Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
I really like everyone's designs and it's been fun trying to come up with some ideas. One thing I hope, regardless of the eventual design, is that it is very understated and let's the jacket speak for itself. I really think less is more, and would rather see a blank tag as opposed to something that tries to convey a ton of information. that's just my feeling, and like I said, these are some awesome ideas from my fellow cow members.

Yes of course!! NOD YES!! M. and I was saving this for last!! We will make 100 Calf and 100 Striated Lamb.. Holt has already given us the order form But of course we did not tell Him what it was all about until right now....We will send out the printed standard form and make each jacket the best we can to the information we receive back.. These will be the best we can do and yet keep the price down!( We will not offer this to the general Public...) size to the public will be XS to 3X and No longs. The retail price will be more to the public.. COW will receive their discount on the 200 Jackets.Tibor wrote:If there are 100 earmarked for COW members in each leather, any chance we could get a liitle nod to COW in the label design to separate these as something special from those going to the general public?
I would hope the Fans pass these Jackets down and not be seen on E-Bay.. They will not be numbered! There will be two Labels one for the world market and one for COW members only! Both Labels will be picked by Michaelson and only he will make the call and speak for all the Fans....This is what Michaelson and I have been taking about for many years and now it is time.
Now you have the rest of the story.... History in the Makeing! BTW Day after tomorrow you will see the Striated Lamb leather on our site...FYI I love every Label I have seen...

Absolutely amazing!!!
I like many of the designs I have seen so far and the less is more approach suits me, but I want to see some good ol red, white, and blue on this label. I'll have more to add later but it has been a really long hot day. Took my son to the the Indianapolis Colts training camp today and I am spent.
PS: Bink I'll deal with you later.

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
There are a few things we are mostly agreeing on....
USW logo or USW text
"Raiders" or "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in the opening credits font
30th Anniversary ...and I would add "Ltd. Edition" all this line as opening credits font
I would also add a few tweaks....
"Neil Cooper pattern/design" either pattern or design...the logo already incorporates USW
Possibly the original release date of the movie....
"rel. 06/12/1981"
"original Hero jacket"
The USW Indy label is usually if not always, black in color, and the flag or the USW logo is at the top of the label, although it might be really cool to see a wings spread eagle holding a banner in his claw(s) that would read..."US Wings" just a tweak of the logo now in place to make it different from any other to date.

LOL. not at all mate. I like to think this is the way this thread should be worked.. Cheers for your input.Indiego Jones wrote: I borrowed some images from MARK (hope it's Ok. thanks!)
The reason is I'm not an expert on Corel, or any image's software...
Herewith a couple more as conceived by Tennessee Smith.

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
I love most of the ideas I've seen, some real creativity exhibited and I'm jealous of the talent. With that said, I really don't see the military connection. USWings has a military connection, but the Indy Jacket doesn't. Indy would have purchased the jacket off the shelf, so to speak hence my preference for a label of the same vintage. However, since there will be two patches, and it sounds like one is a dedicated COW patch (o.k., now that sounds odd...) how about we use the Indy silhouette on the COW logo but have his arm draped over the USWings emblem? Wish I could draw or had a clue in using any drawing software to illustrate.

Sgt. Hack, I do not believe that I can say "Thank you" enough to you, Neil Cooper, and U.S. Wings for what you are doing for all the "Indiana Jones" fans all over the world and especially for the "Club Obi Wan" members.
It is truly history in the making and I sincerely hope every member here is as honored and privileged as I am to witness this.
Sgt. David Hack...once again...
As for all the creative and talented members here who have submitted label designs...
Great stuff, everyone. You guys are just "killing it". And it's only "day two"

I can't stop the madness. but I like the idea of a simple message. almost like it's a logo. also wondering if you just used the " Indy " name if it could still feel Raiders with a similar typestyle as in the titles.

COW.....Its what's for dinner.....
Joking aside I too would like a simple Wings logo and not mention Raiders save for a shadow of the Ark or even the crate numbers as mentioned above. I am very impressed with all the great talent here, but would hate to have a jacket that indicated I was playing dress up...even if I sort of am
Thanks Sarge

Wow, completely awesome. I'm away for a few days and look at all the amazing stuff I missed. I love the designs everyone is working on. I like the more simple designs for the labels, and I think the full title of the film should be left out, and keep it simply as Raiders. I like the acknowledgement of the 30th Anniversary (although a touch early, but who's counting?).

I had one more idea, and then I need to give some other people a go at this thing. But was thinking maybe since we had been calling these jackets the Neil cooper, if it mite be an idea to use that as the Title and have it in a kindof Indy font.
I promise my last idea for awhile.

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
No one here should be so insecure as to worry about any random person actually getting a glimpse of their 99.9999% covered up clothing tag while the jacket is being worn, people are after all buying a jacket similar to what the Indiana Jones fictional movie character wore on screen. Any of the general public that may recognize an individual's jacket will do so because of the look of the jacket, and not because of seeing a label inside the garment. I doubt anyone will be accused of playing "dress-up" without also capping things of with a fedora of some sort.
While I am not partial to a bunch of script in a jacket, I am really drawn to the particular RAIDERS scripting and certain # in my particular TN, and that was in fact what sealed the deal for my wanting the jacket along with all the other wanted details on the outside.
This offering is supposed to be distinctive and significant, so the efforts here for a distinctive label to go along with that are a great undertaking for COW members and should not be frowned upon. There is always the regular world market jackets for those wanting more humdrum labelling should folks not want to worry too much about what others may think of them for wearing a nice leather jacket that may look like something out of a movie.
And on to the critique - totally bad@$$ KramStaar! The ARC/Wings logo is killer and very professional looking. Definitely should be on top of the heap...

Yes! KramStarr, I love that last one. I've had a version of that stirring around in my mind for that last 2 days but am without the graphics design skills nesessary to make it. What a great twist on the Wings logo, and perfect for the Raider's label. It's subtle, and anyone who knows Raiders will get it instantly.

Well, just to stick my head in the door before too many folks get excited over this one.......
Unless David says different....see that little 'R' next to the Wings logo? That means it's a registered trademark. You can't change a registered trademark. That's the reason it's 'registered' with the U. S. Government.
So, as nice as this is, and it really is nice, you've just changed the trademark.
That's probably not going to fly.

KS,
I like the idea of incorporating an "artifact" from the movie into the label that directly ties it to RAIDERS. I'd mentioned the Headpiece, as well. The Ark was the driving force behind the Raiders quest. Instead of the US crest in the middle, it might be cool to display the headpiece...?

No time to think this through right now though, so this is just a pretty basic idea.

Since these labels and jackets will be sold exclusively to COW members, might be a good time to incorporate some facet of the COW logo, or the COW challenge coin into the logo...? The coin has the whip and hat on one side with the Headpiece on the other.
The Sereph looks great with the "30th" text included. Can we work the Headpiece in...?

In truth this is not a serious proposal I was just having a bit of fun after having my brain fried with no sleep and a towering workload.
I liked the idea that maybe the cherubs would be a suitable (and topical) replacement for the aviator's wings but, we must remember that the formal logo is the U.S.Wings corporate identity and that identity has been promoted worldwide at great expense and effort on their behalf. Soo.. changing it on a whim is not only unlikely but impractical.
Cheers for the kind words guys but its back to the drawing board for everyone..

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
Nope. Neat idea again, but let's not go down that path. We exist by the good graces of George Lucas. As long as we keep an invisible existance, we're ok....but the moment we start putting the COW fingerprint on something as big as this, we're dead meat.Texan Scott wrote:Since these labels and jackets will be sold exclusively to COW members, might be a good time to incorporate some facet of the COW logo, or the COW challenge coin into the logo...? Let's just keep it on track, and keep COW logos etc. out of the equation.
We're STILL trying to live down the COW coin fiasco with LFL, so let's not come up on their radar again!

I will 2nd that ! US Wings Inc. must have the (R) next to the name... Plus we also have the TM and C on everything we write and or put in Print We have our name both ways.. U.S. Wings Inc. (R) and US Wings Inc. (R) We also have the Logo registered along with the RN 126811...Michaelson wrote:Well, just to stick my head in the door before too many folks get excited over this one.......

Can any of you run up a label design that incorporates the Hawaii mountain peak from the opening shot of Raiders? (I'm not talking about the Paramount mountain, as that would be TM infringement.)

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
The Seraph label with the "30th Anniversary" text has it, and according to M, it is do-able. Is there a way to work in the DWC 06/12/1981 text? I wonder how the seraph and "30th" would look as silver, to match the RAIDERS opening credits logo? Maybe a ribbon banner underneath RAIDERS that says, DWC 0612/1981?

No time to think this through right now though, so this is just a pretty basic idea.

Very quick and dirty...St. Dumas wrote:Can any of you run up a label design that incorporates the Hawaii mountain peak from the opening shot of Raiders? (I'm not talking about the Paramount mountain, as that would be TM infringement.)
SD
The shape is based on a photo of the peak i took last year while visiting Kauai.
In case you guys want to play around with the shape:

Again very quick, just to illustrate a rough possible way to include this.Texan Scott wrote:Is there a way to work in the DWC 06/12/1981 text? Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
I really like this art deco style reminiscent of the 30's, ties it in with the movie and time period in which the character was supposed to live and the decade we seem to like best for the character, plus the winged cherub of the Ark itself. What if we substituted the US 'crest' with "30th" the winged cherub as is, or "30th" in a larger font with "Anniversary" in a deco font with smaller letters underneath the "30th"? 'Anniversary' could be ringed around '30th' in a circle around 30.
Would we not be allright with just the text, "US Wings" with the inclusion of the "R"...?

I have to admit that I think Wings should just change their logo and be done with it…

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
That wouldn't work. For one thing, I'm not sure a name alone (such as "US Wings" without any specific logo) is enough for a registered trademark, though a trademark phrase might work. For another thing, even if a name without a logo could be trademarked, I don't see any evidence of US Wings being trademarked, just that Wings logo with US Wings underneath.
Granted, we MIGHT be able to pull of using a design of our creation along with the name US Wings separately, without the US Wings logo or any modification on it, but I don't know that Sarge wants us to exclude the trademarked logo.

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
Food for thought: why would we want to alter the US Wings brand in any way? After all, they are providing us with this opportunity—much less the jackets—so it is only fitting that the official US Wings logo be kept as is. JMO

That's a good point Bink. I like the look of the label m.s made. It leaves the Wings logo alone, and still has the seraphs. I don't think the mountain image works very well.

Well, I can see where you're coming from Bink, but I can see where others are coming from too. It's not so much the desire to change their logo, but to create something original without disregarding Wings in the process. I would like to know a couple of things, however. 1. In using the logo, does it have to be exact, ie, coloring and all? Or can a silhouette/black and white version be used? Also, is there any way we can have access to a larger version of the Logo, rather than blowing up/rasterizing/vector-izing/what-have-you the small ones we're grabbing from the site?

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
GUYS, YOU HAVE SKILLS!!!
ALL the labels are GREAT, and you use Corel and all, perfectly!
Here, I'm sweating like Col. Dietrich opening the ark...
There are facts that should (could or like to) be on the label. A small description of what that jacket is:
- This is THE original maker and design
- The original and true design
- This is the jacket waited for 30 years
- This is EXCLUSIVE
Not a "new" design, not something copied from a DVD. Not an "interpretation" of the Raiders jacket...
The word "Authentic" came to my mind...but after thinking about it...discarted it...
definition:
original
n.
1. the first and genuine form of something, from which others are derived
I start to think there's so much to put on a realy small label...
I decided to stay on black, white and greys. Simple and direct.
I imagine this on fabric, not leather.
No COW, the true US Wings logo. Raiders font + VentureRegular font.
(AGAIN, thanks MARK!)
Please, feel free to alter and modified this sketches.
Regards.-

Not trying to be Debbie Downer but every time I hear Original I think of Tony Nowak. Maybe original isn't a good idea? IMO
