I have a DeArmond. Its a great guitar. But my Gibson Les Paul is still the favorite, hands down. And hooked up to my new Blackstar, that baby just sings.

Graeme, that hat really suits you. I love the crease on it too. It isn't TOO tight of a pinch and it really only at the top. My Raiders hat has a similar crease. Congrats.

Great looking hat, Graeme!

Another fantastic job done by John. Can't wait to see some sunny outdoor shots of you wearing it. That's when the hat looks absolutely best because the light really accentuates the beautiful creases.

I really do love this hat and my crappy pics don't do it justice by half. Thanks for the compliments guys but all the praise goes to the very skillful "young" man Mr Penman who crafted this fine work of art!

As much as I'm a big fan of the fedora in general, I'm always even more interested in how it looks on someone's head... there can be a world of difference there sometimes (although, with John's hats, it's usually just TWO kindsa wonderful)

Sorry dudes, but I've been hoggin' a new LC Penman and a Henry re-block, but I haven't taken any shots yet.

. Just been plain lazy I guess.

I wanted to take some proper shots and not just some where I hold the camera at arms length.

It's on my 'to do' list.

Yeah, I have one of those rare pre-lawsuit era (70-75) Ibanez Les Pauls. But my baby is the Gibson Les Paul Standard I bought in 2005, before Gibson sold itself out and lost their minds. There is a picture of it a few pages back. To me, nothing completes a Gibson Les Paul like a nice fedora. I wear my charcoal Penman to every show. I'm contemplating my next one for the stage. Probably a wine colored Penman with black ribbon.

I've never met a pre-lawsuit Ibby I didn't love. Many of them were better made then the guitars they were copying at the time. (i.e. Gibson loosing their mind....you mean you didn't like the "Hendrix" Strat they were going to marked, then pulled?)

If John is able to get that Oxblood color I'd take that over the wine but he has tried before to no avail. Unless he has an ace in the hole he hasn't told us about yet. But I would love a dark, crimson red with a 2'' black ribbon on it. I'll get around to ordering it soon enough. Hopefully early next year.

As for the LP, the Ibanez is a black Custom that had a cool custom finish job done with a gold foil look and the Gibson is a lemonburst Standardwith a beautiful AAA figured top. I think there is a picture of it few pages back along with the Ibby.

I was about to say the same thing John! After seeing both, I think that black cherry is a nicer color than the oxblood as well as being the color for the public enemies fedora. Good to know you have this color. All you need is an underwelt on that bad boy (I often wonder why we Indy fans shy away from brim treatments...

), and that would be a smoking hot lid!!!

I think its because they are too flashy for me. I can get into an underwelt on certain hats but the only brim treatment I like is the Cavanagh Edge. I've got two hats with Cavanagh Edge treatment and it is just superb. I wish we could still get this done today. I'd be all over it.

And no, Travis, I ain't right.

I agree with that, but I do like a thin bound brim and think it doesn't look flashy if the ribbon matches the felt. My Granddad was a moonshiner, and he used to wear an open-road style like that. Very Americana working man and not flashy at all!

I can't remember the last time I posted a pic of my Penman Raiders beaver. Here are some shots off my phone today.

This hat has become so floppy it is unbelievable. And all I've done with this hat is wear it. I just plop it on my head and go. It is one of my "go to" hats. This, my charcoal Penman, and my sahara AB have become my most worn hats.

fuzzjunk, that hat looks great, man. And more importantly, it looks great on you! I love the color of that hat. I don't think I've ever seen a Raiders hat with a more mellow brown right outta the box. That will fade to a beautiful light brown in a few years. Wear it in good health.

Enclosed is a post from Fedora that I am quoting:

"You know, with the Raiders hat, some pics show it to be only a 5 inch open crown hat, and if you use the ribbon to determine the height of the creased hat, it appears to be under 5 inches tall on the sides, probably closer to 4 3/4. Even some of the LC hats look to be taller, to me than some of the Raiders hats.

I wonder if some of the Raider fedoras in the film lost crown height in the heat? That would explain it. But even then, I just don't think today that the Raiders fedora was 5 1/2 open crown. I think the tallest of the Raiders hats was 5 1/4 open crown MAX, with some at 5 inches open crown. I say this because I can make a hat with a 5 inch open crown height, and I can get the 4 1/2 front, 3 3/4 back and 4 3/4 on the sides which looks to be more accurate to most of the film hats. Everything seems to fall into place using the shorter crown heights. But being used to taller hats, would take some time to get used to a shorter fedora. I know one thing, making a shorter hat would sure add more stability to the future shrinkage, and I doubt you would see as much early taper with a shorter hat.

This crown height issue has bothered me for awhile now. Especially since comparing the CS height to the Raiders height. The CS was definetely taller, going by the films. Funny that they first chose the shorter hat, then Steven picked the taller! And Harrison was involved in picking the shorter, I think. With more brim to boot than the taller. Yet the crown height on the hat they had in hand from another film was almost 5 1/2. Odd. But that was at the tallest point on top of the crown, and it was a pointy crown, with most of the top crown being well below 5 1/2.

I think the truth of the matter is, the Raiders hat was just not as tall as I thought. Well, customers can specify crown heights on new hats. Perhaps I just need to leave that up to them! Then, I can't go wrong!"

We have become accustomed to Steve, Marc & John posting in this forum, but I want you to know this is a unique time in this hobby.
