What wearing my hat to work got me...

Post by thatguyno1 »

... an Indy theme retirement reception. Friday April 8 was my last day at work. I have been wearing my TOD every day since I got it in 2006. Even the people in the commuter bus line knew which line to get in when they saw "the guy in the hat".

The people in the office decorated our big conference room in an Indy theme including the Indy music playing during a powerpoint presentation of old pictures. They had table decorations with old boxes with a costume indy fedora and whip on the tables. They designed labels and wrapped chocolate bars and small water bottles with the caption "The adventure continues". They also put together two albums of pictures of my co-workers with the costume hat and whip for a keepsake for me. They actually had to sneak them around the office over the last months so I wouldn't catch on to what they were doing.

Thought I would share some pics:

Note the table decorations:

Note the pic of me in the grey CS :

A couple of the pics from the album:

In the album they pasted the pics on light brown paper with the edges burned and left enough room for each person to write comments.

And the last slide in the powerpoint had these two side by side with the caption "Like father... like son".

Enjoy, Paul ô¿ô

Yes, seems your colleagues really, really appreciated your company! That's a very nice gesture!
And, if I may add, you really are your father's son! That's a grea hat he's wearing in this pic! :TOH:

That is wonderful. I particularly like the father/son idea.

Congratulations on the retirement. BTW, I have a pic of my great grandfather from the 1950's (he must have been in his 60's) and he is wearing a great fedora.

Great party, you obviously meant a lot to your coworkers for them to send you off with such care and style.

Congrats on being paroled from the 'daily grind.'

Thank you everyone and a special thanks to Steve for making those great hats. I was in the Internal Control department for my last 5 years with the company. There were only 5 of us but those other 4 are really great people. Many of the people that showed up were people I hired myself or recommended hiring to other departments because I had worked with them at another company. I was really afraid there weren't going to be many people show up but 5 minutes after I got there the room filled up to standing room. I like to think it was for me but then again there was free food there

Those are some great photos and it's clear you've left a great impression on a group of people who will definitely feel your absence.
Hope you ENJOY your retirement, sir!

Congrats on your retirement!

I'm not quite there yet, but my co-workers gave me a similar treatment for my 25th anniversary with Ford.

It takes more than the usual amount of thought and effort to do a theme party. You are obviously loved there. Happy retirement!
