My New Nowak CS

Post by Forrest For the Trees »

Hey Indy Fans, I've been wanting to post some photos for a couple weeks. Just finally got a chance. I bought jnicktem's Nowak CS jacket not too long ago. I can't thank you enough, Nick. It really is a perfect fit! I've spent some time breaking it in by getting it a bit soaked and molding the sleeves and collar a bit. Worked wonders. Here a couple pictures to hold you all over...

http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac20 ... wakCS2.jpg

http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac20 ... wakCS3.jpg

I was saving up for an Aero jacket, but when I saw Nick's ad for the Nowak, and saw that it was EXACTLY my size, I couldn't help buying it. It is bittersweet since Tony is no longer around. And now with Riley's announcement that Nowak Originals will be closing up shop for good, I figured it was now or never. I will be wearing this jacket a lot, and I am trying not to think about the fact that it is irreplaceable.

Cheers,
Forrest

Oh, I know, more pics indeed! Thanks for the comments so far. It is an awesome jacket, and I feel very lucky to own it. I'll get some shot of the back when I can. My girl doesn't even know I bought this jacket yet :#: , so I have to be pretty selective about when I break it out and take some photos! I'm not one for keeping secrets, but with five brown leather jackets already in the closet, well I'm not thinking she'll be as excited as I am about this one :- .

I'm thinking the next time we go out, and the weather is cool enough, I'll just slip this jacket on and act like it is no big deal. She'll say, "Is that a new leather jacket?!" I'll say yes, and ask her what she thinks. She will roll her eyes and tell me I'm nuts, and then admit that it is really a nice jacket.

My only concern is she will see the inscription in the liner and start to wonder just how much I spent on this thing! The inscription will also identify me as a total nerd, but she already knew that!

Thanks, guys. Yeah, Michael, it does fit like it was made for me. Pretty amazing, considering it has two previous owners! The jacket was made for someone with a 42 inch chest, from my understanding, but I am a 38, usually wear slim 40R. When Nick posted the jacket for sale, the measurements matched exactly what I would have ordered for a custom fit.

I really lucked out!

Nonsense! Walk in the room with a smirk, throw it on the couch and proudly say:

"CHECK out what the MAN of this house just bought!" I am MAN, I'm the king. Now what's for lunch?

It's worked for me, and it will be 20 years in a few weeks. Nice find on the jacket. If my suggestion doesn't work, it wasn't meant to be. Women are a dime a dozen, but a Nowak Jacket, now those are rare!

Yeah, probably the best thing that came out of the 4th Indy movie! That's how I think of it, anyway. It was a terrible movie that probably never should have been made (IMO), or at least it should have been made about 12 years earlier. But at least many of us got to know Tony because of the film and he offered to us some of the best jackets ever produced. And let's not forget about Adventurebilt.

I never understood the asking permission thing myself. My wife doesn't ask me for permission for anything and she doesn't expect me to ask permission either. We do expect each other to act like adults and be responsible. I married my wife not my mother.

It isn't a matter of asking permission. It's my money and I can spend it how I want. She's okay with that. It's just that, well, it may be time for a new couch, but I bought a leather jacket instead!

That is perfect!!! It's like a jacket in search of the right body and it found you. Great job connecting up on this. It really does look like you were the person Tony made it for.

But if you need any explanation, it is a "used" jacket after all. ;)

Wasn't really directed at you. It was a response to flyderf. I have read in the past about sneaking it past the wife or girlfriend or asking permission and it strikes me funny that's all. When I read flyderf, it really got a laugh out of me. I wasn't really thinking about your post.

There is no way I could buy more jackets than my wires shoes or any of her clothing. She tells me to go out and shop for new clothing because I hat shopping. When she see something like a new jacket. She always say " great, glade to see you get yourself something for a change."

I had contacted Nick about the measurements, but you were quicker on the draw. Good for you since I don't think it would fit me correctly. Great looking jacket! Looks 100% better on you than it did on Nick (not saying anything he didn't himself).

After seeing your photos, it makes me kind of wonder why you are keeping the other 4 now. :-k ;)

VERY nice jacket. You may want to seriously think about selling at least 2 of your extras, and keep your second favorite as a back up jacket. That one just looks perfect. I don't see how you could possibily improve on another jacket now. :M:

Wow... high praise coming from you guys. Thanks everyone.

Michaelson, I know what you mean. I will most definitely be selling two or three jackets soon, so check the Bazaar once the time comes!

Nick is definitely much bigger than me (broader chest, and about three inches taller), as was the owner previous to him as well, so I think the jacket was originally made too small. Seriously, when he posted the measurements, my jaw kind of dropped. It is rare to find something exactly as you would have ordered for a custom. Added bonus: the liner inscription was not personalized, so I'm not wearing around someone else's name. I hesitated for a few weeks, until Nick lowered the price (again!). I really can't thank him enough, because even though it is still a lot of money for a jacket, I know I got a really good deal on it.

I'll post some more shots, particularly the back of the jacket, as soon as I get the chance (ie: tell my girlfriend/fiancee!!).

I've just spent a little bit of time comparing the Nowak to my other jackets. It looks like I will be letting go of all my jackets except for the Nowak (of course) and my original dark brown Wested lamb. I just have no reason to wear the others any more. I'll have to spend some time photographing the jackets and getting them listed here, maybe this coming weekend. With Halloween coming, it is probably a perfect time to sell.

Agreed. If you're not just into the collecting of jackets, you'll just be irritated at having them hang there not being used by someone. You may as well divest them and keep the Nowak and a good back up for either warmer seasons (like your lambskin), or in case your Nowak is out for repair.

I think you're choosing wisely...and as an added bonus, will more than likely make your gal smile too at the fact you ARE moving things in and out of your collection. Anything you do in the future will only be for trading stock.

Win/win! ;)

Ah, you noticed the books! My other obsession. When we moved to Texas three years ago, I swear 80% of our boxes were books. I collect signed/modern firsts of novels I particularly like and illustrated children's literature from 1860's on up, among other things. And art and photography books, and... well I could keep going.

As to her obsessions, yes shoes are among them, but I have to say she shows far more restraint than I do (at least since I've gotten a decent paying job and I'm not in grad school anymore).

I'm looking forward to posting more photos of the jacket, hopefully this coming weekend.

I know I'm late to this thread and I apologise. First, I am VERY glad the jacket fits you so well! I agree with everyone else... it looks like this was made for you in mind! Even though I loved this jacket, I never felt comfortable wearing it. Sure... I could wear it... but it never fit me very well. I felt awkward whenever I put it on... and that's just not how it should be.

Just before I put that jacket up for sale, I found another Nowak CS for sale in Harrison Fords size. By comparing the measurements of both jackets I determined that this other jacket will fit me MUCH better! So I bought it, and sold this one to make up some of the money I spent.

When my new jacket arrived, I was ecstatic with the fit! It fit me exactly how it should fit me! Like this jacket was MADE for me! I guess me and Harrison Ford have the same jacket size.

I wasn't able to get better pictures taken. I just spent some time in the hospital and since then everyone else has gotten back to their everyday lives. So I did the best that I could.

Hey, that's a great looking jacket. Love the look of the leather. I'm going to assume that's cowhide b/c (A) it sure looks like it and (B) it's a CS jacket. Great fit. I was always partial to the LC jacket, but that CS is really, really nice.

As an aside, and you guys may think I'm nuts for asking this, but does anyone else think there is a strong resemblance between the cowhide CS and the cowhide HERO as made by US Wings? Specifically, I'm looking at pocket placement (though I think the US Wings pockets are placed a little further back), pocket size, sleeve length, storm flap width and the collar. As soon as I saw the picture I thought that it looked like a custom made HERO, and I mean that as a compliment as I love my HERO jacket.

Edit: I meant to say that's a great looking jacket on both of you! Both fits are excellent, and yeah, agree or disagree, I see a lot of the HERO in those jackets.
