Which US Wings?

Post by feathers73 »

With so many US Wings models how do I decide which model to get? The hero cow seems interesting. Also I'm a big guy, 6'2" and 260 lbs. They recommended staying with 2XL but i have one of the older imports in 2XL and it's snug on me. Any suggestions from you big guys? Thanks

Nobody can answer which jacket would be best for you. Everyone has a different opinion on that (which is why there are several jackets offered!). If you're looking for a LC style jacket that looks like Indy just took it off and handed it to you, the Antique Hero is the way to go.

However, if you are trying to figure out what size to get, that's easy. Just call or email Myke at US Wings and ask him what size you should order. That's what I did and it worked out great for me.

Members are pretty high on their vintage, distressed cow. That's one option.

(there's a joke in there I just know it.)

Maboot is right. It all comes down to personal preference.

I have 2 of their jackets the Hero in Antique cow hide and the USW CE that has a thicker cow hide.
For the weather we get here in Tennessee I enjoy a lighter jacket and the Hero is perfect for that. The CE on the other hand is so think I can really only enjoy it about a month out of the year.

Here's the number for US Wings 1-800-650-0659, and as Maboot said ask for Myke and tell him you're form COW. They'll take care of you.

_ wrote:With respect to sizing, you're in a tough place. I'm 6'2" and 275. A 3X is like a dress on me. I cannot get my arms/chest/shoulders into a 2X - and it's still kinda a dress on me. We live in that same world of the hassle of buying clothes - or cars or seats on an airplane. The world is not sized for us.

I'm leaning towards Magnoli as THE jacket vendor for custom sizing. Having received my X-Men Origin's Wolverine jacket from him on Tuesday and having spent yesterday doing what I do to all new jackets (artistic application of acetone followed by a two-hour run through the wash and a combination of limited heat in the dryer (20 minutes) air drying and then wearing it for the last 5% of the drying process) I'm more impressed with this jacket than my Tony Nowak as far as Magnoli sizing a leather jacket for a genetic freak like me.

Pics will be coming over the next week.

So you think an expedition would be a better fit? I wear a 50L in a sports jacket. I have a GB A2 in 48L and it gives me a good military fit. I want a littlemore room with my Indy Jacket so perhaps an expedition in a size 50 work outbetter?

But to the point? We're in the custom jacket range, you and I. Off the shelf is gonna have compromises regardless. An Expedition will be more flattering. USW jackets are sized - as the Flight Jacket Nuts say - like Mall jackets. They are oversized and blousy. Some of these recent special editions have been better, but it is still their MO...

Give Dave Marshall a call at G&B.

He can help you on the Expedition question.

I agree that G&B sizing is more exacting, as they go by number sizes. I'm shorter and lighter than you, but I wear a 50R. To be exact, I'm a 49R, but I dare ou to find that anywhere. I can crall into a 48R G&B quite comfortably, provided I do not plan on thick shirts or layering. A 50R would likely be perfect for an extra layer or a nice, thick, winter shirt. I just don't know if G&B does longs.

As for US Wings, I see no reason a 2X wouldn't fit you, unless you have arms like _. I find the arms a bit long for me, and the bodies tend to have some extra length. So, I think their advice is about right. Don't go by the imports, for sure. And even their older jackets are not the same. They claim they never changed the sizing, but I have older goatskin that fits differently than anything they are putting out now.

In the end, though, for the ultimate fit, a custom Magnoli would be the best for a bigger bloke. To this day, I've never found a better fit.

Yes, they do. I have a 44L (or T in their jargon) hanging in my closet as we 'speak'.

I was 6'2" and 270lbs for a while and the 2XL Long fit me great with plenty of room for layering and movement. I'm actually selling both of my 2XL Longs if you're interested in something a little cheaper than a new USW. Both of them are cowhide and no snaps.

For what it's worth, I'm the exact same height and weight and the hero cow in 2XL fits me perfectly. Image
