Raiders confusion?

Post by IndianaFist »

I was under the impression that the storm flaps (thats the top of the pockets right?) didnt have any snaps on them for Raiders. Yet in this picture (sorry Dr. J Im dropping a link to your pic file, Sorry you have to sell your hat)

I can clearly see the snap on the right pocket?

I always thought the storm flap was that long and narrow piece of leather over the zipper. The Raiders jacket doesn't have snaps at the top and bottom, many jackets do, and I believe, at least the LC does, and I believe the TOD also.

I have a Raiders and the pockets have snaps and the piece of leather over the zipper does not.

No you're right, the storm flap is the strip of leather over the zipper. It's there to protect the zipper from water when it rains, or more appropriately when it storms :D . The leather above the pockets are pocket flaps and they've always have had snaps.

In addition, the STORM FLAP on the Raiders jacket did not have press studs (snaps) on top or bottom
but I thought both the TOD and LC coats do.

Wested offers them as an option on the Raiders model as does FS.

I think that only the Last Crusade jacket had press studs. RotLA and ToD did not. A quick check of the Wested web site confirms this. I bought my ToD 4 years ago and it had none.
    Just my $0.02.

Just a suggestion for those ordering a TOD or LC jacket. You might want to specify that they sew the snaps into the storm flap, the same way they sew them into the flap over the side pockets.

While it doesn't bother me enough to send the jacket back, the next time I order a Wested I'd much rather there be no visible snaps on the outside of the storm flap.

The coat I have now is a A-2 style. In the picture I have the fabric cuffs tucked up into the sleeves and im strategically holding my whip to cover the fabric around the bottom of the coat! :D I hope to order a Raiders wested in about a month! IN GOAT!!!!!!!

Just ask for hidden press studs and that's what you'll get. I did this on
my Raiders jacket to maintain a more screen accurate appearance while
preventing those 40 mph winds from getting in.
