leaning towards?

Well, the jacket I've got at the moment is quite thick...(got it made in Thailand with a couple of pics for reference)...So I think I'd be looking at a thinner type of leather, Raiders style.

Lamb or goat comes to mind. Obviously, goat for durability. They also have something called, DB lightweight cowhide, according ot KT, and I just may get my next one made from that type of skin.

I don't think an OTR jacket would be a good idea under the circumstances? ;)
