Re: raiders vs. crusade?
What is YOUR criteria regarding 'looks best'? You're the one who's trying to make a decision, and in this case, you're going to have a plethora of opinions going both ways.
Which one do YOU prefer, and why?
What are YOUR stumbling blocks keeping you from coming to your own decision?

Re: raiders vs. crusade?
basically, fitted vs. somewhat relaxed...? Which do you like best? Other consideration might be type of skin? If you like the dark, lambskin type leather jacket that is for the most part, fitted, consider the Raiders jacket. If you like a somewhat heavier, cowhide, naked skin type leather, relaxed fit, consider a LC...? Just a few ideas to hopefully get the ball rolling.

Re: raiders vs. crusade?
Temple of Doom
All are good ,but for some reason the Raiders jacket has been the hardest for vendors to replicate (at a price most fans are willing to pay) so far.
Hand on heart I'd go with the Raiders. Best film, best jacket .
But saying that for a everyday jacket the Crusade may well be better as its cut more like a "normal" jacket, plus it has snaps

If you do go there. Phone beforehand to make sure that Peter is there. He spends a lot of time out of the office at suppliers and on deliveries.
Oh, and look for the Union Jack label in the jackets. If it isn't there, chances are it's a imported OTR. Nothing wrong with that but just so you know as they are all mixed in together.

Have you really made up your mind about the jacket you want, 20 minutes after initial post and a few responses later?!
I would take some time to visit every vendors website, Nowak,Todd's, G&B, Wings, Magnoli, Wested, if I missed someone it wasn't intentional.

I love my Wested Raiders jacket, and would recommend that one, but I have read some less than flattering reviews about Wested lately.

If you're going for an LC look, how about the US Wings latest offerings in cow and lamb? For $200, you can't go wrong.

Well, the zip for one thing JC.

...and the back panel for a second thing.
Re: raiders vs. crusade?
The answer is the Last Crusade jacket. You asked. The cut, the collar, the snaps.

Honestly, I'd say go with whichever movie you like better. Then I'd say that it wouldn't really matter since your getting a second jacket eventually.
Seriously though, Raiders is a younger look, while LC is more matured IMO. The Raiders jacket has that reckless, almost Han Solo attitude, while the Crusade is closer to the kind of jacket befitting a tenured professor. Completely subjective, but to me, Crusade screams the Indy that we've all come to know, while Raiders, despite being generally regarded as the best Indy film, shows a still-evolving character.

Re: raiders vs. crusade?
Actually the Raiders made by G&B and by Todd is pretty close. Nowak is the bomb but it costs. Wested is unable to do a good LC unless you get tough with them about specs. Magnoli do a good LC, based on some actual measurements.Indiana Dymond wrote:Temple of Doom

It's personal taste. But the films don't come into it for me. I love Raiders as a movie and I hate Last Crusade. I prefer the LC jacket. I prefer the look of the firmer leather and those great pockets. The distressing I don't like. But I respond to the design not the costuming fake wear. But all I want is a jacket like Indy's, not Indy's actual jacket...

Oh well, I guess if you're an SA stickler From my understanding the USW jackets are still an LC look. And still for $200, you can't go wrong.Kt Templar wrote:Well, the zip for one thing JC.

...and for what it's worth Wings has the best customer service around theses days. So if there is an issue they will take care of you.JC1972 wrote:Oh well, I guess if you're an SA stickler From my understanding the USW jackets are still an LC look. That said, there are many vendor's out there. It pays to do the research before you commit to buy, on all of them.

Re: raiders vs. crusade?
Granted the wings deal is a good one, but if you also look at the OP's sizing needs in the other thread the wings won't work for him no matter if he is going w/ the LC look or not. The sleeves would be too short and the body too long.
The quality and service at wings may be good, but if the jacket doesn't fit neither does the good deal.
If he is looking for the best deal and correct length fit and decides to go for a Raiders then maybe ToddsCostumes' jacket is the best route... but if the LC jacket is his choice then Wested + their reasonable custom fit price may be the way to go.

Best to stay on the safe side and get one of each from all the vendors

For Raiders jackets I am only missing the Gibson and Barnes... so close, and yet so far.nicktheguy wrote:Best to stay on the safe side and get one of each from all the vendors

They pop up in the classified section quite often at VERY reasonable prices! Definitely add at least one of these to your stable!jnicktem wrote:For Raiders jackets I am only missing the Gibson and Barnes... so close, and yet so far.nicktheguy wrote:Best to stay on the safe side and get one of each from all the vendors

Re: raiders vs. crusade?
I own a G&B goat on Michaelson's recommendation and it is a beautifully made coat and holds up unbelievably well. I bought mine second hand from another COW member who had worn it all over the world (including Machu Pichu in Peru) and the thing looks brand new. Really. Goat is a great leather (unless you want the worn in look). You really cannot go wrong with his advice.

Re: raiders vs. crusade?
I own a Raiders Wested. I got it from Peter at his shop, no custom made, just tried on some jackets and got the one that best fitted me. I prefer the Raiders only because is the Raiders, and I wanted the jacket to age with time, no washed looking of the LC. Besides, Wested placed an internal pocket and snaps to the Raiders just like the LC. As far as I know.. at least regarding the Wested, there's no difference other than the washed look between the Raiders and LC jackets.CM wrote:Actually the Raiders made by G&B and by Todd is pretty close. But that's me...
I only have one objection regarding Wested, which is the internal satin lining... too bright and shining. In my opinion they should use something of a more faded colour material.
