Right Time/Right Place = Win!

Post by ron521 »

Long story short: Fellow had this, couldn't come to terms with the left-handed zipper.

Asked to trade me for something I had. Seemed like a good deal.

In comparison with my US Wings VIP (size M), this Expedition (a 42 R) has shoulders cut just a little wider, and so the seams hang off my shoulders just a little bit, between 1/2" and one inch. The sleeves are correspondingly cut very slightly shorter, but still end up at the same place as with my US Wings, the first knuckle on my thumb.

This is admittedly a "screen accurate" look, and some of my other jackets also are cut this way, including my "go to" jacket which I've had for 27 years.

If I were physically in the G&B store, I would probably try on a 40 L, to try to get the seams right at my shoulders (and the L to get the sleeve length right).
However, this particular configuration works very well, and offers very good freedom of movement. I'm certainly not complaining.

Otherwise, well-matched pebble-grained goatskin in a very dark brown, two-piece gussets under the arms, action-pleats sewn into the lining, and all the other stuff that comes with an Expedition.

I still like my US Wings VIP jacket, and still hold it in the highest regard.

I wasn't LOOKING for another jacket, but it seemed like this poor unwanted jacket was somehow looking for me. It only seemed humane to give it a better home.

btw, that is how the raiders should fit. alittle droopy shoulders is the perfect fit for raiders. I love everything about it and how it fits!

I think it looks better on you than your VIP. Great looking jacket, hope to finalize a deal on one myself soon!

Sleeves on this Expedition are 24 1/4" from the top of the shoulder seam to the cuff, compared to 25" on my US Wings VIP.
The "droop" thing is not a big issue...just making an observation in the difference in the way it fits.
I slightly prefer the way my US Wings fits in the shoulders...but this is not a deal-breaker by any means.
There was a picture posted a while back of a member (forgotten who, sorry) wearing an Expedition while snow fell...IMHO, that was a "perfect" fit.

That fits you brilliantly. They don't always sit right on everyone but that one is a keeper, for sure.

Perhaps your thinking of the photos raider 57 posted over here? viewtopic.php?f=2&t=39771&p=562892&hili ... po#p562892

I really think your 'new' G&B suits you quite well--even in the shoulders. The droop on my Expedition is quite a bit more than this, which always looked a bit off for me. But I don't mind. ;)

Best wishes,
NS

Thank you, that's the one I had in mind...IMHO the way a jacket should fit (screen accurate or not)...

Our search for that elusive "perfect" jacket reminds me of this song by Weird Al Yankovic, about his search for the perfect girl:

Ron, that's a good looking jacket. I think the coloring is spot on for Raiders and I agree with the sizing too.
