Color Comparison of SIX possible Indy Trousers! (new photo!)

Post by Chewbacca Jones »

Well, I was packing for the QM today and realized I had a great sampling of "close enough" trousers, all of different colors... along with two true Indy trousers. I decided to take a comparison photo for color choices.

I took 3 photos, all showing, from top to bottom;
LL Bean Dark Khaki Dress Chinos
LL Bean Driftwood Dress Chinos (replacement for dark khaki, less green, more tan/brown) - seems to be discontinued.
Magnoli Dark Khaki Wool Blend
LL Bean Taupe Microfiber Chinos (same pattern as Dress Chinos)
LL Bean Brown Double L Chinos (don't have pocket flaps)
Noel Howard 100% Wool Raiders

1. With Flash

2. With Flash, light source at slightly different angle

3. No Flash

I really like the color on the Brown ones. If a darker color is more important to the wearer than pocket flaps, they are the ones to grab.
I hope this helps people somewhere along the line. :TOH:

Newly Added - April 3, 2011

This photo shows a the newly reissued Taupe color for the cotton Dress Chinos (middle). They are surrounded by (left) microfiber taupe, (right) cotton dark khaki, and (top) Magnoli dark khaki wool blends.

I like the Noel Howard 100% wool, they look like my vintage pinks I bought for color reference.

I find it very interesting that I looked at the photo before reading the descriptions, I picked my two favorites. Then when I looked at the list, they were the Magnoli and the Noel Howard.

Great comparison! Also, the wool NH pants at the bottom are identical to my custom Cavalry Wool in "vintage brown".

Kind regards,
Magnoli

Exactly "how" identical Mr. Magnoli? Not saying that I'm doubting they're identical, but I may as well pick one of yours up instead of waiting for some NH trousers to jump up for sale :TOH:

I also looked at the photos before reading the corresponding names, and the NH immediately lept right out of the thread at me. :P

It's amazing how at any one time in the movie, these pants can look pinkish, brown, gray, etc., and variations of shades thereof. #-o

From what I've seen (personally) of the Magnoli blend, they are spot on matches for the Noel Howard colours in the photos above... Both with a flash and in normal light the colours and texture match well enough for me to think that the NH's above are the Magnoli's I have here...

There may be some smaller change, but it's not noticeable from these pictures, and while I have the Wested's too, I'd say that the Wested colouring is still somewhat off the above (Texture is very similar though..)..

I think Magnoli maybe out of the fabric currently though.. I'm waiting on another pair of pants and the sign saying there is no fabric in stock is still up, so I guess that's unchanged.. (Although Magnoli are WELL worth the wait..)

All the best.. :TOH:

I'm just talking about the fabric. The weave, color, weight and composition (100% wool) is all identical to NH's fabric. The details of the pants themselves are very, very close, all the points having been copied from NH's original film pants.

Kind regards,
Magnoli

They are great, and I've used them as dress pants, as well as gearing up. One day, I'll have the money for the 100% wool versions.

One question...actually two. Are the NH's ROTLA pants 100% wool? or did he offer them in more than one material?

100% wool. To my knowledge, that was the only way they came.

So can I dare to say that the wool material is SA for Raiders and calvary twill material is offered for better durability?

The NH originals are 100% cavalry twill wool, just like my higher-end pants.

:rolling: In my head; I read this with a sarcastic tone and thought that you didn't believe the NH originals were made from 100% cavarly twill wool...   .......

Sorry....totally got the wrong end of the stick..

Yeah, "cavalry twill" is a... weave? Is that the right term? It could be used with different materials. Something I learned here on COW.

Yes, that's right. You could conceivably have cavalry twill in cotton.
