Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
My editing software cannot seperate the colors of the logo from the website so I can't change it's colors but I want the "US WINGS" portion colored the same Dark Brown and the white background to blend with the rest of the tan coloring. But we keep the Gold Wings.
What do you all think?

Also, I think just Raiders nails it. watching all the interviews/behind the scences, even S.S. and G.L. just say Raiders.

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
Yeah, that's what I remember everyone calling it. It wasn't "Raiders of the Lost Ark", it was just "Raiders". Plain and simple. Spielberg even had Elliot's older brother call it that in ET!Gringo wrote:Also, I think just Raiders nails it. watching all the interviews/behind the scences, even S.S. and G.L. just say Raiders.

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
Though early in prelminary stages of the labels being created, here my two favorites so far.
From COW member "Indiego Jones"
From COW member "Tennessee Smith"
COW member "Indiego Jones" concept design is nice and simple with a to the "Berman and Nathans" label as COW member "Castor Dioscuri" suggested. COW member "Tennesse Smith" concept design incorporates the U.S. Wings logo, with the movie logo colors.
GREAT JOB, guys. And GREAT JOB to all who have submitted designs so far.
But, Sgt. Hack says the COW members have 30 days to come up with a design so everyone please keep those talented, creative juices flowing and submit your label design ideas.
And COW member and moderator "Michaelson" is definitely going to have a difficult decision to make concerning the final choice of the label design.
Exciting times for fans right now!!!!!!

TS it looks great
This might be another reason to keep it simple.
http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab35 ... 3/WWII.jpg
A real WWII A2. The tag is a simple military tag, very much like the Screen Used jacket tag, and Indy's jacket in the 30's, I believe, would have had a similar tag . With all these great ideas like TS's logo and Sarge's/Neal's expertise, this jacket is going to be fantastic. emphasis on Fan
Just my thoughts

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
So far I like Tennessee Smith's logo the best, though the nod to Berman and Nathan's isn't bad either.
Does anyone know what color the lining will be? That could go a long way to deciding which logo looks best. For example, if the lining is a dark brown, then Tennessee Smith's Raiders inspired colors might stand out too much.

Well, I've done a little tweaking to it. I'm still trying to get the Logo down to accept changes in my PC. I appreciate all the nice comments too!!!
And Rick I agree with you on the Color also. I'm going to change the pallette around some. Let me know what you guys think.

I'm impressed, folks! Keep it up...TS-that really does look good!
Although...I actually like the incorporation of the quote, "It's not the years, it's the mileage."
Or maybe..."I don't know, I'm making this up as I go."
Or...."Besides...you know what a cautious fellow I am."
Something in a quote that would capture the essence of Indy from Raiders....one good "one-liner" that would sum it all up....
Something that could just go at the bottom of the label...in script, I think...to look more like a signature...
Just an idea...
Regards!

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
Erin aka COW member "Tennessee Smith",
Very, very nice. Has a nice, simple, "clean" classic look to the label. Would love to see a mock layout with that label on the lining of a U.S. Wings Indy-style Hero Adventurer jacket.
Once again, great job.
As for COW member and moderator "Indydawg" suggested, along with other members, if the label were to have a quote from "ROTLA", personally, the quote "I don't know, I'm making this up as I go" sums it up for me the best concerning the character.

The "mileage"line would be nice at the bottom, showing to others the wear we put on the leathers. Nice Dawg!
Edit.Sorry, It was Rick Decards idea first for "Mileage" line. Dawg justs likes it also.

Here's a Black version, I'm thinking the Black could be done as a dark brown... And I do think the tag line sounds good... at the bottom, in quotes... tomorrow....

Just thinking out loud here. I agree the best line is I am making this up.... but for the less crazy as we, the mileage line may be better. We know what it means, but for others just buying a Indy jacket, it covers Sarges marketing as well. A novice can take it as just the jacket. Just thinking and havin Fun! Cheers

Sarge gave us 30 days to come up with a label, and it looks like you did it in less than 24!
There's room for plenty more ideas, but man, that looks like a winner to me!

COW member "KramStaar"...... GREAT label designs. Wow. The second and fourth ones are my favorites by far. Though, personally still prefer not having the "quotation" on the label nor inside of a jacket.
on the first label design "quotation".
The talent and creativity of the COW message board members are endless. Please everyone keep those submissions coming. Still have plenty of time left. This is great.

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
Kramstarr,
The second one seems perfect for a leather jacket. There's something about it that just screams "leather", and actually gives me a Western vibe. It would be even better with the line, "It's not the years, it's the mileage." But it's still a great looking label nonetheless.
I know some of you guys and gals don't like the line thing. But if it's that small I don't think it would be too obtrusive. Now, if it were embroidered somewhere inside the jacket in big letters...that might be a bit much.
Edit: Now I know what it is about that second label. It looks like it has been branded into the leather. There's a depth to it, kind of like a brand on a steers tuchus. (Ha! That's not in the censor's vocabulary.)

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
Cheers guys --
I agree, I prefer a leather label in a leather jacket - simply because it seems to belong there - and its traditional.
I've gone for traditional fabrics here - linen, canvas and leather.. all traditional hard-working material and two of the labels are intended to be embroidered in a similar fashion to the old Levi or Blue Bell Wrangler brands. Again, here I feel this is typically historic and typically American..
A darker embossed logo in a tan leather would be my choice.
As for the text..? personally, I prefer it without but then that's me…..

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
Very nice look on these latest ones fellas, very refined! I think you will have to leave off the "Made in the USA" part unfortunately, but that only makes for an even cleaner looking label.
And the beauty of the way the quote and size tags are oriented looks like they could be those little dangling cloth type that would be easily removed by scissors if you really didn't want the extra bits. I am in the camp of not wanting a bunch of scripting and personal stuff all over the inside of a jacket, but honestly done in this fashion the quote works very well and is very subtle.
Another thing to consider is while of those four the stamped leather style may look cool, but I would think the label should stay in the cloth type to keep from indenting or showing on the outter leather layer. With using calf and lamb especially it may be visually noticable if a leather patch is used.
This simple and elegant design direction is definitely heading the right way.

Hello all,
Thought I would throw some designs into the mix. I tried something kindof wild for the 30th anniversary. and tried to use the color palette true to the movie. I love all of the designs I am seeing from everyone.

To possibly assist all the creative and talented members out there, here is a picture of the label that is both on the Antique Cowhilde Hero Jacket and New Zealand Lightweight Antique Lambskin Hero Jacket.
Hope this may help. Really need to update my pc with the latest and greatest visual design software. Not sure if I would reach the artistic and creativity level that many of the members here have displayed but, the challenge and enjoyment in creating something special is an opportunity not to be missed by those willing and able.
Keep em' coming, everyone.

Here is another version of a Tag that is simple. I personally still like the quote in there, It is something every time you take your jacket off or on you will see and bring a smile to your face through all your endeavors . Thank you ProfessorHenryWJonesJr for the pic.
KramStaar your Tags are great as are all the tags in this thread. A lot of talented individuals here.

Must say I like Indego Jones's design the mort so far.
Plus KramStrarrs idea of any quote on a drop down label is good as it can be removed for those of us who don't want our jackets with to much "cheese" .
What we're going to need next is a poll thread so we can vote on the winner.
Maybe up by friday so we can vote on it over the weekend ,then Sarge can have our verdict for early next week.

No offense guys but that was my design I posted. I know it's a "team" effort here and kramstar I love what you did with the place but seriously? And I know there will be many better ones to come in the next month and mine will be gone the way of the Do-Do but at least ask or give me the suggestion to change it. But to completely swipe it? and everyone here, I am not trying to start a fight with anyone. I do Like what was done with my layout but I would have liked a PM before during or an acknowledgment with the posting of pictures. not two posts afterwards.

I don't own photoshop, I've worked with it a few times but the learning curve just seemed to steep for me. The computer is not my mixing medium, I prefer oils

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
Mate.. There is and was nothing intended to be underhanded about the designs. Anyone with half a brain can see your posts above mine and could easily draw the conclusion that all I did was develop an already great concept - it had nothing to do with trying to show you up in any way what so ever.Tennessee Smith wrote: I understand what your saying but you didn't write that in your original post of the pics, just your reply. That's where my contention was at. That said, I do love what you can do with photoshop or whatever software your using. You're an incredible artist and what you did was superb. Mine was done with crayons or PowerPoint and Paint

I was under the impression that this was to be a collaboration and we were all warned to check our ego's at the door at the top of this thread. Working for Lucasfilm is my job and part of any job is the process of brainstorming and this as far as I am concerned is a wonderful brainstorm session...
If I have offended you then I apologise unreservedly………...

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
Just to round off what seems like an already arrived-at resolution, TS, you did wonders with little to nothing to go on yesterday-kudos to you for sure.
For someone to take what you did and run with it to create spin-off designs...well, what is it they say about imitation being the sincerest form of flattery?
Anyway-guys, we do have 29 more days to throw stuff up.
If my opinion counts at all-here's what I like so far:
I like the simpler label designs.
I like just Raiders-not the whole movie title.
I like the Wings logo and I really, for some reason, like the black and white contrasts better-can't really put my finger on why, but I do.
I like the quotes from the movie to go, in script (cursive, like) at the bottom of the label on the label....as for what quote still captures the essence of Indy..hey, maybe I have to watch the movie to day and write them all down....for now, I still like "It's not the years, it's the mileage," and "I don't know, I'm making this up as I go." Although, "Besides....you know what a cautious fellow I am" still has a nice Indy-ring to it...I can see the scene in my mind with him tossing the pistol onto the suitcase that already has the jacket and whip loosely tossed into it....
Just a short list of what I really like out of what's been done so far. I do like the leather looking labels, but I also know what leather does in a lining over the years...it causes the lining to sag in those places...like Wested's inside pocket does with that ginormous leather bound pocket there...one of the main reasons I always got mine with a zipper on them when I found out I could...
Anyway-don't want to get off-topic, and it looks like TS and Kramstaar already resolved their "ownership" issue on the label design idea....let's work together on this folks, not turn it into a situation where someone takes something too personally and gets offended....by the same token, let's try to honor others' ideas and be constructive, not destructive.
Ok...carry on, then! Good work, all!
Regards!

Re: US Wings Raiders Jacket label ideas
Man I'm bummed I only saw this thread just now!!! Look at what I missed!
I have to say that I'm very impressed with the ideas that are being thrown around here. That leather stamped tag looks great!
However, my suggestion is that we look at the labels from PERIOD jackets (pre-1936) and develop something in that style incorporating the Raiders ideas above. That way you have a jacket that truly feels pre WWII. It would look like something Indy might have had made for himself or bought from David Hack's 1920's - 1930's equivalent.
I don't have any jackets this age, but I'm sure someone has access to those kinds of labels. Maybe Curator Rick has some old leathers kicking around the museum?

No Problem Mark, it's hard to know a person from reading a post. Thank you very much, and as i said before I truly admire your work. All that you have ever posted. I know this is supposed to be a collaboration and I understand what you mean by Ego's. I just felt blind sided, first thing this morning and I know it was some of my own doing. I appreciate your kindness in the responseKramStaar wrote: I understand what your saying but you didn't write Mate.. There is and was nothing intended to be underhanded about the designs.
