Help! Lost weight now my AB doesn't fit!
Here's the deal. I made a conscious effort to lose weight and get into better shape. Well, I've lost 30 lbs between mid-July and the beginning of September and have kept it off with no problems (in fact, I've even lost a little more). But, here's the rub. I knew going into this that I would not fit in to my clothes any more; that they would be too big. This includes the USW AC Hero I got back in June...dang it. But, I never though that my AB wouldn't fit any more. I went to put it on a few days ago and it nearly fell down around my ears. Now, it has always been a little loose, but not this much. Is it possible to actually make your head smaller by losing weight, enough to wear a hat is WAY too big? I've always been told I had a fat head, but I didn't take it literally. Any advice other than get a new one (this is one of Steve's first) or send it off for a re-block. I'm not even sure Steve can make it small enough to fit. It is much bigger than before and it is the only Indy style hat I own that I like.
Re: Help! Lost weight now my AB doesn't fit!
I can give you a big affirmative on that. Between January and now, I've lost 85 lbs. My head size changed from 22 7/8-23 to 22 1/4-22 3/8. I had to send my two ABs back to Steve for resizing. Just got them back a couple of weeks ago. It also affected the PB straw that I ordered back in April. It does the same thing your AB does. I bought another one from a member here that fits much better. Good luck!

Did you get thin hair? I mean, who wants fat hair?
Getting a haircut can make a difference, but I'm not sure how much your head "shrinks" if you lose a significant amount of weight.

And in the spirit of Christmas I'd be more than happy to be your secret Santa and end your problem
Re: Help! Lost weight now my AB doesn't fit!
Honestly, your best bet would probably be to contact Steve to see if he could resize it for you. I had him resize mine and it fits perfectly now. Granted mine was only a size larger than it needed to be.

When you loose weight, you loose all over. It may seem like you have lost in one area but you really loose everywhere.

Oh, trust me I can attest to that. My fingers are so thin now that my wedding ring falls off all the time on its own. It just slides right off. Before it felt like it was a cutting off the circulation.BendingOak wrote:When you loose weight, you loose all over. It may seem like you have lost in one area but you really loose everywhere.
I may have to contact Steve to see what can be done. But, it is a significant size difference now.
Bink, according to my barber my hair did lose weight, too. At least I think that's what he meant when he said, "The hair on the back of your head seems to be getting thinner."

That would imply that there was enough of a brain to shrink.

well band director, let me say first: congratulations for your loss of weight. finding yourself with a bunch of clothes that don't fit anymore is a fair price to pay for a healty body
now, for your hat. you lost a very good amount of lbs, so even if you grow hair and/or fin another way to make you hat fit your head again, the fedora could seems to be too big for you anyway.
try to put some tissue paper or some gauze under the sweatband. this way you should be able to fill the gap.

I've actually had some stuff under the sweatband (pretty much since I got it way back then). I did put more, but now you can tell there is extra stuff there when looking at the ribbon. I'm going to drop Steve an email and see what his turn around time for a reblock will be (though I'm sure it is long).

Re: Help! Lost weight now my AB doesn't fit!
Thanks. It was tough at first, but then I just got used to the process. It is amazing what actually exercising (strength training), cutting out junk food, and eating normal portions (not American sized portions) will do to your waist line. It took a while for me to actually realize the difference. People I haven't seen in a while (since before I lose the blubber) keep greeting be with, "Wow! You've lost a lot of weight." But, once I look at my before and after pictures, I can really see it.Bruce Wayne wrote:Well, since no one else has said it. Congrats onthe weight loss!!!

So, what kind of head measurement are you at now, as compared to when you had your AB made?

Re: Help! Lost weight now my AB doesn't fit!
Sorry I didn't get back sooner. Life has gotten in the way and this hasn't really been on my mind.
I am currently at a 22 1/4. Before I was 22 1/2 to 22 5/8. I think the AB was around 22 5/8. I always like my hats a little on the loose side because my head swells in the heat and humidity, plus it allows for changes due to hair cuts.
I did email Steve last week, but haven't heard back yet.

Re: Help! Lost weight now my AB doesn't fit!
Steve can definitely do that. He did mine from a 23 1/8 to a 22 1/4-22 3/8! Turned out great if a little looser than I prefer.

Band Director Jones,
I have no hat advice for you. But I did want to say CONGRATULATIONS on the weight loss.
That is awesome!
