Whips....why'd it have to be whips!

Post by SHoWhips »

I was doing some browsing this morning and came across this article. I thought it would be a fun read for you all, especially the responses.

I can see their point as it was happening every night. I just wonder what the other locals thought of it.

Hi thanks for the link!it was very funny story and interesting as well, because even as a swiss person myself ,before reading this post ,i had no idea too about whipcracking practice in switzerland, and i think most of the peoples ignore it too.Apparently it is more on a specific region in switzerland that they do that as part of a fest in november.I did some research and find some interesting resultst,i want to share it with you as i can maybe interest some of you...

This website ,that is also in english explain that tradition and what they're doing during this fest .If you click on instruments you can also have a look at the whip they're using, they call it sheep whip, apparently it's a very simple whip but they say it's very heavy.

And these two following links are two pages where they explain it very well from where does it come, why they do this, from what is is made,etc...
unfortunatly these two pages are in german ,but maybe you can use the google translator and it may come a good translation...otherwise there is still pictures you can look at ;)

Scott, I apologize first, because I can't read what this post was intended for (blogs are blocked at work) . But I just saw what Sylvia posted and found amazing! Those rope whips are very interesting indeed! Mexican whips are made in a similar fashion, and they are used for herding sheep too. Thanks for sharing Syl!!!

(I promise I'll read the post at blogspot)

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Aldo.
