Wested Vintage Leather Jacket

Has anyone here ever bought one of these? Just curious what experience people have had with Wested's non-Indy jackets.

Yeah, I bought one of those last year to use as a motorcycle jacket. It has a nice, warm quilted lining, a medium-weight distressed leather shell, and it resembles the Indy jacket enough to satisfy this Wested afficonado of 13 years and counting. Best of all, I received the jacket exactly one week after placing my order, since it's strictly off-the-rack. Peter recommended a size medium, based on my Indy jacket measurements, but I received a size large, along with a note that said: "We decided to send a large because the jackets seem to be running on the small side."

And they were right. It fits like a glove!

I have thought on occasion to get one of these 'Hugo Someone' jackets... looks like it would come in handy, especially during the colder months.

It does. We had a rather nippy December/January down here (believe it or not), and I was toasty warm the whole time because of the Vintage Jacket's heavy knit cuffs and waist, and the heated electric seats in my Volkswagen.

haha, You guys would reply less than 24 hours after I place my order . Glad it sounds like a made the right decision.

I wasn't sure if the large would be too big or not-I was hoping to get a snug fit. Medium isn't even an option anymore..or they're just out of stock in that size, not sure.

I know it's kind of late now to influence my decision, but, got any pics?

I have a Wested Doctor Who Jacket....I love it...even wearing it today....(first colder day this year here in Sydney)

Well, that was fast. It shipped on Monday and it's here today (West Coast of Florida).


Overall I think I'm happy with it. The stitching on the "quilted" liner is pretty crappy...ugly knots all over the place and threads loose making the quilted pattern incomplete in places. I have a feeling the lining won't last very long to say the least.

I feel kind of constricted in the arms as well as far as range of motion goes, but I guess this is to be expected with no gussets? I hope once it breaks in a bit it will feel more comfortable-do you guys think a coat of Pecards will help it along or should I wait and wear it more first? The leather appears to be the same as a Wested pre-distressed cowhide Raiders I once owned. Something I was curious about before ordering since the description is pretty vague -- "Italian Tan."

Based on that description, it actually it sounds like it needs to be returned for something with a better liner and that actually fits.

The quilting issue I've had. Sounds like cheap quilt which does unravel.

The fit may just be the cut of the thing. Essentially it's a modified A2 jacket and if the front panels and armholes are poorly constructed, you get that constricted feeling. My Indy Wested is not well cut too and in certain positions the arms constrict and make the side panels shoot up almost over my head. You get what you pay for. Mind you, some very reputable vintage jackets from the 1940's are no better.

Yeah, that's why I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle of sending back. The liner I can live with. I've heard the satin linings in Wested's are the first to go anyway. You do get what you pay for, and I believe this style is the cheapest one Wested has to offer.

The constricted feeling I can get used to as well, if it's the cut of the jacket, which I think that it is. The arm holes are slightly bigger than they need to be, and with no gussets the sleeves "catch" the rest of the jacket when the arm is moved too much. I'm hoping that once it has been broken in and the leather is looser it will feel better.


I'll post some pics later and see what you guys think.

Funny thing. I just bought a leather car coat for $20 from a charity store. It fits great. Until I move. Then it rides up and creases at bizarre angles that make me look contorted. Also has the poor quilted lining we spoke of - a mess of threads. But for $20, I coudln't give a *&^%#!

I have the wolverine leather from X3 and its absolutely spot on - great for wearing out on most occasions and most folk have not got a clue that its a wolvernine - it looks and feels great and is made of the novapelle which is superb.

I talked to Gemma through email-she said they can't alter it because it's imported (which explains a lot on the quality), guess I must've missed that part in the description before I ordered.

I think I'll wear it around the apartment for a few days and and then decide whether or not to send it back for a refund. The whole reason I ordered it with confidence in spite of the cheap price was because I thought it was made by Wested..had I known it was an import I would have chose another style or went elsewhere.

I'd suggest you NOT wear it around if you're considering possibly sending it back. They'll accept new returned items, but it would be considered used if you wear it, and they may not accept it as a return.

Just a thought.
