Thanks Holt...
I'm nowhere near as accurate visually as you seem to be.... I should also say that I'm not REALLY aiming at being SA, but rather at getting the best looking Raiders Jacket I can (Which, to me, actually IS being close to SA anyway, since that's THE look...).. I think some of the recent Wested's I've seen have come rather close to your pocket shape, although with a touch less scalloping.. And the size ratio seems close to me.. Not "Holt-close", but close enough to satisfy me I think?
I did what you said above in my order... Kept it simple... Asked for pocket flaps slightly wider than the pocket sides, and 1-2cm added around the collar... I have my LC Wested to use for that as a guide, and 2cm would be close to as big as I can go, 1cm is probably a little more 'demure'....So I left it open for Peter to choose, since he can see the Jacket and I can't...
I'm hopeful! I think the ideas you had and show above are all great ones, and all make the Jacket just that little bit more "right"... And I've taken some of them, and left others, to see what happens with my Jacket..
I'll post pics here when it comes...
(It's "processing" now....)

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
yep, I agree with you. don't mind me and my mission to have a jacket so SA it wont be SA anymore... get a jacket with good raidersy details and be happy. dont look at the details like I do. just ''keep it simple'' dude. (like your doing)
can't wait to see your jacket. I know Peter can make one heckuva jacket.
I'm wondering how it will look in your choice of skin. very eager to see.
and 2cm should do just fine

Hehe...Thanks for the hint!
I also wanted to pay you back somewhat, by showing the same rough design in a different skin...Since I reckon you're interested in seeing what it would look like...So, that's a start of a payback for the idea itself!
Thanks again Sir!
All the best.

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
I remember getting my last Wested to Holt's specs. If I recall, and I could have done it to another's specs, the pockets ended up looking smallish and it was hard to get my hands in the side entry due to the scale - I'm over 6 feet - and I ended up selling the jacket to another gearhead. Like I said, I may be confusing Holt with another members specs.

Hmmm, maybe when you order I'll order mine at the same time (money in hand of course if it is) and just give them my demensions off my Wings, which is the perfect size, and tell them, ya just do the same for mine but in this leather (washed goat or lamb)

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
Nick,
It doesn't look as though Holt has posted his "specs" online here... As he said in a few posts before in this thread, he has a lot of drawings etc that make it rather hard to post here and for others to use... Hence his "K.I.S.S." ideas (Keep it simple, stupid)... Looking at the photos he's posted as well, it doesn't seem as though the pockets are smaller, but that the flaps were requested to be just a touch wider than the norm...Although only Holt would know for sure..
I could be wrong...But from what he's said, Holt's specs won't be written out here..

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
Holt a question if I may, how much LONGER would you say the collar needs to be over a standard on?
Just trying to get some specs together for my Wested order and I want to get that longer collar look

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
I have to be careful here; my last comments on this topic got me suspended (my fault).
But, it is one thing to say 'make the collar longer/wider', but where does the extra collar length come from?
The collar is attached to three parts of the jacket, obviously, the rear panel/yoke, and the two front panels.
Is it simply a case of cutting a 'deeper' section of the back out? If so, that would affect the fit at the front of the jacket,
and the chest size/front panels would have to be adjusted accordingly, or it would hang forward too far.
I'm just confused as to how it works..? Frankly, I see here a really nice looking Indy jacket, probably the nicest from Wested.
But the collar at least looks to me just like all the rest.
Please explain Holt, for I'd love to know how and what sets it apart.

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
I should add, a picture of the jacket zipped would probably answer some of my questions.
I'm predicting the jacket, fully zipped up, would end not so close to the neck/throat? As in, further down the chest by a little bit?
Because that, I can understand.

Kevin, that was my thinking also - that the neck of the front of the jacket would be lower and not so 'tight' to the throat. I too would like to see it zipped fully up.Kevin Anderson wrote:I should add, a picture of the jacket zipped would probably answer some of my questions.

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
Looks like about another 1 1/2 inches longer(38mm) on the side profile, making the collar 3 inches(76mm) longer overall.
The extra cut out looks to be on the front panels.

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
Ah! There difference is subtle, but it is there.
So essentialy, length is taken from the front panels, giving you a longer, oval shaped neckhole, rather than a smaller circular one.
It makes sense now. It actually gives a better look zipped too. Slightly looser, cooler.
I imagine one would have to allow for an extra inch or so of front length to compensate for the longer collar effect.
Thanks Holt. If I ever order another Wested, that's one change I'd request.

Re: KT's new jacket....
So over the last year i really got inerested in the mistakes in the raiders jacket. The jacket TN had was full of mistakes and short cuts. One mistake was on the collarstand and another was on the armseam and more. This prooves the jacket was handmade and made under alot of presure. And I'm kinda inerested in these mistakes and shortcuts so i started looking for mistakes in my latest jacket and I did find a few. Obviously the armreams line up but I found more interesting ones. Feks, the collarstand being alittle taller on the one side. The backpanel is not 100% centered. The bottom of the stormflap is alittle badly done. There is some sloppy stitching here and there but i love it all makes me feel like im wearing a raiders jacket like it was made back then under all that presure. Don't get me wrong. I do not like obvious huge mistakes in the construction or details but small flaws like this maby is just another small quirk of that alusive jacket. so im intrested to hear if you have the same wiev as me when it comes to this?

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
I agree with you Holt...
I think one of the best things about "handmade" goods as opposed to machine/factory made stuff is that sometimes there are mistakes, or cuts, or things that make the product twice as good that happen by mistake, and it's rare that you'll find these "personalities" in something made EXACTLY the same as every other product by a factory run...
I think it's rather like evolution.... While making these things by hand, some "mistakes" crop up naturally, and often those mistakes aren't so "useful" for the product being made, but sometimes (in the design for example) a "mistake" occurs which makes the product function better (or look better、or whatever..).. Without the chance for these "mutations" you end up with a stunted product, and one that can't "grow" enough to change...
While being incredibly frustrating for those trying to copy the originals, these "mutations" are often the things we see on screen, (since they have the money and need to design "original" things, rather than "everyman" goods), and consequently "gearheads" end up WANTING those mutations carried over into their own clothing, or goods, etc....
I think it's invaluable... Without the changes we'd have a much easier job copying, but it would be less "passionate" since the differences from "THE JACKET" when compared to "A JACKET" are what we're all here to look for...
Entirely agreed...(Sorry for the science-based ramble too)..

Okay, I know that I don't spend a whole lot of time in the jacket section, but I have to say, Holt, that has to be one of the most gorgeous jackets that I have ever seen.
You guys really need to send me more replacement keyboards as I've just drooled all over this one.
Magnificent jacket, Holt, and it looks great on you.

With great sadness i have to say that my jacket died. It is beyond repair. It is weird this happend to my jacket as this is the second time. First time i ripped the shoulder of. I shipped it back and had peter repair it. He did an awesome repair job. really! But to my surprize it happend again 2 weeks later. this time the collarstand came of. I had it zipped up and was on my way out when i felt my wife took me by the arm. She wanted a hug and then i heared that awfull sound i did not want to hear...man! I have NEVER had any problems with any of my lamb jackets before so i think there must have been some construction error with this. I sent peter an email about it. So he knows. Its really sad because i got this jacket as a gift. It has sentimental value to me

Holt,
Did it rip along the seam or straight through the skin?
That......Really......*****.........
Especially since you had such a great shape to it!

Yeah. It was 'one' hug. She is strong. As i told michaelson here the other day, im trying to get her to cut down on the steroids she's using. Lol. Pictures i cant post. I have no computer these days. Im surfing from my phone. Let me draw you a mental picture. Think from where the top shoulder seam begins. Its ripped from there and from the collarstand stitching all the way to the stormflap and alittle downwards. To get this repaired you'd have to change half the jacket. Not worth it. Too expensive and too much repair work on an already badly constructed jacket. I just got it back from a repair job cuz of the same thing happend 2 months ago. Not sending it back twice.

Thats a wicked bummer. Holt, you and your jackets, at least you have a donzen others to pick from.
I know how you feel about sentilmental value, I once left my jacket at an airport in the Bahamas, luckly it's a small air port and only one flight a day so no chance of it being stolen. They were nice enough to send it on the next flight, so I got mine back, but I'm so soory for your jacket. When will the service be held

Thanks guys. I have not heared back from Peter yet. Im not asking for a new jacket but it would be nice to have him chim in here. Im sure he will. This jacket has clearly been constructed with an error or something otherwise it would not happen. Im thinking small tears in the leather by the stitching that makes it extremely weak and proone to tearing in that area since it happend twice. I have worn lamb jackets from him before and they have been thru lots of abuse. Mountain climbing. Rolling down cliffs. Etc. NEVER had any problems with them. They all held up.. With this jacket it happend twice. And one time from my wifes girly arm. So clearly this did got thru the QC somehow. Like i said not expecting a new jacket allthough it would be nice. but i want to point out that the QC needs a new person working there. Hire me. Lol.

Sorry to hear this Mate! Yeah, sounds like the re-attachment did not take to the already weak stich holes(like a stripped screw, once the threads are lost...). Sounds like a new jacket to me.
Just a thought that came. How about a double or triple stich on the new repair? Not very SA, but might save a jacket that means so much to you. Make it unique just for you. Cheers. Gringo

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
Holt, that screen image helps to prove that the Raiders jacket was basically an off the shoulder type jacket. It didn't fit him in the shoulders very well, but it basically looks like a slim fit, through the arms especially. Quite short as well, just touching the belt. At least, for this particular jacket. I have one that looks alot like this except for the shoulders oddity. Some of the features I think should be copied, whereas some are not practical in the "real world". For a "movie prop", it's a different situation, though. Herein, I'd say that striving for 100% screen accuracy isn't necessarily always the way to go. The off the shoulders feature sort of proves that. Some will like it, while some won't, just depends.Indiana Holt wrote:here it is zipped up.
