Gas mask bag sewing thread?
Anyone know what the thickness, type, color, etc. of thread I use for a MK VII gas mask bag. I want to do a minor repair and want to get as close as possible.

A thread about thread! Your best bet would be to take the bag to a fabric store and see what they have that most closely resembles the thread already there. My guess is that you'd want a heavier cotton thread.

It's going to vary a bit depending on precisely what shade your bag is, but I had a reasonable match using Gutermann #520, 100% polyester, in a 33-yard spool. It's also about the exact thickness of the original thread.

Checked with the local JoAnn's and the #520 is a little too light for my bag. I did find a shade in their regular all purpose that was a perfect match, but NOT in the heavy duty. Anyone know if Gutermann's makes their regular colors in heavyduty?

you may have to go to a place that does 'tarp and awning' or upholstery work
The heaviest tread most fabric stores usually have is 'button' thread, which may be OK for your bag.

If you can find a tack store, you can find heavy waxed cotton thread, like they use for saddles and bridles. That would be my choice.
