USWings Cowhide Legend (US)

Post by Smith »

The jacket has arrived... on the WARMEST day so far this year of course. Whoever decided Jones should wear one in the desert was crazy!

I called USWings and spoke with them about sizing.
I'm 6ft, 195, and have a 45" chest.... sort of borderline between L and XL... so with some concern I opted for the XL and am glad I did.

(Yes, I forgot to take the darn leather piece off the zipper.)

Well pleased with the jacket and the fit. IMO it leaves enough room for an extra layer in the cold and is not too large dressed normally.
Can't say enough about the leather! It is great. Just dark enough and has a brown/black quality to it, very supple and not too heavy. I forsee this jacket traveling with me for a long time.

Or in a hot humid south american jungle?

That's because the REAL Indy jacket was just a thick windbreaker, and not a motorcycle jacket.

But aside from that, the WINGS jackets look pretty good and yours is a fine example. Congrats.

Awesome! That is the darkest color I've seen yet in these US made cowhide jackets. Very, Very nice!

Thanks for the comments folks!

tekors-
Yes, that is how the jacket came. I'm planning to let it distress as worn. (I can tear up an anvil with a rubber hammer.)

Weston-
I was pleasantly surprised that the cowhide was a dark color. Really liking it.

Great looking jacket Smith! It does appear darker than mine but looks similar to Pitfall Harry's jacket imho. As Tundrarider said sleeping in it does help speed up the "lived in look" on the jacket however a word of warning, undo the straps from the buckles. I slept in one my jackets that refused to break in with natural wear. I gave it the shower treatment while wearing it, let it dry on me the rest of day, wore it to bed still damp (in a separate bedroom of course) and the next morning woke up with a much a different looking jacket. I was pleased with the overall look of the jacket except I ripped the stitching on one my straps.

I don't recall that that claim was ever made, only that the leather came from the same tannery.

Weston is correct, the leather is from the same tannery but is not the the same batch of leather used for the CS jackets. US Wings did use the remaining leather from CS for a jacket a few years ago.

I guess that leads me to my next question. How similar is the USW to the leather of the TN CS that I have? Does anyone have both? I lovemy Nowak jacket and have always wanted a Raiders in the same leather.

The USW and TN cowhides that are exactly the same are the USW 'Collectors Edition'. I have personally examined and handled both, and they ARE identical.

If you can get hold of a USW 'Limited Edition', those were made from the exact same production run as the CS TN made film jackets.

The Legend hides are sourced from the same tannery, but aren't as heavy as the TN's or the USW CE's.

This is the information that came from USW as these were being made.

I have a CS and a US wings, US cowhide legend. What Michaelson says, is dead on. (wish I could post some pics for you) The leather of the legend is definitely lighter. I would say that if the CS is a tank, then the Legend is a well armed jeep! LOL. Mine is a similar color to my CS, but still different. I have a darker CS that Tony matched to a production still. At first, I thought the Legend was a little darker, but sometimes the CS seems darker. If you're a fan of the CS look, I don't think you'll be too badly dissappointed with the color of the Legend. For Raiders, I personally think it should be darker, but the US Cowhide Legend is a fantastic jacket in its own right. Hope that's helpful!
