Todd's Costumes Whips ? help

Post by jayrobinson »

Hi, I am looking to buy a Todds whip, and thought this would be best place to get some help, especially from the man himself

On the website, there is an 'Indiana Jones Style Bullwhip'

http://www.toddscostumes.com/product/35 ... -Bullwhip/

and an 'http://www.toddscostumes.com/product/35 ... dget-Whip/'

the good one states it is 8 feet, which is bad for indy, as 10 is needed, and is $99, the 10 foot budget one is cheaper obviously

my problem is, I want the 10 foot one, but a good quality one, so on todds ebay shop, there is a 10 foot indy whip for $99 is this a marked up budget version, or a 10 foot good version that is not featured on the website? please help as I do not want to pay $30 extra for the budget whip!

I would just call cissy I thats her name she works for Todd and knows her stuff! I would also ask if they have the deluxe whip for sale still! It's $199.00 buy it's worth it for a "budget" whip.

This probably belongs in the bullwhip section...

But anyway, while this doesn't necessarily answer your question, 8ft isn't necessarily bad for Indiana Jones. 10 ft is what was most commonly used in the films, and it's what looks good on the belt, but 8ft is pretty nice to handle (in my experience). In fact, I'm sure I've heard in the past in one way or another that 8ft is often best when it comes to using, but 10ft is good to have on the belt for looks (suggesting that a 10ft budget whip would be a good choice for the completion of a costume). This may very well be why the budget whip is 10 ft while the higher quality whip is 8ft. Though i must also point out that both whips are ultimately intended as costume pieces, thus neither of them are intended for extended cracking.

i have gotten the 8ft whip , and when totally measured from handle tip to end of cracker its just about 11ft if you want a whip that a good cracking whip the 8fter is the way to go , but if you want to have the whip for show or costume the 10 ft (which measures up to 13ft) is what you want . :D :whip:

I too have the 8' Todd's whip and it is a good cracking whip. I've been using mine almost daily for 6 months and it is still going strong. It is made completely out of leather (however, it is quite dry from the factory and needs to be conditioned before used) with two braided bellies, two bolsters and a 12 strand overlay.
It is not the best whip out there, but, quite functional and worth the low price of $99.

The reason the 10' whip is the same price as the 8' is that it is NOT designed to be cracked.
The core is made out of molded rubber with a 12 strand leather overlay. (I recall seeing one post on this forum where a member cracked his 10 footer and the handle broke off).
It is made purely for looks.

However, as Indy Dymond pointed out, just contact Graeme at Midlandwhips (just be prepared for a bit of a wait as his whips are made to order.)
With what you will save on shipping and customs charges, you will end up getting a much better whip for probably around the same price (or less).
