So I've been wanting to do a little tribute to Tony's work since his passing...being in the screen seen replica jacket business I had a great admiration for the work Tony was producing. Although life so far has had first priority and I have had little to no time for the rest of the jacket world community over the past month, things are finally starting to calm down so I can devote some time elsewhere again.
I have had a Nowak and many other makers' ROLAs before but was looking for the perfect Raiders for me, so I had discussed a couple of times what I was after with Tony over the phone, but had never brought the jacket to fruition as other jacket projects of my own were taking top slot... then I ran across a jacket I thought had everything I was looking for in it from a fellow member here, so I decided to get it and put efforts towards a CS from Tony later . I have had the jacket since just before Tony's passing, this is Yojimbo's ROLA he had done early on (#74 with "Raiders" in proper script inside). The jacket, now with a minor sleeve length adjustment, is to ~HF sizing. The completion to my Raiders outfit was Yojimbo's great hat offering, as I feel that the best Raiders jacket I have ever owned needed a proper hat to match.
The pictures aren't the greatest but I hope to add more detailed shots as I set up a proper studio.
Ok... this is exactly how the Raiders jacket should look when sized correctly to the person. TheMan looks to have the same measurements as HF as the jacket fits him perfect. Its not too baggy, but its not super fitted, it fits how a leather jacket in general looks like it should fit (mind you the Raiders jacket was sized larger in the shoulders then HF's size for appearance sake according to the DNL interview that was posted before or from the Making of or something... I know I have read that.)
Man. So what you're saying, and I'm seeing... is my gear looks better on someone OTHER than ME! Seriously though Dan, now the sleeves are adjusted the jacket just nails it on you. And you got everything just right in the posed shot. Incredible!
Dan, know you're a master with the camera .....can you show some more detail shots of the jacket with more close ups of pockets ,back panel, collar, grain etc.....much appreciated
it's funny how much more accurate that jacket looks with the gear, especially the shot with the whip. YJ just gave us street wear pics before. beautiful fit for a raiders jacket........and i can't see the grain at all. looks like the photo washed out all the details.........{hold for it}.......JUST LIKE THE MOVIE JACKET
all right....i'll get in the penalty box for that. still tightening up the clutch cable connection on the harley anyways
That jacket has some grain but it is the 'less grain' 'smoother type' Tony sourced after all the 'complaints'. Hide from a different breed of sheep, not so much of the blocky/scaly grain, more of the 'puckered wet fingertip' and 'bump' grain. So not the same grain as the Hawaii jacket.
Ironically after that there was a return to calls for the more grain again, which amused Tony.
_, as you've seen the actual "George's office" jacket - could you give us an idea of how it really looks by suggesting which fan jackets look (albeit in pics) to your mind closest to what you've seen first hand?
Dan... WOW!
Those photos are some great work... and the jacket -regardless of it's true origins- looks like it was made just for you.
Really outstanding!
And _, I'm sincerely humbled to have you mention my jacket on the same list with theman's & Yojimbo's... many thanks.
_ wrote:G - Dont know who's penalty box... I agree. But I've seen the McCoy and it ain't dinohide. I may sound like Crismans, but there is a reality in between that is closer to the truth.
And now I just need to figure out why you no longer address me directly - even after askng about you x2... Nuance is not my specialty - but then that's why I do what I do for a living...
_, if you directed a question to me about my X2, i apologize for not seeing it. i will gladly answer any questions you have on my recent purchase. the leather jacket section has alot of activity so i'm usually not up to speed with everything.
I just love that last pic, Theman. The colour and texture are exactly what I'm after. I think I'll show that one to Riley and tell him that's
the jacket I want! (Or at least, one very similar!)
I also have a Type 2 Shrunken Lamb but I don't think Riley still have something of that leather left.
This was the more smoother SL batch which Tony got once.
I think theman's pics here prove once and for all that it's not just about having a great SA-looking jacket but having that perfect HF-esque physique to display it with......it makes ALL the difference in the world!
Man, thanks guys again for the kind words... I was just hoping to get up some decent gear shots to compliment Tony's wonderful work in putting such a great Raiders together.
In all fairness you don't have to have an absolute Ford physique for a great look in this jacket though... as I am sure to outweigh Mr. Ford by a good 20 lbs easily. The Indy jacket design is very accommodating to a variety of body shapes luckily... but it does help to have the right cut by the jacket maker in the first place for it to lay correct on the wearer. The fact that a replica of the original shows off very close to the original on a similar sized person goes a long way to enforcing the pedigree of what these jackets were created from... "the proof is in the pudding" as the saying goes.
