Wested Pants Sizing

Post by spankuh »

I ordered a pair of Wested's Indy pants in the same size that I buy for jeans - 34. I can't even get them to button! I've read that US clothing companies have been "cheating" sizes to make us fatty Americans feel slimmer. Is that the case here? Judging from how these Indy pants fit, I think I'll need to order another pair, size 38 to be safe. :Dietrich:

Same problem for me, my 34 jeans fall of me, my 34 wested's fit snugly. Might have somthing to do with the trend of wearing jeans half way down your arse!

The problem is jean size is not a good indicator of waist size.

I take a 32" in jeans but my waist measures 34".

The issue is modern jeans (and trousers) are cut to sit on the hips, but proper trousers sit at the waist (around belly button hight).

spankuh, did you take a tailor's tape and measure your waistline before ordering your Westeds?

Bink my guess is many of us are either in denial over our waist size or don't want to know as its been a long time since we were 21 years old.

Which is why you should measure! You can only place the blame on yourself if you refuse to measure ahead of time when ordering a custom pair of trousers. ;)

Please understand, I'm not complaining. I'm just trying to understand the difference in sizing.

No worries. I think you do have to take into account that jeans and other forms of casual pants generally vary depending on how low, loose, or off the hip fashion trends dictate them to be. Traditional trousers tend to vary far less in that regard.

I ordered my Weated pants in my true size and they fit perfectly. Maybe try sending them back for a larger?

My problem now is that I need some for Halloween. I'll probably just order a new pair and trade or sell the other.

Similar suggestions and experiences-

For my first pair of Westeds, I ordered a 36 waist ( I wear a 34-35 depending on brand). Then I had them tailored to fit around the waist which resulted in the baggy leg look I was wanting. Problem was that I had them tailored a little short after wearing them for a while.

The next pair I ordered were 35 and they are a little tight in the thighs.

I still like the material, but can't justify another pair yet.

Good luck with your Halloween quest. Indy at Halloween rocks.

Cheers

I am a measured size 34. Most of my pants are 34 and fit fine. However I ordered a pair of Wested Indy pants about a month ago. I wanted them extra baggy and loose in the waist so I ordered a size 36. They are a little big, actually they almost fit me perfect. If I had gone with the 34 I would have the same problem with them being to snug. This is my experience and it is recent so hopefully this helps.

I ordered my Wested pants with a 36in waist. I sure hope to God that they're the right size.

Are you normally a size 36? If so, they may still fit fine. I wanted mine extra baggy but noticed they were not quite as loose in the waist as I thought they would be.

Wested Pants Sizing

Post by djd »

I find my 36 westeds to be a pretty true 36- in other words about the same as a 34 in most jeans! Actually I have some 32 jeans that fit me ok and my waist is probably four inches bigger than that....

Well that doesn't really make much sense, does it? If they're a true 36, then they will be the same as a pair of jeans in 36. How can they be a jeans 34 if they're 36? 36 inches is 36 inches regardless of what garment is being worn.

If the Wested 36in pants fit like a size 34in jeans, then I need a bigger pair.

Wested Pants Sizing

Lol. No it does make sense really... Jeans are hardly ever the size they claim to be. Most 34s I have measure more like 36-37. It designed to kid us all into thinking we're slim.... I measure around 35 at the moment and as I say 32s in jeans fit ok. The wested 36s I have actually measure about 36.

I usually buy 36 jeans, but most of the time, after wearing them for an hour, they practically fall off feeling like 38s or 40s. >.<

Good thing Indiana Jones got me into wearing belts.

Well, using that logic, I should have bought a pair of 38in pants instead. @#$%!

Possibly. As someone else said, it's a good idea to measure your waist size because jeans size is not helpful :(

What a disappointment. After several emails, Wested just let me know that the pants won't ship out until after Halloween. I ordered them almost a month in advance.

Wow, in that case you should just cancel and save up for a pair of Magnoli's trousers, they aren't that much more.

You simply can not trust sizing lables in clothing. You MUST get measured by someone else to get a true, accurate reading. Make tailor made and custom clothing purchases from your measurements, not a clothing lable.

I wear U.K size 32" waist trousers and all the several pairs of jeans, formal trousers I have fit me perfectly.
However, size 32" Wested trousers were far too tight, they were happy to exchange and 34" fitted perfectly.
On a cautionery note, I sent them back registered post for £3.00 but the Post Office lost them.
The slightly more expensive recorded delivery is a better option.

It looks like Wested's should be sized up one or two... Mine fit really well...I'm a 34, although that's a rather loose 34.. I prefer to have some room for comfort usually, and the Wested's fit perfectly in the size I ordered (36)... It's a real nice fit, so I'd suggest when ordering Wested's to go higher by two or three to be sure...
The shirt on the other hand is rather a pain... Frustratingly big.. I'm large... But this shirt seems to have been made for a couple of people my size.. Standing back to back and wearing the same shirt... It's nice and cool, but so loose that it looks like a beach shirt.. LOL.. Ah well... The trousers fit so well I can live with it..
