Is The Current Wested TOD The Same As Its NH Source?

Post by CM »

Have they #%$*^ the pattern, or is it still a repo of the actual thing? I'm getting fonder of this jacket as time passes.

By the way - is the more recent Magnioli TOD based on the Wested pattern, or is that a one of those questions that creates creative answers ?

The few I've seen recently still look great. Priovided they still get the smaller (but still essential) details right, like the side vents and the top of the stormflap,
I think it's safe to say the pattern is still pretty faithful to the copied NH jacket.
I've emailed Peter regarding chest size of a size 40; if I hear back, I may just go ahead and do the unthinkable..order another Wested!

That would be most appreciated Indiana Dymond! I haven't heard from Peter yet (possibly a bad sign!).
Really, it's just the chest measurement, armpit to armpit (zipped, obviously) that I need, since all the other main ones would be
custom.
My chest measures pretty much exactly 40" around these days, so if a size 38 is around 42" around, it might be more to my liking.
I'm after the long, slim fit of the screen TOD. I love how low down the small pockets look placed on such a long (relatively) jacket.
How do you find your new TOD btw? Loving it I bet! :TOH:

I'll get on later,I'm away from my jacket now  .

It's my first proper Indy jacket ( I all ready have a 2001 Disney, great souvenir from my honeymoon, but now way a real Indy jacket) and I love it.Got it in the dark lamd, the perfect hide IMO.
Westeds TOD is a no brainer, just like a Todd's standard,as near perfect to SA as you can get at a real bargin price :D .

Don't be hard on Peter,I did hear that he was off on holiday around now.Plus he is now semi-retierd.

FYI if you order the jacket does come with a 10 guage aluminium zipper, not the 8 guage Westeds site says.Plus they may not have the correct pronged slider in stock.
I know a member ( Zoltar ) in the UK who has some. That's where I got mine,he's more than happy to send them straight to Peter if you want ;) .

For my 40" Wested TOD jacket I have the following measurements with the jacket fully zipped and the side straps un-done.

shoulder seam to shoulder seam..............19.5"
arm pit to arm pit.................................22.25"
across hem.........................................21"
arm hole( from shoulder seam to arm pit)....9"

Notes on the fit; the jacket is a very slim fit, sleeves are narrow no 'flying squirral' effect with this one at all.

If you need more please ask,my jacket is 26" from collar stand to hem and has 25.5" sleeves so should be VERY close to the Noel Howard original.
Front length from bottom of collar stand to hem is 22.5"

Thanks very much Dymond, very helpful information!
Looks like I'll be needing a 38R; 5 inches of room is a tad too much for my frame, for a TOD at least.
Very glad to hear about the narrow sleeves and small armholes, just like the screen jacket!
It's good to see Wested can still get the Temple pattern just right.
One last thing; with a 26" back, what's the front length/stormflap length?

Kevin I've updated my post to include the front length (22.5" from bottom of collar stand to hem).

Be carefull with the sizing ( I'm sure you will).
My chest is bang on 40" (relaxed with loose tape) and I wouldn't want it any tighter, especially with it zipped up.
Also according to the Wested size chart my jacket would be a 40" LONG. I NEVER take a suit jacket in 40" long ,allways a REGULAR.

My thought on this is that the Wested size chart covers ALL the jackets they make, and as we know ROLA,TOD,LC & CS all have differing lengths.

You're very gracious, Mr. Dymond, thankyou!
Frankly, I'm all set to order; I'm just waiting to see if I hear back from Peter.
It's a nice change; in the past, whenever I ordered from Wested, I was hoping for the perfect jacket each time. Each time, I was let down. :(
Now, since I already have my perfect jacket, so as long as it's well made and fits nicely, it'll be fine by me! :)

Got an email from Peter (Thanks Peter); the standard chest size for a size 40 is 44" around. Not too shabby.
I'd have to insist it was 44" though, not 45" or 45.5". I'd rather it be a tad smaller than larger. Oversize
chests in jackets are a contributing factor towards the nasty squirrel effect when zipped.
4" of wiggle room (for my 40" chest) is plenty, any more is just not needed.
Now I just need to decide on a leather...

I'm in the same boat as you. the leather. I have decided to get a tofd with a few mods. size 46 to get alittle baggy look to the jacket you see in the village scene.

I have the dark lamb (love it), Zoltar has just had one in the authentic brown Goat, and Steerpike has had one in the distressed cowhide. All look good so its a hard choice.

Yeah, it's tricky. I like the lamb, or at least the dark lamb. I didn't like the colour of the authentic brown lamb, yet I feel the dark may be too dark..
My old dark lamb LC felt thinner and draped slightly better than the authentic brown too. Might have just been that particular batch of leather, I couldn't say.
The recently posted goat TOD looks great, and i bet it's tough as nails. I'm leaning in that direction at the moment.
Distressed Cowhide is the only one out of the question. Too thick and heavy looking for my tastes, though it has the right 'look' in terms of colour and texture.
I wonder how your bigger arms will go with the smallish armholes and sleeves of the TOD Holt?
I read they're pretty small (compared to Raiders/LC I guess), and though I only had my Wested TOD for a short while years ago, I recall that's pretty true.
For me, it's a great thing. I got kinda normal sized arms. Not too skinny, but not too '_' either. ;)
If only the Aussie dollar was as good against the Pound as it is against the US Dollar though. Sadly, it is not. :(

that's one of the modifications. I adding an 1.25'' extra space in the armholes/bicep area. so it should work. well hopefully,, if it will be to narrow and end up stupid looking? I will sell it and get my final ''ultimate'' LC jacket.

The ultimate LC jacket (for a while). Holt, if someone gave you the Smithsonian jacket, you'd soon be eyeing off the Chicago one. ;)

I am in the market for a ToD jacket, either Magnoli or Wested, I cannot decide. I read about the Side vent configuration issue and wanted to ask if someone can explain that to me... how are the side vents constructed differently on the ToD jacket? Also, what would be the best skin for a ToD jacket?
