Re: Wearing a Fur Felt Fedora During Summer
Just got my "new" Fed in dark grey. Tore the liner out which was ALOT easier then I thought. On my way to buy a leather punch........
So far I've been wearing it in 90 degree weather and no problem, the holes should make it perfect!
Thanks Michaelson for the timeless tips!!

Re: Wearing a Fur Felt Fedora During Summer
like most people in this thread I have to agree that the felt - in this case a fed IV - actually feels more comfortable than the direct sun burning my skin. I DO however take the lining out in the summer. I find just removing the hat when I'm in the shade, to let the sweatband cool off and dry, works well for me.

Have yet to punch the holes but used it today to clamor through some forest and cut some bamboo with my gf's dad. Have to agree having the felt on was way better then the sun and the brush/bamboo and bugs all over my head.

I've found as I've gotten older, I just don't handle the heat as well as I did, say, 10 years back.
I've found I THROUGHLY enjoy my straw PB fedora and ventilated felts than I would have admitted not so many years ago.
As you say, each person has their own way of handling it....and for some, fur felt makes no difference what so ever, REGARDLESS of the heat. For others, it's a MASSIVE heat collector.
Everyone is different.
HIGH regards! Michaelson
You also said something important: the years. I also don't handle the heat in the same way as 10 years ago.
best,
tekors

Ah, a comrade in arms!
I've been wearing my PB straw for the last 2 weeks now, and loving every cool breeze I feel through the crown! Heat index of 105 isn't fun, expecially in an un-airconditioned 1950 Plymouth....no matter HOW fast you drive!
Regards! Michaelson

I've been enjoying mine M! The only problem is it's too big. I'm not sure if they made it too big or I made a mistake in measuring my head. Maybe I measured too low cause the hat sits on my ears unless I use some spacers.

My idea of a sun tan is burn, peel, repeat....
Let me tell you, I'll gladly sacrifice a slightly warmer melon than receive a second degree burn on my nose, ears, and the back of my neck!!

Over here it's like everyday is summer even during the rainy season... it's just sooooooo hot here!

Michaelson,
I have had a PB straw with the CS bash for a year . It has a 2 5/8" brim. I was wondering if you thought I would be able to get a dim cut out of it without ruining the hat?

John,
Figured as much. It more wishful thinking than anything else. I guess I'm going to have to wait for you to make one for me
