Carpe Tergum (Seize the Hide); A cautionary tale...

Post by Hollowpond »

Just a little tale with a moral to give some jacket buying advice.

I have been looking and drooling over Magnoli's Open Road jacket. I had some ideas for some adjustments, and reading everyone's rave reviews here, I thought it would be well received by Mags...And so it was. Indy was very helpful and returned my pm's and emails very quickly (considering we are in different hemispheres ;) ). I was getting excited!!! \:D/ I was about to order, one thing remained, to sell my US Wings Antique Naked Cow (which I LOVED, but sadly the sleeves were just too short  ). I sold it and awoke Friday morning ready to place my order, being able to already feel that predistressed dark brown goat skin goodness in my hands \:D/ . Only to find that, to my horror, the jacket had gone up $100 :o  . Now I'm back to scraping pennies, and because I've sold my Wings, I'm likely to spend my winter LEATHERLESS!!!!! :o . (Now here comes the moral...) The purpose of this little story is not to malign Mags, no, no, but to just say, "Carpe Tergum!!! (seize the hide...or something like that ;) ) If you see something you want, GET IT. Don't wait!!!!

OK, we now return to our program, already in progress...

Did you talk to him about it? there might be a small chance he would honour the original price...

I don't think the cowhide is the price raiser. The cowhide has been $150 higher than the base price since before the price went up, and the lambskin was and still is $50 higher than the base price. I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed myself. I'm not in the market now, but I was really considering the open road a while back, because it's almost EVERYTHING I want in a good jacket. But I'm sure he has a good reason.

I emailed him just as soon as I saw it, to express my disappointment, NOT to whine and complain! As I said, this is NOT a bash Mags thread, he's a business man and has to do what he has to do. I wish I had known it was going up, but that is what it is. As of this moment, I have not heard back from him...

It should be noted that, as far as I can see, ONLY the Open Road went up. So those of you in the market for one of his other fine products may proceed as normal. :TOH:

Yep, I should have, "A Day Late and A Dollar Short" cross stitched onto a sampler, have it framed and put it over my fireplace!

And the sampler should be leather, of the appropriate hide and level of distressing.

Man, do I hear you there! I'd been considering an AB for the longest time, and by the time I had the funds and was ready to order, a little film called Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crytal Skull came out. Now, that order is hopelessly out of reach for me. Gotta jump on a good deal when you have the chance!

I gotta admit though, and while I don't begrudge the man raising his price, I'm kinda disappointed he hasn't replied to my email. He answered any questions I had about the possible jacket project pretty quick (like I said, considering we are in different hemispheres ;) ). I'm still beating myself up about this too! I missed the price increase by 7 hours!!!! ](*,) I went to bed at eleven that night and gazed at it longingly one last time (don't laugh, you ALL have done it too  ). By the time I got in bed I got a paypal verification saying I had sold my Wings jacket. I glanced at the balance and knew I could get the jacket in the morning. I arose sharply at 5 and the PRICE HAD INCREASED!!!!
Missed it by that much...

Regarding his replying to your email, keep in mind he lives in New Zealand, and is about 15 hours or so ahead of you timewise, so he probably hasn't SEEN your email yet.

I sent the email last friday. And I did complement him on his ability to return emails despite being in a different hemisphere. But its cool though, I have forgiven myself and him for it!lol

Understood! ;)

It's interesting to get emails from Indy dated with tomorrows date, considering he's also on the otherside of the International Date Line.
