Raiders rain coat... anyone has a clear picture?

Post by Erri »

I couldn't find any previous topic about it but if there are please feel free to point them out.

In the "clipper" plane scene of Raiders, Indy boards the plane and climbs up the stairs with something that looks like a rain coat or trench coat in his hand. Is there any clear picture (perhaps in the making of or backstage photos) of that coat? Looks very similar to the Nazi spy coat but can't be totally sure of that.
Thanks for your help

From what I can see of it on screen it looks like standard civilian trench coat, sometimes called a 'Bogart', in heavy light khaki cotton.
These were made as a lighter alternative to the military woolen greatcoat.
You can still get them from more traditional 'gentlemen's taylors'.

I wonder if there is any archive picture where it appears. It seems to show too little to idenify the maker or an exact model unfortunately, but it would be great to know, I've noticed it only today for the first time

He also wore one in LC as well.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it was made at Bermans and Nathans since it was a costume for the lead. Could be a found item but based on all the other stuff they made I'd go with B&N.

Ah yes I forgot about Last Crusade. B&N was my guess too, although they might have simply purchased it in London through B&N (a Burberry coat perhaps?)

I could SWEAR that some years ago there was a thread on this and it was said the coat was made by Burberry trench coat :-k Of course I have "been known to be wrong...from time to time. Oh Dear." :)

I was still at high school back then

Also Piroxene, in that thread, put his money on the possibility of the raincoat being made by MBA. Shame nobody ever found out more.
In this case I could only guess that Ford was carrying the same raincoat that the german spy wears, we can see that one before Ford boards the plane.

I wanted to give this a bump... I'm looking for a brown over-coat for spring that's Gear-esque.

Any ideas?
