U S WINGS "Legend" Striated Lambskin IMPORT

Post by RayROnline »

I now am the proud owner of tha fantastic U. S. WINGS Imported Striated Lambskin Original Pattern Indy Jacket. I was told I should start a topic and post some pics. I took these outside, on a hanger, in the late afternoon sun in hopes of getting the correct color and grain. Sorry I didn't have anyone to take shots of me wearing it so you could see the fit. It is definitely a dark brown outside and slightly lighter color inside. I love the fit of this L on my 5' 8", 170 lb. frame. It is soft and durable. I have worn it in 65 degree weather and 35 degree weather (the temps. bounce around here this time of year) and I was perfectly comfortable either way.

Judging by pictures elsewhere on the Forum, I tried to shoot areas of interest. I hope you see what you want. If there is anything I have left out, just ask and I'll try to get a shot or 2 of it for you.

BTW, that's the inside Right pocket (#2 of 2 inside pockets)

No problem :TOH:

it's 640x480 pixels

go to photobucket, click edit on picture, rezise and click ''save a copy''

don't click ''replace original'' as it may take a while before the server updates the resized picture.

That's a lovely looking jacket. Love how how nice the leather looks. This could be a great one for a dressier look. Seems like the slider and the zipper is standardised to look like the US made. Different from the Legend Cow imported seen on Weston's.

It's good to finally see another Legend jacket on the forum other than mine! At first blush, I can't really see any difference, other than perhaps the lining. How about that Striated Lamb? Were you surprised by the weight and thickness?

Perhaps its just the lighting, but this jacket doesn't look as dark as the US made? What say you on the color Weston? :-k

The dark grey/brown lining looks good, IMHO a little better than the reddish color seen previously.
Is it too soon to ask for some dimensions, such as back length, pit-to-pit width, shoulder width, and sleeve length?

Pleasantly surprised indeed. Like I said, for me it's perfect. Not too heavy or lite.

Definitely the lighting, Travis. It's pretty dark. Some of the shots were in very bright afternoon sunlight and may be a bit washed out in color.

I remember reading a post by Weston on the American made thread that he wouldn't post exact measurements due to Sarge saying something about it. If I am wrong, please correct me and I'll give some details.

It's got to be the lighting. Look again at the close-up of the pocket. It's pretty obvious in real life.

Sarge did ask for measurements of the Legend jacket not to be posted before they were released in general. I'm not sure about the situation now but he did also mentioned in another thread about not posting the specs chart on USW website.

Perhaps it maybe a good idea to post pics of you wearing that marvelous jacket, and giving your height and weight. That might give one a sense of the jacket's overall fit and style.

It's your jacket Ray, and you can measure it and post those measurements online until the cows come home! :)
To not do so as a favour to Sarge I can understand, though to suggest 'China' could care about a few basic measurements is just plain silly.
They'd be very useful for those of us still on the fence and unsure of the fit.
I'm very interested to know what they are myself.

Very, VERY nice!

Many Thanks for sharing these photos with us Ray... that's beautiful jacket!

I'm not going to lie, I would also love to see how this jacket looks on YOU (telling us your height & weight as well as the jacket's SIZE -as you have- is VERY helpful info for those who are wondering how the jacket might best fit them) ...so, hopefully one day in the not-too-distant future perhaps you can find a way to post some shots like that as well...
Hope so.
:)

In the meantime, though... congratulations on a great-looking purchase!

Yes it looks like the collar stand is incorrect on this jacket. I checked Weston's other jackets and its correct on his. I would check with wings, or maybe see if the other imports are like that. Sorry to rag on your jacket, but after all that waiting, it should be right.

Yeah. It's not just a bit wrong, it's completely wrong- which is a worry to me (given that this is supposed to be the original Cooper patern and all).

Not to my eye. On the import the collar starts right on the edge of the collar stand. On Westons it appears to start a distance back as it should

We'd know better once we see the import being worn.

We're comparing apples to oranges in trying to make judgements based on one being worn on a human figure vs. one just hanging on a hanger.

I'm not trying to be difficult but you can clearly see the collar and stand are level on the import. Unless I'm going blind that is

Hanging on a hanger, yep, I can see that.

We both also know that the nuances change dramatically when one is worn on the human form and when trying to compare to one just hanging on a hanger.

I recall discussion after discussion over the years of Wested/Nowak/G&B/Wings jackets in comparing stuff like this, only to see most of those observations recanted when either someone finally posted apples to apples comparison photos and/or pulled out a tape measure to PROVE those obversations were incorrect.

One thing I DO see that's been under discussion that is definitely different is they used the x-box stitch on the back of the import vs. the US made version.

Lol, well we'll agree to differ then Mark. The second picture posted, the close up of the collar, clearly shows the collar and stand configuration. I'm standing here looking at my Magnoli on a hanger in front of me and it is totally clear that the collar and stand do not line up like that. Hopefully it's just a glitch on this one import.

Its wrong. Sorry, but it is. This pic shows it much better then the other.

You can clearly see the collar stand ends at the collar, and doesn't extend to the stormflap like it should here:

Image

Hopefully its just this one off. If it was me, after spending the $$$ I'd want it exchanged, unless you are ok with it.

However, it does appear to have the LC style stormflap/colar stand configuration. :-k
Could this possibly be a prototype?

Very shiny leather....similar to the glaze on new G&B jackets.

I wish it had more of a matte finish.

I had this jacket made for myself and it was new and never worn but what I wanted !! Until I received a phone call from this person saying that He sure would love to be a member of COW and heard a lot of Good things about us.. Now the story goes on.. Ray also said he would love to have a Legend Import for His birthday.. he had me when He said that he wanted to be one of us... Guess I should have told Him that My Legend was custom made for me and it was not SA and we had sold out of all Striated Lambskin USA and Imports.. But some where along the way I frankly don't remember saying the Import Striated Lambskin was SA.. Aged Cow yes USA Striated Lambskin yes... Ray you will enjoy wearing this Legend jacket for many years to come For it was custom made for me and You are now a new COW member !

Really not sure how that story makes me feel. I was the first one to say I wanted a Cooper Raiders in the original thread. I AMan Indy Gear Member, I Was "on the list" and confirmed in several emails with Myke and waiting patiently for when to send in the funds...super excited to get it for the super COW price of $195...

and whoosh...they're all gone.

Glad you got a super one made special for Sarge, but at the same time I'm sad that I don't have one of the production imports. ](*,)

Looking at it again now that I'm home I do see some differences, but it looks like Sarge explained that. I'd really like to see how it fits you! Like I've said before, my imported cowhide is roomier than the US made.

No problem.. We are having more made! Our next shipment will go out the 21st of Dec. Our Striated Lambskin Import is being made along with our USA Stiated Lambskin by Roz Schott NYC! There is an old saying.. I would give the shirt off my back if need be.. Leadership is by example! and as the owner I can make a lot of things happen within reason... Now with that said ....
I wanted My Imports to have a little extra room because they are being sold on the world Market where our USA Legends are sold more so here in the USA that really want more of a Neil Cooper Pattern from the Raiders Jacket! What I like about the US Wings Line is that we offer so many decisions and choices.. No we are not a custom made shop nor do we want to be.. But we sure love the Hobby and will still be here when most have come and gone.

Ahh, I thought that jacket looked like the Antiqued Cowhide you modeled for us Sarge.
For the record, I like that type of collar stand/storm flap config.

However, will the ones for sale will have the correct Raiders collar stand?
Although I know that the imports will not be completely SA (what with the inner facings and what not), but I would still like my jacket if it was CLOSE to SA. ;)

The explanation is helpful thanks. Big 'however' though.... The whole point of the legend over other Wings offerings is that it's pattern was much more SA.... I mean to say , the write up on the Wings site makes great play of the pedigree of the cooper pattern. If this is a one off and other jackets will not be like this then great. You know what a bunch of detail nerds we are here though Sarge! It's the small stuff like this that makes or breaks it for people. :)

Oh I fully understand.. All of our Indy -Style Jackets made outside of the USA have leather next to the lining before the zipper.. There is a reason for that in the world market.. The Raiders pattern had no such leather but every indy jacket made there after had that leather.. There was a major reason for the faceing.. US Military A-2 Jackets have no faceing But the G-1 Navy-USMC and USCG does have a faceing.. I think some where last summer I said in writting on COW that the Imports would have a faceing and they do.. Are they the Neil Cooper Raiders Pattern yes they are.... are they what is called SA no.. Are the Roz Schott Legend Jackets SA.. I think so and I do remember saying that we would do the best we could But No we will not make a custom jacket and offer it to our customers for over $ 1,000. I want happy customers and that is why I make thousands of Jackets a month.. Not one or two Jackets a week... Now back to work!!
