Just so you know...
I was talking with Peter for about a half hour on the phone today and he said something I felt I had to share with you guys here. They will no longer out source jackets from India. All of the rack jackets from now on will be made in the Wested house. Good stuff!!
We were also talking about my new project and we have come to a deal. He gave me an offer I could not resist. This will be awesome!

Holt, that's great news!
And thanks Peter for keeping the making of your great jackets in the UK!
I know where I will be going when I need to get a new jacket!

Sounds like a dream come true!! Can't wait
Re: Just so you know...
You mentioned a new project? Is this just the jacket you were talking about getting for yourself, or do we have something new coming out of Wested?

Re: Just so you know...
Very cool, but, I wonder what this will do to the OTR jacket prices?

I have no idea what Peter has up his sleeve.

That's good to here! I think Peter was having them all done in house back when I got mine.

Re: Just so you know...
So glad to hear this. QC is probably so much easier to control when everything's in house. I've never been disappointed with Wested's work from their shop. I've never seen their India made products, though.
India and China do make some good stuff. But with the cost of material being pretty much consistent, and the extra paid to ship the products, the only thing left to exploit is the labor cost. If the worker making the product can't afford what he's making, exclusive of some extravagant luxury item, (which I likely couldn't afford myself), I don't really want it, regardless of what country it comes from.
Just my rule of thumb.
I want an Indy-style jacket in old-fashioned, London Fog/ Burberry style raincoat gabardine, like the Reeves fabric. Wonder if Peter could/would do it?

Re: Just so you know...
The whole mystic of the Wested jacket to me was the fact it WAS made by British craftsman. When the OTR's began coming out of India, I felt something was lost.
You have NO idea how pleased I am to read he's returning to his roots.
Thanks for sharing that, Eric!

Re: Just so you know...
That's good news for ALL of us. I, too, was dismayed when I learned that Wested was outsourcing their OTR Indy jackets. The news was very disturbing, and it made me fortunate that I'd already purchased my last (and most perfect!) Indy jacket long before the revelation made headlines. I wonder if only the Indy jackets were being farmed out, because I recently bought an OTR non-Indy styled bomber jacket with knit cuffs and waist to wear while riding my new motorcycle, and the label says: Wested Leather; Designed by British Craftsmen. I have to give it credit: the thing is durable. It survived my first (minor, but stupid) crash with only one sleeve stitch cut, so I can't knock the product, regardless of where it was made. Anyway, enough rambling. It's nice to see Wested embracing its English heritage once more.
Long live Wested Leather!

Re: Just so you know...
A couple of COW members have asked me about the outsourced ROLA Special offer jacket in particular (the one I have depicted in my "Lighting Effects" thread).
The link for that jacket is still up on the Wested Leather site, so I am guessing that jacket is still available at least for the short term?
