Imported Or USA Made?

Post by Indyzane »

US Wings Original Pattern Indy-style "Legend" Jackets what the difference between the two? Same Quality? Same leather? Just curious if anyone has talked to Wings about this. I really don't want to bug them with this question so I'm hoping someone can help.

Both are quality, but personally I'd ask for a US made jacket. Of the two, I just lean more toward the quality of those Schott union made jackets over the overseas stock.

Same materials, just assembled at different plants. There have been a few questionable jackets from the overseas factory lately, so be advised there seems to be something different in those items, but the Schott jackets are rock solid investments.

So Schott's the reason the USA is $200 more? Makes sense but $200 is make or break for some of us.

I wonder if the US made jacket will have a higher resale value if offered at a later time.
Of the jackets I currently own and have owned in the past, my U.S. made Schott's generated far more interest and spontaneous compliments, and brought far more money when I sold them, than any of my "elsewhere" jackets.
I've commented in other threads that quality can come from anywhere, and the imported jackets in my closet were and are well-made, of good materials, with excellent workmanship.
However, I do think that potential buyers PERCEIVE a U.S. made jacket differently, as somehow special.
If this is true, it may be that, in the long run, the U.S. made garment will cost LESS to own.

Perception is everything, no matter what the 'truth' of the matter may be. That's true in just about any product we deal with on a daily basis, if you think about it.

Good points.

I have to agree with _ here.. but I just thought up another thing in regards to the Imported vs US issue....

I get the feeling that the jacket Weston received was imported, and it looks really darn good. On the other hand, we saw, and are still seeing, a LOT of variation on the hero jackets. Some with practically no gap in the back while others have a noticeable gap, some with pocket placement really far from the middle of the jacket, different fits from one jacket to the next. I wonder if the imported legends may have similar issues?

Bear in mind, other than the overseas 'hero' jackets, we haven't SEEN any U. S. made jackets of this run yet. They're currently in production. That order didn't go in until early this week. That said, the only items floating around I've heard of that are the of the 'Legend' series have been prototypes.

I was just paging through my e-mail to see if Sarge specified whether my jacket was made in the US or overseas, and I couldn't find it. If I said this one was made in the US and am in error, I apologize for that. I'll have a Schott made jacket to compare it to very soon. I know I've been promising reviews, pictures, comparisons, measurements, molecular analyisis, and scratch-and-sniff tests, but I just haven't had the time. Hopefully this weekend.

I have people I know offering to buy my Perfecto. Never get asked about my other jackets. Oddly enough, a friend gave me the Perfecto!

Question: Is the US Wings goat (Signature series) one of the Schott-made jackets?

Hmmm, I'll say probably. A couple years ago I ordered a Black Goat Indy, it was shipped directly from NY and was in a Schott labeled box. It sure made me feel good to see that name on the box!

Thanks, Bemo. I have never owned a Wings goat but have seen them in person. One feature I really liked (but many do not because it is S.A.) is the leather facings on the inside. They really help to protect the lining and the zipper area for folks whose jackets get serious use (and abuse). I'm seriously contemplating the Wings signature goat. Cheers - Feng

If the imported ones have issues, then I'll have to nix the US wings from my list, and go with wested. $600 is too much for a jacket, I don't care where it's made. And I am all about America. In fact, America not paying me enough is why $600 is too much for a jacket.
