ANY THOUGHTs ON THIS HAT???????? MOVIE SHOPLTD.ADVENTURER
Found this hat on ebay. Looks interesting. No brand name listed, but it reminds me of the Christy's Adventurer. I contacted the seller, and the hat is made by Movie Shop Ltd.
The specs they list are as follows:
- Light sable brown, wool felt fedora hat
- Dark brown Petersham Ribbon with bow
- 5 1/2 " open crown (for easy shaping by hand)
- 2 3/4 " front & back brim, 2 5/8 " side brim
- White satin lining, brown leather sweatband interior
- In the style of Harrison Ford
Here are some pics......tHESE ARE NOT LINKS TO THE AUCTIONS......THEY ARE OUT OF MY PHOTOBUCKET PICS

Have you bought this hat yet?
My only worry is that as it is made from wool felt, as soon as it gets wet, it will most likely shrink an taper.
For a hat on the cheaper en of the market, have you considered getting an Akubra Federation 4 fedora?

That is a Christy, is it not? Canyon is right, the Fed. is a quality made hat:

I would say it's a Christy's, but the wool felt throws me. Did they make a wool Adventurer? In any event, if you'r willing to get a Christy's, I would recommend a fur felt version. If you can't afford the Federation, look to Todd's Costumes. They have some fair hats.

Themovieshop.com carries both fur and wool felt hats. They look suspiciously...err, exactly like the Christy's Adventurer. They are likely produced by Christy's and perhaps sold under a different label?

that would be my guess, jlee. The visible stitching and bow work is nearly a dead give away.

Re: ANY THOUGHTs ON THIS HAT???????? MOVIE SHOPLTD.ADVENTUR
When The Movie Shop was first discussed here a few years ago, these things were marked as Christy's hats. There were fur and wool versions. If you do a search, you will find some info on it as I remember at least one member buying the wool felt version. I remember thinking the wool felt version was the nicest shape to a wool Indy hat I had seen. I would advise against wool felt, though. Go with rabbit fur felt if you can afford it as it will hold up longer.

Re: ANY THOUGHTs ON THIS HAT???????? MOVIE SHOPLTD.ADVENTUR
By looking at the pictures this hat looks a lot like an adVintage from Thomas...
He had those pictures up on his site some time ago, before he made new ones.
He still has some of his old pictures on his other site :
http://www.replix.de/shop/products/Film ... a-Hut.html
From what I know, Thomas is not making hats for Movie Shop, and if it's on the bay I would be very carfull if I were you.
I will let him know about those hats, if they are indeed adVintage fedoras you can't go wrong, they are great hats !
EDIT : Asked adVintage and they said no, not their hats.

When I was new here and fedora-hunting I stumbled upon their site. I even asked them if those were Christy's... they said "no." I'm guessing it just comes from the same factory and was never branded with the Christy's name.

Re: ANY THOUGHTs ON THIS HAT???????? MOVIE SHOPLTD.ADVENTUR
Yeah, I contacted them to see if it was a Christy's.........They said that they (Movie Shop Ltd) make the hats themselves. I may be the guinnea pig and get one. The price is good, and as far as the felt goes......Wool is ok for what I would use the hat for...............Around the house, cutting lawn, Halloween......I would not be wearing the hat in the rain....

Re: ANY THOUGHTs ON THIS HAT???????? MOVIE SHOPLTD.ADVENTUR
I really doubt that they make them for themselves. My guess is that since they're apparently not labeled as Christy's, that the customer service reps are just told to say that. Has anybody asked where they are manufactured? That would be another clue. Regardless, I'd be willing to bet they're made by Christy's, because the similarities are just too overwhelming.

Probably comes from the same factory, just doesn't have the "Christy" stamp on it?

Don't the new HJ's come from the same factory as well? Or am I misinformed?

If you have to buy a factory made fedora, then go with a trusted hatter who have proven themselves on our forums. Stick with Akubra. Avoid unknown quantities.
Re: ANY THOUGHTs ON THIS HAT???????? MOVIE SHOPLTD.ADVENTUR
that hat looks ALOT like the Christy's...IMO
Not just the shape of the hat...but the bow is very similar too.

Here's a wool version:
Then the same hat after about a year of abuse:
Not a bad hat for the money, but it's not going to last terribly long.

Does Christy's still offer their wool adventurer? Last time I contacted them they said they discontinued the wool version... this was early last year.

Re: ANY THOUGHTs ON THIS HAT???????? MOVIE SHOPLTD.ADVENTUR
Well, I bought the hat from Movie Shop..........It arrived yesterday. It is definetly not as good as the Federation I used to own, but it will do fine for what I need it for. The only thing I really dont like is the fact that the felt is too soft to hold a proper bash. I will need to stiffen the felt some, and it should be fine...........I hope

Re: ANY THOUGHTs ON THIS HAT???????? MOVIE SHOPLTD.ADVENTUR
Christie's. Period.Paragraph. The "Depp" style is intriguing tho' - I wrote Honetshats & asked what the narrowest ribbon & brim biding that they could offer as I was looking for an Open Road clone. They told me 1". That one looks just what they described. I wish the brim were a tad shorter, for $125 to my door, I would strongly entertain such a buy.
Hey, and maybe the pound sterling (not to mention those self-satisfied uppity Canukastanians with their $1.04 Loonies! ) will again bow down in supplication to the mighty American Greenback and make these more affordable still. As down h'yre, fur felt season is now gone for the next nine months!
