Any info on Indy's binoculars in LC?

Post by AZIndy »

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone had any info on the binoculars used by Indy in last crusade when he was looking at the German caravan towards the canyon of the Crescet Moon. I was wondering if you had any information on these binoculars. I know they were shown for about 3 seconds and I couldnt get a good look, maybe brass? Thanks!

Hey AZ!

I got a pair of those binocs. Sad to say that I love these much better than the ones of our time. Really comfy! Civil War issue I believe. More info to come.

Koreana, that's exactly what I've always thought. Especially the way the binocs have the brass rings set up.

Well about a week ago I recieved a gift from the old mom, it's a distressed brass colapsable telescope, like the kinda that we used at sea a long time ago, I was like wow this is cool, but what am I going to do with, well I took it upstairs and looked right at my Indy Gear and said hey, he has binoculars, this is more unique, it's a fictisious piece of gear but I like and it fits the time.

There's an antique shop here in Atlanta that has a pair of binocs that look identical (and from that period) in excellent condition for around $325.

325?! Geez... I got mine for 75 for Lee Keppler. Older binocs don't even go for that much at the gunshows I go to. Wonder why that pair is so high. Better be the ones that HF actually used!

Handed?! I don't think so Jonesy. It was a race to get it and I won. HAH! We were competitors that day. Remember? It was actually the day of the John Williams summit at the Bowl. LA to San Diego then all the way up to LA for the concert. 5 to 6 hours of driving just for a piece of gear. NUTS!

Ahh, the good ole days Jun! :D

Actually I gave them to you at the Ventura show, and you didn't buy 'em then. But you went and got them that day in S.D. 8)

Geesh, what some people will do for gear! Haha.

I was in TJ MAX yesterday browsing the bric-a-brac section when I saw these binoculars. These are made in India and made to look vintage, but they were so Indy like I had to get them.

Lots of brass and leather.

Here's 2 shots from Last Crusade:

Not exact put they're in the ballpark.

They were sold to be decorative, but they do work, though the magnification isn't much. I've disassembled the whole thing and it would be possible to put stronger lenses inside.

I believe I discovered what the binocs were a couple of years ago. I will take pics of the pair I have and show you guys. I posted pics when I found them, but no one seemed interested in the binocs at the time, although everyone agreed that they were probably the correct make and model.

I will get you guys the info, too, so you can pick up a pair. I still see them on E-bay all the time, and I believe they are spot-on to the screen-used ones.

The civil war issued binocs are close, but not spot-on. the ones I have are European. Sadly, though, I forgot to grab some pics of it after we got back from my son's baseball practice late last night. I'll see what I can do on my lunch hour today.:)

Now that I come to think about it... some brittish WWII ones look pretty close to the ones in the screen grabs.
Just another thought,

Here's the info on them. I'll take pics tonight after work.

Here's what is on the eye pieces: "Colmont, Ft. - Paris"

Note that there are several styles with this name on them. Below is an example of the WRONG kind of Colmont Ft.s:
