The CE is the jacket for me!
I'll make this short. After months and months of research, questions, second guessing, etc., I bought the US Wings CE. That was a year ago. Out of the box it fit perfect. One year of use and a coat of Pecard's later...It fit better and I absolutely love it. It's the only Indy jacket I need...for now.
Anyway, I had my better half take some pics the last time we were out and about (After all, a thread is worthless w/o pics!).
BTW, I'm obviously not an SA kind of guy. I like to say I'm Indy-influenced. I prefer to take my own spin on the gear. It's an old DP Outback hat, Royal Robins shirt, random cargo pants, and Wolverine 1000 mile boots.

Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
I'm with you man. It's the general look which appeals not the EXACT immitation.
Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
I agree that the CE is a fantastic jacket. It was my first Indy jacket and I still regret letting it go. The only reason I did was that I was getting a Nowak CS and I thought they were too close to keep both.
But now I think that's just crazy talk!
You've done a great job tying everything together and having the "inspired by" mojo going rather than an identical copy.

Very nice looking jacket. What is the CE, if you don't mind me asking? Also, how are the armholes cut? That may sound strange, but I just got a Wested 44 R and I'm going to have to sell it. The armholes are so small it digs into my underarms. I'm looking at a US Wings b/c of the introductory price on some of their new jackets and just don't want to screw up again.
Again, great looking jacket.

rick decard- was your wested an 'off the rack' ? these are cut tighter round the armholes and chest a custom wested is a looser fit . you wont have this problem with a us wings either .i too have the 'ce' and it is a great , comfortable jacket .
Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
But what he needs to know is whether or not these arm-holes are big enough for somebody who works outdonovan wrote:rick decard- was your wested an 'off the rack' ? these are cut tighter round the armholes and chest a custom wested is a looser fit . you wont have this problem with a us wings either .i too have the 'ce' and it is a great , comfortable jacket .

Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
Like Geert said, I was wondering whether the arm holes were high and tight like a Wested OTR or cut more like a modern jacket. The rest of the jacket fits nicely, esp. through the shoulders and chest. Unfortunately it practically cuts into me under the arms whenever I move my arms upwards. Heck, the arm holes are smaller than on one of my suit coats!!! And my suit coats are fairly standard.
Oh well, chest, body shoulders, good fit. Arms...
Anyway, thanks for responding. I think by some threads I found that it sounds like the US Wings have a bigger, modern arm hole size.
Now back to the CE that DLJ bought. That's a great looking, COMFORTABLE looking (cough, cough) jacket.
Again, congrats!

Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
I don't recall any kind of "pinching" problems or the like with my CE. It has a fairly generous cut.

Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
Many thanks for the compliments guys. Rick, I'm 99% sure you won't have any of the armhole problems with a USW jacket. It has just the right amount of room and is very comfortable without being too big (although I wouldn't consider mine an objective opinion ). Crismans is right, it is a fairly generous cut...

Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
Dude, that is my hat as well, and I love it to death. My hat band disintegrated long ago, though. After searching far and wide for a replacement I liked, I finally fashioned my own ribbon and bow, so it's a bit more Indy-like than the original, but certainly nobody here would accuse it of being a screen-accurate fedora.
That DP outback is just such a great hat you can do anything you want to, and it just keeps going. It's been on many an adventure with me, and will go on many more I'm sure.
Jacket looks terrific, you wear the whole look very well. I'm all about the "Indy-inspired" with your own take on it.

Thanks. You're right, it is a great hat. It looks great and it's very durable/functional. It doesn't cost much either which means I'm not afraid to get it dirty, beat it up, etc.

Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
Sorry to dredge this one up, but I'd like some opinions. I love my CE, and as I've written, this was the one jacket for me. But now, with Sarge's impending Raiders jacket...I have to get one. I'm on the list for a calfskin, but the striated lamb looks beautiful. I think PSBIndy is onto something. COW brothers/sisters, you've never steered me wrong - take a look at the original pics and tell me: calfskin or striated lamb? My jacket future is in your hands.
BTW, if you PM me, don't call me maam, I'm a dude. I don't know how you could get confused...

Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
Great looking jacket indeed...
I agree about the general looking. I like the hat and jacket to be SA (also i own an original mk vII bag). But apart from that, I do my own style.
I have some indy styled khaki double pocket shirts (or in other colours), prefer the timberland boots and cargo pants. many times i only wear a t-shirt under my jacket and that's all.
regards

Just saw your pictures up on the U.S. Wings "featured jacket" section which is the CE SS Indy-style Vintage Adventurer Jacket.
We have another COW member "celebrity" amongst us.

Well, not only do you have to choose between Calf and Lamb, but he is also offering antique cow. and coming from someone who is holding one of those in his hands, the Antique Cow is the absolute best looking leather i have seen on an Indy Jacket. Personally I am looking forward to the S. Lamb.

Wait a tick, the Raiders is offered in the Antique Cow?!? How did I miss that? That makes the decision all the harder...sharkboy wrote:Well, not only do you have to choose between Calf and Lamb, but he is also offering antique cow. and coming from someone who is holding one of those in his hands, the Antique Cow is the absolute best looking leather i have seen on an Indy Jacket. If you look at the U.S. Wings website, you'll see that for the U.S. Wings-Neil Cooper 30th Anniversary Original Pattern Raiders-style jacket, they are offering the jacket in the antique cowhide, calfskin, striated lamb, and horsehide.
Hope this helps. Or adds even more difficulty to the decision.

Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
Yep, that would be a tough one! I have the Hero in antique cowhide (naked cow) and it is an amazing leather. I went for the Raider in calf because I want the original pattern in the original hide. I may be wrong, but isn't the jacket Sarge is wearing the Raider jacket in antique cowhide? Can't go wrong any way you choose. Good luck with your decision!Dragonlady Jones wrote:Wait a tick, the Raiders is offered in the Antique Cow?!? How did I miss that? Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
Thanks Weston. I've tried to deduce the differences in bovine leathers from all the different threads, but it made my head hurt. So, can someone answer this: does Naked Cow = Antique Cow = Aged Cow? Are they all the same? Thanks in advance!

Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
Well...yes....and no.
Antique and aged I believe are pretty much the same, but naked cowhide is a different type finish, with the oil being hand rubbed into the leather rather than machine rubbed.
I've had all three versions pass through my hands over the years, and have to say the naked cowhide is definitely a different leather indeed.

But weren't the naked cows referred to as antique? Or did the naked cows that recently came out just happen to have an antique finish?

Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
Thanks for the help fellas. Well, I'm looking for a lighter jacket and a darker color, so I think I'm sticking with the calfskin. Oh, and it's the original hide to boot. Can't wait. I think I see a trend developing. As last Summer came to a close, I decided on a new set of leather threads and Boom!!!...new jacket. Now September is nearing and Boom!!!...order form shows up in my inbox today. Another reason to love the Fall.
Re: The CE is the jacket for me!
Our Calkskin is a dark Brown! Our Naked Cow and Aged Cow is dark brown But with aged spots in the Leather... No two leathers are 100 % the same.. I am sorry about being vague But as I have said all along we do not want this jacket copied before it has been released.Dragonlady Jones wrote:Thanks for the help fellas.
