My new jacket....

Post by Gorak »

First off I have to say, I LOVE THIS JACKET!!!! It fits too short on me, has something alittle wierd going with the sleeves, and is actually kinda falling apart but it is just so darn Raiders to me.
(Please remember that this is all strickly my opinion.....)
With my funds being zero, the good Lord blessed me with an oppotunity to do some trading. And I am really glad I did....this jacket just screams Raiders to me. Very much the Peruvian Jungle look.
Cowhide.
Very soft.
Feels as light weight as Todd`s Standard Lambskin.
Zipper on left side.
Pockets are 6 x 7.
1 3/4 wind flap.
Size 40.
There are closeups, actions shots and flat shots...enjoy........

No way! That jacket is not too short, has the perfect Raiders vibe front and back length and overall! Looks awesome. The sleeves are a tad short on you, but you can't really tell too bad.

This pic here http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h304/ ... 093732.jpg reminds me of this image from Raiders:

I think the length is good. Indy's twills ride up a little higher than today's jeans and modern cut slacks. Lower riding pants make the jacket seem shorter to me, especially in the back.

You've got a fantastic jacket there! Is that a Todd's custom in calfskin?

Great shots Gorak! The back length of the jacket looks perfect but I think you couls use a little more length in the sleeves.

Does look like a custom in either cowhide or calfskin? Zip looks like a heavier gague than the Std. Better hold on ta' that one with both hands! Good find there! ;)

Thanks for looking guys. Your comments are appreciated.
To those who asked, yes it is a Todd`s Custom in cowhide. The sleeves feel alittle more stiff than the rest of the jacket as if it is made out of a different hide but the grain and color match perfect so I think its just my imagination. Plus they are not as snug as my Todd`s Standard. This could have been some of the customazation, I don`t know.
Someone here referred to the authentic jacket as "wonky" and I gotta say, this one fits that perfectly. It is very shabbily made for the price I was told was paid for it. (I will let the original owner divulge that info if he so cares to). My wife`s first comment when she saw it on me was,"That looks cheap!" There is half hazard stitching in several places and the worse is that when I put my hands into the handwarmer pockets, I can easily reach up and out of the top of the cargo pockets. And it doesn`t appear to be from wear and tear....from what I can feel, it seems to be a clean cut, as if it just fell out of the lining. BUT that`s what I imagine the real film jacket to be. Those in the know described it as a "piece of _____" yet it still looked good to us in the movie.
Now I`m not saying Todd`s stuff is a piece of anything. I love Todd`s products and own several items including a Standard Lambskin. It is decently made (the lining in pockets fell out the first time I put my hands in) but looks, fits, and feels fantastic as this cowhide does.

Tomek -The sleeves measure out at 23 1/2 inches where as I am 5'9 and my regular sleeve length is 25.
_-I appreciate the comments coming from you and the other "jacket guru`s". I am more of a Fedora lurker but I`ve been around long enough to know that you guys know what your talking about.
I am really happy with this jacket and plan to take more set-up photos in better locals with full gear. Again, thanks alot for stopping by and checking out my post to everyone. This place rocks!!!

The restate a point about these jackets, jmo but I think that the best Raiders jackets I have seen fit like a younger man's jacket, sort of a cross between an A-2 and a motorcycle jacket, and this one sort of reinforces that aspect. This differs slightly from the movie, as his jacket was not quite as form fitting as we may like today. The LC jacket is a bit more relaxed, more of a mature man's jacket, with a larger collar, storm flap, yoke, and possibly the pockets.

MARQ- Get yourself a Todd`s. I think it a Standard should be a standard in every COW member`s closet. A- we will be supporting one of our own, and, two :[ it is very SA , if not the most,to Raiders of the Lost Ark. For the money, it is really a great buy.

TEXAS SCOTT- I get exactly what your saying. I have aWested washed goat which is suppose to be Raiders(but the sidestraps are way to low) and it has all those features you described on an older man`s jacket and, yes, that`s exactly what vibe it gives off when I wear it. More mature, dressier, I feel awkward if the rest of my clothes are scruffy. With this particular Todd`s, I feel like I can wear anything scruffy and get away with it. Like if the jacket can actually dress it up. I`ve heard you guys describe some of your jackets as being an entity of their own and I think I finially understand cuz me and this Todd`s are totally syncing.

TEKORS- Yes sir, that is my old AB. It`s mt go-to hat and been thru alot. I have a thread on it somewhere with more detail on the life its led. It has been thru two make-overs (Fedora re-blocked it once and then, later, I did on my own block and tightened the ribbon and sewed the liner, ribbon, and sweatbeand all together as I put this hat thru alot and didn`t want those seperate pieces to come apart. My head is wider ear to ear so I "turned" it completely sideways before I refurbished it. You can see it on the picture where it is lying on my jacket...you can see how it is wider ear to ear..but when I put it on, my wonky head does the pulling I needed front to back to get the swoop I was after. Love this hat. Fedora makes one heck of a product that really lives up to it`s name.

Thanks alot guys

(as John Wayne)Well,I thank ya for yer support,pilgrim... :TOH: And yes,"the price compared to quality" hits the nail to the head, that´s exactly what appeals with Todd´s Jacket!! That Wested ROLA in Washed Goat don´t look too bad either. I see you don´t settle to just one jacket, apparently I´m in the minority..like I care.

Noah/Tekor: thanks...yeah the AB has definitely scratched my hat itch. The only complaint is that I am dying to see what this hat would look like as a SoC hat. Right now I feel it has more of a Well of Souls thing going. That was one of the reasons I wore the beejesus out of the thing. I thought it would distress into my fav look, SoC, but this beaver from Steve is amazing and just won't give!

Marq: I really wanted to be a one jacket kinda guy but all these awesome vendors with their screen accurate, quality, this is new leather bits are killing me. Man, I gotta stay outa the Cairo Bizzare. I grit my teeth when I log on and see the "Check out my new gear" threads..haha

Mitch: thanks so much for your comments....you, my friend, are the Godfather of Picture Contribution! The standard by which all others should follow. I am always looking to see if someone will revive the"Jonesing" thread you had created as those were always some of my favorites ever. I love seeing members gear but it is always much more fun when they do it in action poses like alot of yours. I think it helps us see the gear in the way we really see it on film as Indy is never really posing straight on or standing still for the camera. I know its not everyones cup of tea so its fun when it is available. So when I take shots, I try to include some action poses thinking,"This is what Mitch Larue might do!"
