I agree Kwad, the antique cow underneath the card and the bison sample didn't look washed out at all. But I love the texture of the bison. Hope it works out for those who do purchase the jackets.

As far as I can tell, calf isn't an option on the website now. How does bison compare to the others with weight and warmth? Is it more like horse or cow or goat?

From what I've been told, and read, bison hide is equal to or just a hair above horsehide in tensile strength. Like all leathers depending on hide thickness, can be the same in thickness as goatskin or as heavy as armor. Depends on the tannery and hides chosen.

I've seen and examined bison hide jackets at high end outdoors shops that were as thick as could be, or equal to the goatskin jacket I was wearing at the time.

It's hard to tell from just looking at these photos exactly what they're offering, but I'd guess equal to goatskin or thin cowhide in terms of thickness.

Can't post what hasn't been sent. Though isn't Weston's a calf? I know it was stated that along with the Striated Lamb his would be shown at the unveiling.

That's what I thought, that Weston's was cowhide and not the top secret calf-skin that many of us (myself included) were quick to get on the list for.

waiting with much hope and anticipation [-o<

if they opted to not go with the calf, i think i'll have to go for the st. lamb :-k

Fyi, on USW's site there is now a $200 difference for the SL (actually all Legend hides) between US made and imported, with the US made the more expensive one.

EDIT: To add link for Legend and new pricing

For a $600 price tag, I'm thinking of going with a Todd's in bison instead for $500. Then I at least get custom length and sleeves... I've emailed them asking about the thickness and warmth.

This is a Orvis ''flight'' jacket cut in the what lookes to be spot on to the bison sample above from wings. Im absolutely digging the grain on both the sample and the jacket picture. Im still a bit on the fence when it comes to the color..( I know, I know, must see it in person first) but the grain? wow!

Holt, I just gotta say that I'm not expecting the Wings jacket in Bison to be a screen accurate color. The color of that jacket you posted is about what I'm expecting, and I gotta say, I think it rocks. If you think about it, there's so much more to the indy jacket than the color (including the fact that it was NOT bison hide,) so if you're really liking the grain and the leather overall, and you got the money, get the jacket. I don't think you'll regret it, especially not due to color. I mean, would you really walk around feeling awkward because the beautiful, well crafted bison hide jacket on your back isn't a Raiders screen accurate dark brown color? I sure wouldn't. Now, if you're going for screen accuracy, and you have a jacket in mind, and you're considering switching to this instead, then that might be different. But if you're just falling in love with the leather and are considering getting one because of it, then go for it, man. Or get a Todd's custom in bison

I was looking at the Bison photos again just to figure out if I wanted to switch, and it occurred to me that that Bison grain is really really really close to the grain of Tony's Nowak Goat.

Sarge was really excited about the bison leather when I spoke to him last week. He encouraged me to choose that leather for my Legend jacket. I chose the antique cow leather instead as I prefer the color of it and know how durable it is. If the Bison leather was darker in color I would be =P~ all over myself. The grain is exceptional but the color isn't quite what I am looking for.

Scot, I fully agree. It's beautiful leather but for me, a Raider's jacket has to be dark.

Okay.. What if... What if I send Roz Schott a E-Mail tonight and ask Her if she can make the Bison a seal Brown ? Now this is a fact.. Roz and I have been partners ever since I retired from the Army and Her Family and I are very close Friends.. I have a feeling She would say yes!! The only reason she went with the med Brown is.. Go to Orvis and Yep you will see a Schott Jacket... We of course had to put the Med Brown under the UK line!! Now what say you.. Do you want a seal brown or not? Just think.. How many Fan Clubs has their own factory in their own hip pocket?
Sarge
BTW we can always offer two.. Med. Brown and Seal Brown.. Why not? It is only Money!

I would love to see a Bison jacket in a seal brown. The texture of the bison looks AMAZING! I would be all over a seal brown legend...then I could use the Hero for my LC jacket. Thanks for inquiring with Roz about getting the Bison done in seal. It really is amazing how generous you are with the members of COW. :TOH:

I think that Bison is going to be out of this world in either color. I definitely think more Indy fans would prefer the seal brown. I just want to see this jacket in either color! How cool would it be to have a Raiders jacket made out of Buffalo?

As a test I had a very soft Seal Brown Horse hide indy Jacket made over a month ago just to see how it looks and feels..I love the way if feels and looks! It is not SA but made with the Raiders body and arms... Being in the business We can do just about anything and I may give this one to Travis to see what He thinks about the leather....Plus I have another Striated Lamb I found we may use for Our Import Raiders !BTW I placed the call to Roz about the seal brown Bison Raiders. With that said this is our season and I must get the orders I have on file out to my Friends at COW ASAP.

Seal brown bison... wow. Every bison I've held is wonderfully drapey but also tough. I've never seen any in a dark, Raiders type color. Fantastic!

I have to say I agree with the thoughts on the bison-that was the hide I chose for my Legend, and I was stoked THEN about the mid-brown...I like a little color variety! But I can't see the seal brown bison not doing exceptionally well, either!

Yeah, _-it IS good, isn't it? ;)

Hello Fans.. Tomorrow Brittany is getting Married and My Day has been a full day to say the least but I still have time for My Friends!
Today Roz sent me a 100 % Neil Cooper Raiders Pattern I sent her.. Travis has the Striated Lamb made of this Pattern... Now we have a Cow made from the same Tannery that supplied the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull But Roz and I made this leather one shade darker.. We will make 100 and see what happens from there.
I also placed an order for 2,200 Hero Cow Leather 1.1MM Import leather because as of Nov. 1,2010 all Leather Worldwide will have a price increase of 20 % plus all Cotton i.e. zippers and so on.. I have been talking about this for Months.. Now it is the real world.. I want to make sure I can keep my price and help my friends. No less.. no more.
I like everyone around the world have found leather outside the USA happens to be as good or better.. it all depends in the Tannery.
To this date I have not found a Calfskin I like nor will I make a jacket out of a leather that some may think is the leather..If My Partner Roz Schott tells me that She does not like what is on the Market so be it.. There is no better person in the Business as Roz Schott and that is a stone fact and any and every person that is in the business knows that as a fact..
Decisions and Choices.

Sarge,

The seal brown bison looks great. Any idea when we may be able to see a jacket made out of it? My trigger finger is getting itchy, but I'd like to see a finished jacket first! :TOH:

Sorry.. That is not Bison...That is our 1.1 MM Cow that the Raiders Legend is being made from! This leather is also Hand Aged like our Hero Naked Cow But a better leather if that is possable!
The Bison should be out in 6 weeks and if you would care to see a True Roz Schott Bison go to Orvis UK and there is a G-2 made out Wisconsin Bison ! We will also make a Dark Seal Brown Bison into our Raiders Legend.. That will come out in the next 90 to 120 days.
BTW Just a heads up for all the Fans worldwide! There will be a major price increase in all Leather Jackets.. From what I understand up to 20%.. US Wings Inc. will not have a price increase this year and we will still offer our Friends at COW a major discount.

Oops!

Sorry about that guys, I got it wrong. I'll pull the picture. I'd guess better have someone check me before I leave that house to make sure I've got my pants on.
