UDATE: Wings Striated Lamb—now with BISON SAMPLE

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb
As far as the buckle goes, it's the brass that people don't like. Screen accuracy aside, I believe that most people don’t want brass zippers on their Indy jackets for aesthetic reasons. Yeah, I know that D-rings are brass, but they don’t show off as much as a thick buckle. I prefer the rectangular sliders that G&B uses the most. The iodized buckle that TN used on his Raider was great too. Your eye wasn’t drawn to it, which is what people want. These are observations, screen accuracy aside.
Bison is thick sturdy leather. I had a vest made out of it. It makes for a good jacket, though I’m not sure about how well it will work in an Indiana Jones pattern and it definitely is not something a “fan” would want for their Indy jacket. It is an offering for their regular market.

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb
As I just 'told' Tennessee Smith, it's been an interesting 'exercise' scrolling through 67 pages of jacket threads looking for examples of collar stands, only to find they're all OVER the map.
Most are about half the width of the storm flap, as you see on the G&B, but I found a few that were the same width AS the storm flap, as seen on the Wings jackets, and they weren't Wings. They were Wested jackets, example below.
So, once again we have a point that, though not a true 'standard', there seems to be enough examples scattered throughout the site that support a wide collar stand. Not that it's right, but at least they've been out there for a while, and by vendors like Wested.
Weird. That's something I never paid a whole lot of attention to all these years.
Regards! Michaelson

My friend, should the day ever come I STOP looking at things with 'fresh eyes', that's the day I need to be shown the door.

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb
Now let's examine hanger types... note the difference between the USW and TN LC/CS "loop" style and the G&B and TN Raiders "strap" style (as is typical for vintage A-2s). Which is "screen accurate"?

Good to know, thanks. I think the narrow collar stand is clearly more "screen accurate" (if that phrase has any meaning anymore ).Indiana Holt wrote:the A-2.that_dog wrote:Which collar stand, Holt? The USW or the A-2 I posted?

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb
Yes, In my opinion the narrow stand is SA. at least towards the ''well of souls/flying wing'' jacket. which I believe is the wested. the Imam jacket has a taller Collarstand.

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb
I agree there Holt. I see a taller collar stand on the Imam's jacket, and that is the jacket this most strongly resembles.
Here's a quick comparison to my Wested.
The Wings collarstand measures 1 3/8. The Wested is 1 1/4.

What amazes me is that we're talking about 1/8 of an inch.
... OK, no it doesn't

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb
On Weston's jackets, yes, maybe 1/8" difference. On other jackets the difference is much greater. Compare some of the USW shots to the G&B and TN jackets. Some of the USW stands are two to three times as wide!
Edited to add: I just checked my TN Raiders... the collar stand is approx. 3/4" of an inch wide.

I didn't ask them to directly measure a jacket, but I did send an e-mail regarding sizing issues and asked if there was a spec chart. I got a response from Sarge, and I think they're going to send me that same form from before....binkmeisterRick wrote:Call and ask them to directly measure a jacket, if they'll do it. Thanks Tennessee!
Here's another comparison. Wiing Signature Series Adventurer, compared to Todd's Standard.
The Todd's measures 1", the Wing's 1 1/16"
This thread is supposed to be about the Wings Raider jacket in striated lamb, not a referendum on all Wings collar stand sizes. They do have some big ones, I'll grant you, but show me one 1 1/2" to over 2", and I'll eat it. I'll even ask for seconds!

I agree. I don't think it's appears at all drastic. In fact, I think the jacket is gorgeous and can't wait to see more shots of it.
But alas, like so much of this hobby, beauty is in the eye of the beholder (heck...I'm not even overly disturbed about the zipper side...)

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb
That's the problem. Both times I ordered jackets from them, I gave them my sizing concerns in great detail and listened to their recommendations, and I always ended up with a jacket that didn't fit me right. It's more frustrating than sneezing snot all over your fingers with no tissue in sight. The first time (during their clearance sale a few years ago) they wanted to give me a large, but I ordered a medium, which turned out to be absolutely enormous on me. I exchanged it for a small (against their recommendation) and it was STILL considerably too big. They were out of the Indy clearance jackets in anything smaller at that point, so I opted for the G-2 and went through a hassle just to have them physically measure an extra-small G-2 they had on hand. When those measurements looked good to me, I had them send me that very jacket. At that point, they were just as frustrated with my hope of getting a jacket that fit that they refused to allow any more exchanges after that. Needless to say, I got the G-2 and it's a nice jacket, but even though it's labeled extra-small it still fits me like a large. And I wear a size 40 regular!Kentucky Blues wrote:I didn't ask them to directly measure a jacket, but I did send an e-mail regarding sizing issues and asked if there was a spec chart. With the hero cow I initially ordered, I was hoping the fit issues were a thing of the past. When I placed my order with Sarge, I talked with him extensively about the sizing of this jacket and reminded him of my prior experience. He agreed the small would be the way for me to go, but when I received it, the shoulders were perfect, but the sleeves and body were long, and I couldn't zip it up! It was an odd fit. When I talked to him about an exchange and asked specific questions about the medium, it became apparent to me that the medium would present a different host of fitting problems for me. And again, I wear a 40 regular with no problem. After returning the hero cow, I had planned to put the money towards the "Cooper" jacket, especially when there was mention of making these jackets in number sizes. (Finally, I thought!) But when it went back to letter sizing, I opted for a refund.
I'm jealous of you folks who can wear their off-the-rack sizes, because they look good on you. But for those of us who are not a "catalog model" fit, we're always challenged to get something other than a custom fit jacket. So THAT'S why I say you should ask for direct measurements off a Wings jacket if you are unsure of the sizing. It may be the only way to know what you're getting ahead of time. That's assuming they'll give them to you.
Re: US Wings Striated Lamb
I have to say that is the one thing that still has me scratching my head. The whole USW sizing issue. I have had a bad experience in the past with this and I swore them off for a long time but then with this new offering and my limited funds. Well, I thought I would give it a shot. I hope i'm not wrong for it though.
Re: US Wings Striated Lamb
Myke asked me to post the following sample of the bison. Looks nice texture-wise, IMO.
Also attached here is the swatch of leather of the American Bison Leather. We are going to make it into an Indy Jacket and an A2 also. It is stronger than Cowhide and horsehide and so far the softest leather I have felt. It may be my new favorite.

That does look pretty cool. A very different but still Indy-esque texture.

Only discovered TODAY that bison is being offered. If anything would make me want to trade in my cowhide VIP, it would be bison.

I love the texture and Im 100% it is the best of the best leather... but it is alittle too light for a Raiders jacket IMO

it seems to have a similar tone to the antique cow. and that darkened up quite a bit for me. perhaps it would darken up as well.
not sure where I am with making a purchase anymore, but this is my leading candidate.

I think its the flash in the picture. makes everything looks lighter.
Im absolutely digging that grain!!
Hope it would darken up over time if it is a lighter skin.

I know what your saying Holt. But if you look at the business card, it's pretty washed out so I'm assuming the flash has done that. So, the color is probably darker that what's shown. Hopefully we'll get a better pic here shortly to give us a better representation of the true color.

Now, I have to say this Bison has my attention....
Curse those danged elvish looking sliders
No....Must....Resist...the Temptation!!!!
Oh...and I don't think you have to be an "old timer" to have the mechanical watch in a digital world attitude, Gringo! I may drive a Jetta on MOST days, but my favorite is still my old 84 CJ...something that, if I REALLY HAD TO, I could fix it myself....replaced the alternator on her just a few weeks ago, as a matter of fact...and the carb needs tuning, now that I think about it.
But, if I WERE going to get one of these...and I'm not saying I am....my choice would actually BE the bison...and I'd be wearin' it at Ted's with ya, TS...downing that burger with an ice cold Terrapin Belgian Style Imperial Stout!
Man....I gotta get another Becks...

Re: UDATE: Wings Striated Lamb—now with BISON SAMPLE
I love the texture of Bison leather and think it would make for a great looking Indy jacket.
However, I agree with Holt, that sample does look a little too light in color. (I don't think it was just the camera flash as it didn't wash out the color of the jacket behind it.)
