Henry brim getting wavy/distorted.
The Henry is a very soft hat. Itypically hang it on a hook on the bathroom door. My 3 year old likes to slam the door open and crush the hat. I've also tried to curl up the sides of the brim to get the Venice pier thing going.
Long story short: my brim is getting wavy and is no longer straight on the sides on its own. When I put it on, I have to adjust the brim to get the distortion(s) out.
Any suggestions? (I no longer hang the Henry on the bathroom door).

Re: Henry brim getting wavy/distorted.
When you say you hang it on the bathroom door, do you you mean the outside or the inside? If it is the inside it may be getting exposed to too much moisture. Just a thought. I'm sure John will chime in soon.

Re: Henry brim getting wavy/distorted.
Any chance we can see some pictures?
Re: Henry brim getting wavy/distorted.
I'l see about pics.

I've ironed the odd brim or two in my time. You lose the flanged curl, but it does get rid of warp and distortion. If your hat is turned, you will get some swoop anyway - especially in a soft hat.

OK.
Here is a link to the album.

It seems worse when I try to curl it. I cannot get a nice uniform curl.
I wonder if I should weigh it down with a heavy book to flatten it out?
Whisy--what happens after u iron it? Is it just flat?

You hat needs to be reflanged. If you pay for shipping to and from I will do it for free.
Re: Henry brim getting wavy/distorted.
My wife told me to UPS it to you and to include a return tag. I shall do that and insure it both ways JUST in case. Pretty bad when a hat becomes your baby.BendingOak wrote:You hat needs to be reflanged. If you pay for shipping to and from I will do it for free.
I thank you. And when I get some money again, I'll be ordering that size 61 grey Henry (I was this close to pulling the trigger at the first of the year, but had to have surgery----the Henry money went to a surgeon, but the good news is that I get to live!)
You are the best, Mr. Penman.
Where do I ship it?

Do I send it to the mailing address or the shop address?
And I'm going USPS.

This was a choice?!jkdbuck76 wrote:----the Henry money went to a surgeon, but the good news is that I get to live!)
John Penman sells Henry's every day of the week....but we have only one of YOU, so keep well, and keep giving your money to your doctor if/when it comes to that. John will be there for you when you're ready.
...and personally, I don't think your brim looks bad at all. Your hat looks used and an 'old friend' rather than new out of the box, but then that's just me and how I like 'em.
Regards! Michaelson

It is more wavy than Joel Osteen's hair!

Customer service. Plain and simple.
Re: Henry brim getting wavy/distorted.
I've done customer service for the past 12 years.
I know a good one when I see him.
John is one of the good ones.
I mean, we have got to be the pickiest client base on Earth and the man
spoils us.
UPDATE 04/18/2011: Got a call from Mr. Penman while he was putting my Henry on the flange.
He works on Sunday. For that thou shalt surely burn in ####, John.

Re: Henry brim getting wavy/distorted.
OK. The re-flanged hat arrived yesterday. The brim is nice and it is a bit stiffer. Mr. Penman says that the re-flanging process reactivates the existing stiffener.
Looks good and looks like the kind of go-to-meetin' hat it once was.
Thanks, Mr. Penman!
