Do my eyes deceive me? Taupe is back?
I did a search for Taupe Chinos and came up with this:http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... =ssdpb1003
Is it safe to say that LLbean Taupe is back?

Well, I'm only on my 2nd cup of coffee, but when I clicked on that link, taupe is the last color in the drop-down menu, so I don't think I'm seeing things... this is in the wrinkle resistent fabric.
And has anyone tried that "easy care fabric," what does it feel like?
Oh wait, even though it's in the list, when you add it too your shopping cart, it tells you it is not available. Go figure.
I wonder if they plan on still having it at some point, or they just haven't updated the webpage.

Here's something - the color "bark" - probably no pocket flaps, but interesting color and good price...

I just got off the phone with L.L. Bean. I talked with Susan who was very nice
She looked over her inventory for me on the computer. They just sold out of 40 waist. (DANGIT) but that had some 42 waist in stock. So if you can wear a 42 waist CALL ASAP and see what they can do about finding you the correct inseam. Remember you can trimm pants that are to long.

Re: pants
I doubt we could find as accurate of a pair of pants for this price... and sorry, to me your "pinks" dont seem accurate, too "armyish" in color.INDIANAMIKEY wrote:enough already,,,,,,,,,,find some different pants!!!!!!

The were/are both. They were officer's pants. They are now considered casual dress. They are most often worn with an English sports jacket.
Only until I got my NH pants did I understand how amazing the fabric is. The color and drape are unequaled.
There is no doubt that NH was the maker, now he is no longer selling them. Orvis has come really close. I am curious to see what Peter will offer. In my book, LLBean has been the "fed deluxe" of pants. I would hate to see them discontinue their Taupe offerings.
Just my thoughts,
Pyr.

Re: pants,,,
Sorry, but I have to disagree (or at least make a few comments) with you on a few statements.INDIANAMIKEY wrote:I wasn't referring to the pants I have,,,,,,,,the L.L. Beans aren't really THAT accurate,,,,no button flye,,,wrong material,,,,,they have a french hook flye with a zipper,,,,,,not very durable,,,they are dress pants,,,,,do you think "Indy" would wear dress pants on an adventure? Do you think Harry wore dress pants in the movies??????? nope,,,,,he wore military pants.......the L.L. Beans are only similar in color, and flap pockets,,,,,,I've found DOZENS with those similarities.........
1) The button fly - the only one that is going ot know if there is a button fly on my LL Beans are me and my wife. No one else is going to get that close.
2) The material may be the wrong color but it is very comfortable, the color is good and . . .
3) . . . they are very durable. I wore the same pair of pants to every single football game this year (12 total) and got them muddy, snagged on bus doors, fences, percussion instruments, soaking wet, had grease smeared on them, and lost a battle with a chilidog. Each time I just tossed them in the wash and they came out looking great. I don't take it easy at games. I'm the guy that crawls under the bus when a trumpet mouthpiece falls on the ground and rolls under it. I'm the one that searched under the muddy bleachers for the music that the ditzy flute player dropped. I have a few pair of wool pants that are similar in material to military and NH pants and there is no way they would have survived this football season as well. In fact, I wore these same pants today. These pants may be dressy, but they are designed to be tough . . . they are LL Beans after all.
4) Indy's pants were dress pants. Here is a quote directly off the pants page from the main site:
Also, "officer’s pinks" were not only worn in combat situations, but also as part of the dress uniform. The Indy Pants are very high end items, and are considered dress, despite our hero's knack for getting dirty.
This is just the opinion, and facts, of a guy who has field tested his LL Beans to the max and loves them.

Re: NH pants
Pyroxene,
Do I correctly understand you to be saying that Noel Howard is no longer producing nor selling the Indy pants? And if this is so, then why would his link still be on this website?

The main website is being updated. Alot of files and links, and prices are outdated. They do have many people working on new stuff (there not getting paid to do this) as for your other question. This should help.
PETER wrote:Let me tell you a story.
MBA under the leadership of Noel Howard was entitled to sell the shirt and trousers as he was involved in the production as an employee of the then Bermans and Nathan.
Bermans and Nathan have subsequently become Angels and Berman and now Angels the Costumiers.
When Bermans and Nathan was sold to Angels Noel left to form MBA but had recently run into financtial problems and had to close. However he was able to sell the business and premises to Hand and Lock a long established embroiderers.
So the situation is now that although they intend to sell the shirt and pants they have had nothing to do with the original film production and have no more rights to replicate than the likes of flighsuits or USwings.
The irony is that their xmas card sent to me has Indiana Jones on it with the claim that they made the costume and leatherwork.
Now out respect to Noel I have not produced the shirt or pants but it seems that he has sold that with ther company so I am free to act accordfingly.
I will be producing the the shirt at an estimated £35-£40 and the pants at an estimate £65-£70. in the new year with the approval of the original company Bermans and Nathan now Angels.
So to bore you
Cheers
Peter

Ohio Eric,
Welcome to the board. Yes. Noel closed his doors Sept 19, 2003. As you can imagine, there was rush to buy his stuff.
Now, Peter Botwright of Wested, has taken up the challenge of making some of the items Noel produced. Namely, the shirts and pants. They have proven the most difficult and expensive items to replicate.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Pyro.

Re: the pants & shirt
Pyroxene & Indiana Fist,
Thank you for answering those questions. I just received my original brown lambskin "Indy" jacket from Wested about a week and a half ago and my girlfriend keeps asking me if I'm ever going to take it off! This thing is superbly crafted, its as soft as butter ("s'like butta, I tell ya"), and fits me like a glove! I couldn't be happier with it.
I have long been debating whether or not to just go buy a pair of officer's "pinks" from some Army Navy Surplus store or to buy the Indy pants from Noel. I don't know why, but Noel's pants always looked a little better than the "pinks" - a little more of a brown shade to them and of a slightly finer quality fabric (100% English-made wool pants vs the American-made military "elastique," I suppose?). Anyway, if Peter Botright & Wested are going to be assuming the production of the Indy pants & shirt - and the quality for them will be as high as it was for my jacket - then I suppose my decision as to which to get has already been made. Definitely with Peter & Wested!
Has Peter yet indicated when he will be accepting orders for the wool pants (I did read the posting, but I don't remember the answer)?
I was trying to order the Alden Indy boots tonight on the web but, for some inexplicable reason the website wouldn't open the next page after I clicked on the "add to cart" button. Do you suppose it was just a problem with the server? I am going to try again tomorrow...
Anyway, I have the Wested jacket and the Akubra Federation hat, will (hopefully) be purchasing the Alden boots tomorrow and, as soon as Peter is up & running with his pants & shirts, I will be purchasing the pants and shirt from him.
That will probably be the extent of my Indy gear purchases, as the gun & whip really don't have any place in a modern-day search for an ancient city (although I do have a "concealed" knife I will wear in the small of my back, and a "concealed" set of three throwing knives I will wear on my forearm - just for protection). The world is a different place after 9/11/01. I was in Morocco in August of 2000, and while I was there a colleague - who was in the country at the same time - was abducted at knifepoint and had his rental car & all of his professional underwater photographic equipment stolen. Luckily, they stopped after a while, pushed him out of the car, and he was released unharmed. I'm not taking any chances (ounce of prevention & all that), but I pray to god that I never need to pull them from their sheathes.
I have read a lot on this website about how to "distress" the jacket & other pieces of the outfit, but I have decided that simple wear & tear will bring my jacket to the desired level of "distressment" (I work as a Remodel Coordinator for the Sears Construction Division). I bought the jacket to wear, not to hang in a closet, know what I mean? Same will go for the boots, I suppose. I want to have everything "broken in" by the time I go back to Morocco in October of this year.
Warm Regards,
Erick

Erick,
Thanks for the kind words.
I have had a great deal of success getting Aldens through ShoeCentral.
www.shoecentral.com
They can't list Aldens but they stock them. Free shipping and no tax.
Usually the price is $10-15 cheaper than list. I just purchased my latest pair of dress Aldens. I have ordered 3 times, they arrive approx 1 week from order date and they come in a factory sealed box.
Just my experience.

Cuyahoga Boru,
I was raised in Heath, Ohio (about 40 miles east of Columbus). I have an apartment in Columbus, Ohio and have lived there for about 13 years, however, I rarely ever see it. Due to the nature of my work I am constantly traveling. We (my girlfriend and I) have been working in the Cleveland area remodeling Sears stores for the past year (she also works for Sears 824C) and will continue to do so for at least the next year. Due to the length of time involved, Sears has rented us an apartment in North Olmsted all of last year and this year (also because it was actually cheaper than getting us both our own hotel rooms - we would probably kill each other if we had to work together all day and then go back to the same, small, hotel room together at night). We will be remodeling the Elyria store starting in March/April, however, until then, we are helping out at the store remodels in Sharon, PA and in New Castle, PA. While we are there Sears is putting us up in a hotel room 3 nights a week. We take turns driving home to Columbus to pick up mail and the such, so I get back there about every other weekend or so. Otherwise, I stay in the Cleveland area over the weekends.
So...I actually live in three places right now - Columbus, Cleveland, and Sharon/New Castle PA!
I hope that wasn't too confusing!
Warm Regards,
Erick
