in my experience - custom for greater quality and a better fit .

an of the rack is a decent jacket but the custom jackets puts them to shame. that is if they are made with attention to detail and fit requests.

I got my OTR when i went to visit Wested to get a Raiders jacket in soft goat, and Peter picked out my size (44 long) just by looking at me, and the jacket fit like a glove! I've never had such a perfectly fitted jacket! I was going with the intention of getting a custom, but after trying the jacket on i didn't need one.

I have no experience of custom, so can't say anything in terms of comparing the quality, but the quality of the OTR i have is really good!
