On women, yes. On men.......never. Long hair is for girls, no matter what you may have been told. ;)

The jacket looks great though!

Me, but then again, I can't even GROW hair, so that's probably just the jealousy talking.

Some photos, with some details of the leather, then measurements following below...
Image
Image

Image

Size: Medium
back length from base of collar: 27"
sleeve, from shoulder seam to end of cuff: 24.75 left, 25.5 right (I know, I measured it a few times though:) )
shoulder: 6.5"
armpit to armpit: 23.75"
pockets: 7"w x 9"t

The leather, as several others have mentioned, is super soft, feels like my old USW lamb. Fit-wise, it's longer and roomier than my 40 Wested. I wonder if a small long (when they come out) would serve me better. The armholes on the Wings feel really baggy. Not a knock on the jacket, just my build is more on the skinny side. The leather has a lot of character, as you can see in the details. You can also see a difference in color on one of the sleeves compared to the rest of the jacket. Different belly on that one, I'm sure. If I don't exchange due to size, I'll probably do it because of that.
Shipping was super fast and the communication with Sarge and Co. has been top notch. Others should learn from the man.

Just called Wings and decided to go with a size small. She stated the sleeve length is only 1/2" shorter on the smalls. I was impressed because she asked if I was the one to post the first pictures on COW yesterday and that they thought it looked big on me. They do pay attention!! I should get my UPS call tag tonight.

The jacket does look different depending on the lighting conditions. The pics I have posted are outdoors in direct sunlight without flash. I have some comparison pictures ,indoors with and without flash, of the Wings, my Wested novapelle, and Todd's standard. I will post them tonight. I will also try to get pictures of the pockets.

The pockets are alot bigger than the original jacket shown on page one of this thread.

Were they supposed to be smaller like the picture? I read thru the thread, and I can't
find anything on the pockets getting so huge. They look the same size on the large
and medium sized jackets that people are posting pictures of. Aren't they supposed to
be sized in proportion as the jackets get larger and smaller?

Just curious about this, as I wanted to order one, but to be honest, it looks exactly
like all the other Indy jackets Wings offers, with the exception of the leather. Its the
smaller pockets shown on the original that make this a winner, and uniquely different
than the regular offerings Wing normally has.

I really wanted one with smaller pockets like originally shown. If anyone gets one
with small pockets, please post a pic!!

Other than that, they look to be nice jackets.

They aren't. The collar was made to the original Cooper pattern and the body seems a bit more tailored than their standard fare, or at least it is when comparing it to my 5 year old VIP. The fit is definitely different on this one for me than any other Wings jacket I've owned to date. It just fits better. Not sure what, but there's something different.

As to the pockets, that's question I can't answer, as I don't know what size the jacket was shown on the first page. If they used the same pockets throughout the run, that first photo could be of a 3x for all we know, making the pockets look smaller. We DO know the one above is a medium, and the same pocket would look larger. Theorizing here.

I know that G&B does the same thing regarding their pockets, or did once upon a time.

The pictures of the jacket on the website and the first page here are of a med.

If you were purchasing this as a LC jacket wouldn't you want larger pockets as I seem to recall they were made bigger to accomodate the Grail Dairy.

I can see how the color difference between the right breast and the sleeve might bother you a bit. That would probably annoy me slightly. I do like variation in the leather at different points in the jacket, but I hope they aren't as stark when mine arrives.

The jacket pictured on page one of this thread is a medium.

You can see the tag inside the collar.

It does not look anything like the mediums that are being delivered. The pockets on the delivered
size mediums are HUGE compared to the original picture.

That's what I am looking for. The smaller pockets that were shown on page one.

As an aside, I have an original Cooper/Wings jacket from back in 2001. I ordered my first
Wings Indy jacket, and when it arrived, the sleeves were too long, so when I asked Wings
if they could shorten them, they directed me to the maker of the jacket, who was Neil Cooper.

I had to send the jacket to Cooper to get it altered.

When comparing the measurements of my Cooper size large, to the measurements of
the size large jackets being delivered now, they are exactly the same as mine, and my
three year old goatskin Wings Indy jacket. Not one difference.

And my Cooper jacket is by no means a fitted jacket. It has the same larger/looser fit as any
other Wings Indy jacket they sell now, when compared to measurements posted on this
site.

Perhaps the better fit is due to the leather being softer, and thus it drapes on your
body nicer?

Like I said, I have no clue. I'm comparing it to my VIP cowhide, and it's about as soft as you can get when it comes to that....but it's possible.
As an aside, I have an original Cooper/Wings jacket from back in 2001. I ordered my first

Well, there you have it folks, this new jacket has been directly compared to an original Cooper from 2001, and it's a match. It also helps confirm that Wings HAS been using Neil Coopers pattern all along, or at least since 2001, as they've claimed all these years.

Neil Cooper got out of the manufacturing of jackets in 1985, turning the keys over to David Hack and U. S. Wings in 1986. Your jacket, FLATHEAD, HAD to be one of those original old stock Cooper jackets they sold with the Wings tag we've heard so much about. The infamous 'lost' original Coopers that were sold off from dead stock, which would actually date your jacket to at least pre 1986!

Thanks for that confirmation FLATHEAD! That is VERY important information! :TOH:

I dunno...I just got my US Wings about an hour ago and I think I may be done buying Indy jackets for a while. It's a great jacket and you can tell that it'll wear like iron. This sounds extraordinarily stupid, but I've crumpled it up and dragged it around the garage floor a couple of times and it's starting to look 'lived in.'
It'd definitely bigger and looser than Todd's, but I kinda like that. I'm no 35 year old Harrison Ford...closer to the 65 year old one... so I don't mind it being a touch on the baggy side. Color and texture are great. Definitely my 'go to' jacket.

Finally, after 30 years, I own the jacket of my dreams. Perfect fit. Even the hat that came gratis fit my oversized melon perfectly.

I think I'll have to spend some time this weekend and write Sarge and Myke a heartfelt letter of appreciation.

Man, everyone's jacket looks GREAT. :TOH: I KNEW I should have opted for the upgrade in shipping. #-o Tuesday, June 22, cannot arrive soon enough. ](*,)

Just spoke to a U.S.Wings representative, besides the 8 mediums that they were short, the representative stated that they also went ahead and placed a full sized order of the U.S. Wings antique cowhide "hero" jackets WITHOUT snaps on the storm flap which should arrive in 21 days.

If this jacket is as great in person as it appears to be in the photographs, may cancel my order for U.S. Wings lightweight New Zealand Antique Lambskin Indy-style jacket and order the antique Cowhide "Hero" jacket without the snaps. Unless, the N.Z. Antique lambskin will have the style option of with or without the snaps. :-k But, then you have the vintage lamb jacket arriving this mid to late summer. Geez.

So many options..... #-o

Out of curiousity, I came home and measured my VIP pockets to the new naked cowhide pocket. They are both size large.

VIP=7" x 9"

Naked cowhide= 6 5/8" x 8 5/8"

So at least in comparison to the standard Wings jacket in large, the pockets are 3/8" smaller in both directions on this new jacket.

The VIP pocket shape is also a bit different than the NC version. It has rounder corners where the NC version, though rounded, are a bit more squared off...as is the flap. The NC is a bit more scalloped.

Subtle differences, that there just the same.

So, after reading about the longs coming out in 3-4 weeks I called up US Wings. Sarge answered and we had a very nice and long chat! It was a very pleasant way to spend an hour. During the call I changed my order from an XL to a Large Long. I figured I'd ask him a question though... Any plans for the lightweight NZ lamb in long? He said he hadn't thought about it, and would call the production team and place an order! \:D/

Way to go Sarge! That's customer service for you! Ask and ye shall receive! Oh, and I asked if the black goat was going to be on the deal of the day anytime soon (before I realized that it doesn't have a long like the brown goat) and he said, how about Monday?

Can you ask for better customer service than that? :TOH:

"John Vaughan" I also ahve pretty long hair, going to trim it up again soon though.

I called this morning, should be getting a Large from the current batch. Cant wait, these all look great.

Also surprised how longer the pockets look as well. Not a huge deal, but still its different than the main pic.

It just arrived. I only looked at it for a minute or two and tried it on, but then I had to put it in the closet because I'm trying to get my daughter to fall asleep.

I'll post some photos later and give a better description, but here is my first impression.

It is gorgeous. The leather is a perfect weight and it really is extremely soft for cow. The collar stands up well like in LC, almost more like CS. At my height of 5'10" or 5'11" and a chest size of 45, the XL seems to fit perfectly. The sleeves go to the middle of my hands when in a downward position, and my fears about the jacket being too long are unfounded.

Of course I'll ask opinions when I post photos, but my first impressions are that I think it will wear very well and age quite nicely. Unfortunately it is over 90 degrees here right now, so I don't see myself wearing it anytime soon.

My only complaint so far was that even though I specifically requested 3 times...twice in email and once over the phone to Myke, that the jacket be shipped to my work, it was still shipped to my house. That could have been disasterous! I know that mistakes happen though, and no harm done since I was here to receive it.

So it is gorgeous at first inspection, and I doubt I'll ever want to buy another Indy jacket again after this one becuase it seems to really be what I was looking for.

Got my jacket today and, owning several Wings jackets, I have to say that this is my favorite straight out of the box. The leather is very soft (like a very thick lamb) that drapes really well and most pictures haven't done the color justice (not that I could do better, mind you) although Arca's comes very close. Really nice dark brown with the subtle aging techniques that have been discussed. And it has a nice grain as well that can't be picked up in photos as well as you'd like to. The best "OTR" jacket I've owned, hand's down.

And very light. Heavier than a Todd's but lighter than a Wings CE by quite a margin. You can really use this as a 3 season jacket. I had high expectations for it and it has surpassed all of them. I'm really looking forward to a LOT of wearing and seeing how it develops. I've got a feeling it will gain even more great character as time goes on.

Just got mine, too like 10 minutes ago! It's very nice! Leather is buttery-soft and workmanship is top-notch. I'm 5'9" 180lbs with an athletic build and this jacket (large) fits me perfectly! I would say the only knock against it would be that the leather color is not uniform......the sleeves for instance, has 2 different colors....one half is chocolate and the other half is a very dark brown.....like it came from 2 different animals. For the price, however, this is one of best Indy jackets out there right now! :D

I love the varied coloring. I think it really adds personality and will look even better with age. Also, the movie jackets don't appear clean and uniform, so think of this as a shortcut to a more SA look!

Is there still a chance to get one of these? Wow, the pockets on those are much better than on the prototype. Wing did an excellent job, the leather looks great. My wallet is wanting one of these badly. Will have to call the Sarge sometime next week if I can still even get one.

Ok, quick story first. I was afraid I'd miss the UPS man today. So much so, that I didn't want to leave the house today. Kids woke up and wanted to go skating. SERIOUSLY!?!?!?! Being the outstanding father I am, I decided that getting a leather jacket in June is not quite as important as making my kids happy. What could a couple more days hurt, right? ](*,) Soooo, we go skating and when we leave the skating rink, my wife has a voice mail. Its her cousin that works for UPS, and he has been put on our house's route for the day. He saw the package, knew I would want it ASAP, and he signed for it!!!!!! And they all lived happily ever after!!!! \:D/

Ok, now on to the jacket. I have a Parthenon of Indy Gear. In it resides my Penman LC, my original MKVII, every bit of leather I have ever bought from Wade Egan, and my Azuma LC shirt. I have other gear, sure, but none of it is worthy of residing in the Parthenon...untill today. My US Wings Naked Cowhide Jacket now has a permanent place. This thing is perfect. Now, I will have to say that I am a pretty perfect OTR size. So this may not work for everyone. I am about 190 lbs and 6' tall. This jacket fits like it was tailored for me (I take a large). It is butter soft and you can tell that it will age very nicely. Its color is perfect, and it has lots of character right out of the box. It has lots of grain, some of it VERY reminiscent of TN's 747 cowhide (I know, I know, you want to see pics. They are coming... ;) ) The construction is extremely sturdy, and the hide is substantial. Its styling is perfect for an LC. AWESOME collar (nice rounded tips, you'd love it Holt! :H: ). The length is also perfect for someone of my height. The bottom of the back panel just touches the top of my back pockets. So, in short, I love this jacket!!! It very well could be my LAST Indy jacket...

Hey, guys....

On the difference in coloring that PBSIndy mentions...
ust got mine, too like 10 minutes ago! It's very nice! Leather is buttery-soft and workmanship is top-notch. I'm 5'9" 180lbs with an athletic build and this jacket (large) fits me perfectly! That differentiation is going to even out over the years. Leather, like any skin, tans even more with exposure to sunlight and as you Pecard your jacket over the years, wear it, it gets rained on, etc....all those differences ARE going to blend together!

Personally...I LOVE the look!

GLAD to hear so many satisfied people!!!

This makes me very sad to hear, Travis. I would like to think that the best place for these beautiful jackets would be on your back, not in a "Parthenon" (not sure that word has any other meaning besides a temple to Athena, but I think you mean some sort of shrine).

I have other gear, sure, but none of it is worthy of residing in the Parthenon...untill today. My US Wings Naked Cowhide Jacket now has a permanent place.

This makes me very sad to hear, Travis. I would like to think that the best place for these beautiful jackets would be on your back, not in a "Parthenon" (not sure that word has any other meaning besides a temple to Athena, but I think you mean some sort of shrine).
It's an allegory boot! :TOH: OF COURSE its gonna be on my back! All of my gear gets worn.

Crismans, this should show you the pockets.

Sorry for the confusion... but flattered to be mistaken for crismans.

And THANKS for those shots, Rick!

wow so happy there was a Large left for me, and it will be arriving on thursday, right when i get back home from visting my family in CT.

Hollowpond Thanks so much from your post, im pretty much the same size as you. To hear it fits so well is amazing. I bought another todds and started distressing the heck out of it already, since the back panel just popped out too much at back. Hearing how well all these jackets lay is something im really looking foward too.

PLEASE try to get some side shots so we I can see how that back pannel does lay on the jacket.

I agreee too the color changes are pretty awesome.

I just dropped off my med jacket at the UPS store an hour ago to be exchanged for a small. US Wings should recieve it Mon., so one of the "unlucky 8" should recieve one next week. I was in a time crunch so I didn't have time to take pictures of the pockets or take any measurements. Sorry Mitch, but I believe others have provided pocket pictures.

I do have these comparisons pics I took last night.

Wings antique "hero" on the left, Todd's standard lamb middle, Wested novapelle right.

I just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying finally seeing these shots of this jacket.
:)
It's really cool that so many of you are getting them all at once and sharing your pictures.
To those of you who have done so, Thank You (and scot, don't worry about it... as you said, I have gotten a clearer look at the pockets)
...To everyone else who've been getting their jackets but haven't posted some photos (yet) I say:
"Keep 'em Coming!"

Could you post that I would love to put a picture online with Hugh Laurie
wearing a US Wings Indy Style Jacket and or any other of our high profile
customers But.. In order to do that I would have to pay some big bucks!...
Thanks but no thanks.
Regards,
Sarge
