(I kid! I kid!)

With the same "jest" that Rick implied, exactly why I want to make the trip to the store for the upcoming jackets.

Ah, if only it didn't cost so much to fly...

Rick, scot2525 I'm jealous!

And yeah, Rick... all things considered, that 4 hours will be well worth it. I know if I was only that far away, I'd decide to make that trip in a second!

Cheers,

(Oh, and Sarge: Just for the record, when you wrote "We will not post a size chart of 'The Neil Coopers Raiders jacket' Nor will we post any pictures of the jacket until the Jacket in question has been released" ...I could not agree MORE with this approach! It just makes the most sense!)
You guys are doing EVERYTHING RIGHT in my opinion.

Sgt. Hack and/or COW member and moderator "Indiana Holt", I have question that I hope that could be answered maybe not now, since the project is basically in it's beginning phase, but when the information becomes available.

Concerning the hardware on the "Indiana Jones" 1,2,3, and 4 jackets, is it safe to assume the hardware being used on the jackets, the snaps, the d-rings, zippers; will be "screen accurate"? And will the zipper pull on the jackets be reversed with the pull on the left side of the jacket? :-k

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated at your earliest convenience. Thank you. :TOH: :TOH:

Sarge, seriously, I'm speechless (trust me, doesn't happen often). If your price point is any where near the current offerings, then collecting the set is a very real possibility for many of us. It's the Golden Age of Indy Gear
Okay... I get the message! How does $ 295.00 sound and shipping Free to all orders in the USA and half off for all orders outside the USA.. Calf and Striated Lamb will cost me more and you already know that I have to give Neil 50 % and with this offer to COW members will have to take care of Neil even more.. How do you like doing business with a person that puts it all on the board!! Michaelson and I was also talking about payment options for COW members only.
Now you can have another cup of coffee and I better stop before I give away the store.
By the way M I'm sending you one example of every version we make and hope you enjoy them all. Thats a promise I dont make lightly!!

First-time post, here.
Sgt. Hack,
Your pricing and announcement of this project on these boards attests to the kind of manufacturer confidence that I wish I could see more of, in this day and age. Looks like the best marriage of old-school business ethics and the internet that I’ve ever seen. You can count me in 100% for a calfskin Raiders jacket, whatever the final details and as a UK resident I find your overseas offer very generous! Looking forward to it!

Yet another interesting question for mulling over. The WESTED jacket had the left hand pull, of course, as it was English made....but did Neil Cooper use an English left hand pull on HIS jacket when he made it for Raiders?

Same question regarding the TofD jacket, or in this case 'jacket 2'. ALL those were Coopers, so did they have a left hand pull zip in the first place? They were all originally made in the U.S.

Interesting question indeed..... :-k

As to the rest, keep in mind, they're replicating the Cooper for the Raiders jacket, NOT a Wested.

the imam jacket is the cooper and it has a left hand pull...

the temple of doom jacket too has a left hand pull..

they are american made but somehow they were constructed with european style zips...

weird.. but yet very interesting...

maby they jsut changed it or maby it was just the way he did it back then since both imam jacket and the temple of doom jacket has the left hand pull...

TOD is considered jacket three in this line? Very interesting Michaelson. I hope I am reading this correctly and I believe I am.

Like I said, food for thought. It would make sense as Neil had to use what he had on hand at B&N, and maybe jacket 2 was made that way in order to keep to continuity in matching the Raiders jacket. Like I said, something to mull over.

a lot of speculation over the zipper pull. I'm sure Neil Cooper must know the answer.

Will Cooper go on the record as giving his side of the story - there's just SO much missing story now that undoes almost all of the research we accepted as the real story behind the jackets. There are 4 different jackets we can idintify - did Cooper make 2 of those? Where does Peter fit in? There are so many things that don't add up. Maybe a new thread that can make sense of it all?

I'm still confused. Someone explain, in simple terms please, why there must be ANY fan input if the original patterns are to be copied precisely?
What role will Holt and other fans play in the jackets' production?
What will they tell the original maker about his own jacket? What we think they should look like?
I can't be the only one who thinks this makes no sense.

Not to start any trouble, but are we to understand that Mr Cooper has the original patterns, or is he doing them from memory with some tweaking by Holt and the odd screen cap? Kevin, if the patterns are in his head, he will need some assistance to get it exact, that much would be obvious to me, anyway. :TOH:

Sad to say I've been waiting for this. I was hoping we could just enjoy the new jacket offerings when they come out, maybe argue about pocket-size, collar stand height, oh don't let me forget back length :P you know the usual stuff.

Unfortunately "Fortune and glory, kid. Fortune and glory" always seems to mess things up.

Well I guess I'll just roast up some Sulawesi Toarco Peaberry, and pray that folks' higher natures prevail. And if they don't, I'll at least have some really good coffee to watch the show.

Ok, well, good.
So, Neil Cooper alone will be developing the jackets? No outside fan 'help'? No 'tweaks' from those who consider themselves authorities on the subject (for some reason)?
That is good.

Can't we all just get along and wait for an awesome new jacket that is at one heck of a price and say "gosh, how great it is to be fan right now." And thank Sarge and Tony (que en gloria este) and Peter, etc. and everyone else that has ever even thought about a jacket?

Of couse I say this kind of sarcastically....

_, speaking for myself, where I see the value in this whole exercise is that the pattern should be 100% Cooper. I agree with you. I like the purity of no outside involvement. I don't know anything about any "fan input pressure groups", but on the very first post of this thread, we have:
Sgt. wrote:I and Neil Cooper will be making all four of them to spec. along with Indy Holt.. Our number one will be made out of Calf and it will be the Raiders by Neil Cooper and US Wings Inc.
Sarge
Then further down:
Sgt. wrote:Michaelson talked me into making all four Indy Jones Jackets by Neil Cooper with the help of IndyDawg and Indiana Holt... Like the Hero line.. COW members will come first.
Sarge
Michaelson wrote:In what way, YJ? Every gear item ever produced, with the exception of the Nowak CS jacket or the AB hat line, have had fan assistance since this hobby began. EVERY piece of gear.
Holt is a fan. And these are pretty clear in saying Holt (and Dawg?) will be involved with specs. Others seem to be reading the same thing and getting the same meaning. With MY professional hat on, but still speaking as a fan, I'd argue that the whole value of this project to fans hinges on evidence of Cooper's involvement in Raiders, AND his hand in these new offerings. It's a no-brainer. Sure, there's no requirement for Sarge or whoever involved to disclosed anything. They're selling jackets, full stop. However, they're not REALLY just selling jackets here are they? They're selling provenance. So those of us who have been around the block would like to see what the connections are at the production end, and then how they came to be replicated at this end in 2010. Otherwise, you're left thinking (as I was re my old Wested) "Well, if Holt needs to tweak the specs so much to make the 'original maker's patterns' look right, then what have I just paid for?" I don't see how that's unreasonable.

If you are able to Holt, could you perhaps explain what your role will be in the project? Im asking politely and out of geniune interest. An explanation may put some minds at ease, but i understand you may be unable to reveal too much at this early stage.

Sarge has stated that these jackets are to be 100%, cut and dried and stitch for stich, made to the same patterns Neil Cooper used for the movie jackets (I'm thinking Raiders and Temple here) without ANY outside influence. EVERY dealing I have had with Sarge has shown his honesty and integrity so I have absolutely no doubt that this is exactly what we will be getting (and at a price that can't be beat, let me add ;) ). In my VERY humble opinion, this is where the value and excitement in this project lies.

However, I can see where some people may have become confused on some points or at least need clarification.

I think that this would be helpful in clearing up any confusion if it's at all possible to address.

I don't know exactly what arrangements are being made nor do I have any right to. I am very pleased to be a potential recipient of such generosity by Sarge and others.

I do want to make the point though, that it would be entirely reasonable for someone to add some "tweaks" based on film review. I am sure the studio tweaked the jackets that were provided to them during production, so the jacket on screen was likely slightly different in some ways than the designer/creator produced. I would happily depend on Holt's keen eye for that tweak. That may be just me, but again, my thanks to all involved, from business acumen, to film review, to original concept and finally to Sarge's implementation.

I guess what I find so highly amusing is that just because 3 of our names have been tossed out on the table by David, folks think we're the ones 'whipping the horses' and calling the shots.

We are observers, folks. Period. Our opinions are asked for on occasion, and they're offered. It does not mean anything we offer is accepted or rejected. It's all Neil Cooper and U. S. Wings at the helm.

That's all I'M going to say about it. As has been said above, it's left the realm of the armchair hobbiest, and is now in the hands of the 'big dogs'. I'm quite amazed and honored they're even allowing those few of us to peek through the cracked door as this proceeds.

Neil Cooper has been sitting on the 'patterns' for THE raiders jacket for 30 years... and this project took until now?

There is obviously a lot more to the story. The Cooper name is of value here and not original patterns (which likely don't exist).

NC likely made the Hero jacket and I want to believe the raiders repro will be IT. I can see the need for a 'team effort' to get the jackets right: there are no blueprints to follow, just the recollections of the jacket maker 30 years later.

I can't wait to see the results!

Okay, been away from the computer or just need glasses fixed, I can not believe Sarge and company are selling the fall line at those prices. They are 80's prices. I remember a Eastman A-2 for just a little more back then. I feel like I will be picking his pocket while he is sleeping. :CR: If Sarge says it will be authentic, just let it go. Please do not bite the hand that is feeding us. I would have killed to have all these options back then. Thanks to all who are making this so. All those words just to illustrate you know nothing?

Neil got tired of the business and sold it. Speilbergs already gone on record that Neil made patterns from the WC prototype. Only an idiot or Peter Botwright would neither make or keep them. Maybe you too?
