Indy's LC trenchcoat

Post by Indiana Joosse »

I noticed yesterday that as he gets out of Donovan's car before taking the plane to Venice, Indy wears a brown/beige trenchcoat. I was wondering if anybody had some more (possibly behind the scenes) pictures of this coat or any other kind of information?

Thanks in advance. :TOH:

Since he switched his jacket with Elsa, would it be a mans, or a womans coat?

Didn't Burberry make the trench coat originally, for WWI? Seems period accurate, albeit a plain civilian version.

Michaelson, I think you're talking about two different scenes

Interesting that this is brought up. I was just thinking about the large black trenchcoat/overcoat he wears in the Berlin airport while incognito with Henry. :-k
Both nice coats, IMO.

I agree.

But where the coat he is wearing in Berlin is obviously part of an impromptu disguise, this one is Indy's own coat. He appears te be wearing it over the Venice suit.

I tried to do some screen grabs, but for some reason my computer is refuding to get them. A protection on the DVD perhaps?

He's also got a beige trench in Raiders, just before boarding the plane for Nepal he has a trenchcoat on one arm. They could be the same?

You can only see a bit of it in the background here in this screen cap. Sorry, it's the only one I could scare up.

Thank you DanielJones. That's the coat I mean.

You hardly get to see any more of it in the movie, but at least that is something. Now it should be clear wich coat I'm talking about.

Kredepops, it might be. That makes researching it all the more worthwhile, I think. :TOH:

Photoss, it looks like Biff's winning there... #-o

It is the basic trench coat seen in so many Bogart films.

I believe J. Peterman even sells one seasonally that is supposed to be pretty good. Although the one in LC seems to drape & move more like a cotton duster cut like trench coat. But then again that could be just my imagination. So, the basic style for the Indy/Bogart trench coat is called an English-Style trench coat. As it is getting closer to fall now you should start seeing them come on the market again for the pre season shoppers. I think you could grab one at Men's Warehouse for under 150 clams. Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Actually, there isn't much basic about the coat worn by Bogie in Casablanca. I have one that is almost just like it, but I've never really found one identical. It follows the basic "rules" of a trench coat, but there are some things about it that are just hard to match. But I'm kind of going off topic here... But you're right in that it does appear to be a "basic" trench coat Indy's wearing :)

I know what you mean KB. The yokes on the front of Bogarts are peaked, sort of an American western flare to them.

But all in all, the lines are "basic", so that anyone can recognize it for what it is. I think what Indy is wearing is the English Style trench.

Cheers!
