I'm saving for a Black Cherry hat...unfortunately, I just bought another custom hat right before John made the announcement. D'oh!

Just an FYI. Black cherry is the color that most was calling ox blood red.

New hats go out all the time but few have posted them.

I know Art has his "black cherry," but he was saying that was exclusive to him. Is this a slightly different formulation? Or is this the felt Optimo uses as "Ox Blood?"

Funny how things get mixed up over at the FL. Black cherry is a standard color now at my felter. It looks very much like the public enemy hat color. The reason I had such a hard time is I was looking for ox blood and ox blood isn't that dark. To be clear. Ox blood isn't the color of the public enemy hat. It's black cherry. The next time squidkidd gets over here at the shop. I'll have him take a shot of it for everyone to see.

Wait just a minute. You have a black hat with the vintage maroonish ribbon? Correct? It's very much like that color.

Yup, that's me, black with maroon. Well, when I get the funds together, I'm gonna want a black cherry hat of some sort. I saw the swatch on facebook and it looks really nice.

Yes, that's the hat I was thinking of. That's a vintage ribbon that I have about a roll left. It matches up perfectly with the black cherry aka public enemy color.

I'm glade to see that the water repellant is still working on that hat. Look how the water is beading on the brim.

Thanks John! You took my half-tailed attempt at a re-block and make it a good hat again!

This is a Beaver Brand "Legacy" Felt, purchased from Lee Keppler back in February 2008. After I tried to shape it up in late-2009, early-2010 with a homemade block, I was never happy with it. I got it in before John's cutoff on off-brand re-blocks and I'm glad I did.

Fit is wonderful, look is great.

The (new again) hat:

Just an FYI. Even a round oval can have a brim with the Raiders swoop/turn.

Looks good on you. Looks like the front pinch came out just a tad but oval all, it held up very well on it trip.

Okay....Whilst the Scottish Texan is away :Plymouth: , I'm posting some sneaky shots of my latest Penman acquisition, an LC in Beaver. I actually got this a few months back, but I've been kind of waiting to get some decent shots but since winter started it always dark, etc, etc, blah, blah..... ;)

So, I've taken some dodgy arms-length shots because I didn't want to wait any longer to spread the joy. ;)

Needless to say, I'm absolutely over the moon with this. It's become my main lid, and it fits like a suction cup....Perfect!!!

Cheers John, yet another awesome lid and a very happy chappy!!!   :D :D

Since we're in a sharing mood, I thought I'd post a couple of shots of my Penman Raider That I got back in August. It's settling in rather nicely.

Hello everyone. Thought I would post some shots of what my Penman rabbit Raiders currently looks like. I received it back in August of this year and have worn it everyday with the exception of the weekends. It's been rained on once and the felt has really loosened up, has become softer and the creases have finally settled in quite nicely. Sorry for the poor shots.

Yep... I'm with jlee:

You might not have lit that hat from all sides (in an effort to illuminate every part of the hat for inspection), but duuude... the hat just looks flat-out gorgeous in these shots! :notworthy:
For my money, I always love seeing how shadow plays off one part of a wonderful (Penman) fedora just as much as I love seeing how the light makes it "beam" with beauty from the opposite side...
Light & shadow just makes the contours, grooves and character of these hats just jump out at you!

NICELY done!

Thanks Mitch! Now that the state of MinneSNOWta is in full winter mode- I will be wearing a fedora each and every time I venture out into the snow. Recently though, every time it rains or snows I tend to reach for my Penman Raiders in beaver! That hat is just sooo tough! I have not babied that thing at all and it still looks brand new! I have SOAKED it in near monsoon conditions! It has collected nearly 2 inches of snow on it several times over and it looks almost like the day I got it! I LOVE THAT HAT!

This was probably from one of John's first Raiders blocks... so he has changed it a lot since then. So I can't really compare it to my brown Raiders, as that is probably from his latest block.
