My new U.S. Wings Antique Cowhide - Thoughts/opinions

Post by maboot38 »

Hey all.

I wanted to post some photos of my U.S. Wings Antique Cowhide.
What's the general opinion is about how it looks on me in terms of size.

Sorry about the photo quality, but I took them really quickly.
I had to use a timer on my camera......
while my 15 month old daughter was tugging at my pant legs!

Does it look right? Is it too big? Thoughts?

The length looks all right, but it looks a little baggy on you. How does it look zipped up?

I didn't get a chance to get a zipped up shot this morning. However, in the top middle shot you get a good idea of how much space there is in the front. I can try to post a zipped up shot tomorrow.

I think it fits fine.

Most people don't walk around pulling out their jackets. ;)

Good fit IMO.

I think the fit is good on it. Keep in mind, however, that I like my jackets a little more roomy so take that bias into account. But my first impression is that you've got a good fit with that one.

Heck with what WE think. How does it feel? What do YOU think? You're the one that has to be happy with it.

How is it going to be worn? If you're going to use it this winter, you'll be VERY happy with the extra for layering, as a lot (if not all) of that 'slack' will be taken up with the extra clothing underneath.

That said, YOU are the ultimate authority. At first glance, it looks a hair big, but then this is a static shot of a jacket just out of the box. Most of the length on the sleeves will disappear in the elbow after you wear it a bit...and it won't take very long.

Bottom line, what's YOUR opinion of how it feels?

I'm sure Sgt. will pop his head in and give his thoughts, as he's the master in sizing for Wings (and should be, being owner and all ;) ), but you're the one who needs to be happy with the jacket.

Yeah, I know the most important thing is how it feels, and I can answer that for myself, but I'm just asking how it looks. My thought was that it was a hair big as well, and I agree that the extra space will be nice for extra layers.

The best thing I can compare it to is my Wested lamb, which is definitely smaller, but since it is a much lighter jacket, the feel is totally different and they really don't compare that well.

My weight also fluctuates by a significant amount so at times the jacket could be large at times and perfect at others.

This is all very subjective, but I guess what I was looking for was if anyone were to say "yup, too big" or "just right".

Well said M.
I honestly think the Indy Jacket should have a little extra room due to the fact it is made for action! Now if you want that style and fashion you could go down one size But with that said all you have to do is give us a call and we will send out a UPS call tag and it won't cost you anything to exchange it... Like M. said... It really is up to you and how you feel that counts.
Regards,
Sarge

I like it. It may be a little big but not where its baggy. Rather have it a little big than a little small. A good fit!

Thanks for all the input. It is just a bit baggy around the mid section, but I'm afraid that switching to a large would sacrifice length, which I like.

So I'm 90% sure I'm sticking with this XL, though I do wish for a sudden cold spell in the weather so that I could actually get a feel for the thing!

It looks awesome on you! Looks kinda like you been wearing it for years. Judging by your comments I think you may just have buyers jitters. Many times I look at my piece of gear and think about posting a picture but its sectrectly just for acceptance from like-minded peers on a crazy hobby that my wife doesn`t understand. "Really, love? that hat looks just like all five other ones! Why do you need 6 brown hats that all look the exact same!" I think we are all wanting 'our gang' to hi-five us when we have our gear on display sometimes so that we will feel good about having spent so much.
Sorry about the rant...its just that it really is a cool looking jacket and looks very natural and comfortable on you and, like Michealson and Srg. have said- Are YOU happy with it? Does it fit the look, feel or style of jacket that YOU feel is Indiana Jones to YOU? I think you have a winner! Enjoy!

I think it looks perfect. I used to think Indy jackets should look tailored, but now believe they should look look a little oversized. Once it starts to break in, it'll hang better and appear less spacious!

If one is bphysically built the same as Mr. Ford was during that time period, then a fitted jacket might work better. But those of us who have alittle temple around the doom or just not as fit as a globe-trotting archeologist, the slightly looser fit looks better. I love the back shot of your jacket. Looks fitted to me in that pic.

If it fits nicely in the chest and shoulders, I say keep it because going down a size could make the jacket fit a bit snug in those areas. If it feels a little too big in the midsection, try tightening the side straps. That should take in some of the excess material.

All in all it looks like a good fit to me.

Your fit looks very similar to mine. I think it is fine, and the next size down would probably be too snug. Your sleeves hang a bit lower on you than for me, but yours seems to fit a bit better in the chest. Remember, these aren't custom sized jackets, so there is going to be some variation to how they fit. I think yours looks just right, but a bit loose an long in the sleeves. Also, it will conform to you body more with time.

You have the right size, or at least as right as it will be, IMO.

Boot,

It looks like the length of the jacket is perfect. Upper sleeves and torso look a bit loose. Have you sinched the straps?

I actually tightened the straps to the length I would expect to in those photos, which is a bit loose. When I pull them to where the jacket seems to fit best, something strange happens.

Picture the point from which the strap originates. Now the strap goes back toward the d-rings, then through them and back toward the front. You would expect the tip of the strap would probably come somewhere to the point from which the strap originates. However, in my case, when tightening the straps to where the waist seems like the ideal fit, the tip of the straps are over an inch past the point of origin and onto the front part of the jacket. Is it possible to visualize that from the description?

I guess that is the main thing that had me second guessing at this point.

I really appreciate all the input from everyone. Thanks for taking the time.

Good afternoon, all!

Just putting in my first post on what looks to be a GREAT forum! I'm not going to bore anyone with inane questions-I'll just poke around the site and TRY to stick to asking relevant things that haven't already been answered before....

BUT, all that said, I have to say that just from what I've seen so far, these US Wings jackets are REALLY good looking pieces of work! And at the price they're being offered at, I'm amazed everyone doesn't have at least ONE!!!

At any rate, yours looks wonderful on you-

Thanks for letting me piggy-back on your post to give my opening greeting! Wear that jacket well!

I'm looking forward to getting to know my way around and getting to know the folks here!

Hi Sarge Do you mean HF and Tom Hanks are on the US Navy's "100th Year in Navy Aviation" Board or on your G-1 commemorative jacket board?
